well, Michigan's front page, more like.
January 16th, 2011 at 8:10 PM ^
A SDSU recruit.
January 16th, 2011 at 8:10 PM ^
yeah. It's a paywalled article but I guess Hoke's going after a few of them, understandably.
January 17th, 2011 at 4:16 PM ^
Being that we lost Goudis (sp?) to Miami, I am OK with this. Hell, lets offer a few more kickers. We NEED one.
January 16th, 2011 at 8:10 PM ^
Good ACT score of 29 and had some offers from a few decent schools so I assume that this wouldnt be a bad get for the Maize and Blue
January 16th, 2011 at 8:22 PM ^
go into the Lloyd Brady seats. Hope he and his SAT score Go Blue.
January 16th, 2011 at 8:32 PM ^
Wouldn't a kickoff in the Lloyd Brady seats be out of bounds?
January 16th, 2011 at 10:41 PM ^
More like out the back corner of the endzone, so touchback and great success.
January 16th, 2011 at 8:27 PM ^
Pertinent footage starts at 2:07, unless you're a junkie for punts and kickoffs.
January 16th, 2011 at 8:28 PM ^
He gets a sack at the end of that!
January 16th, 2011 at 8:15 PM ^
Kickers always have high test scores.
January 16th, 2011 at 8:15 PM ^
It says he was the punter in the Army game. I'm hoping he plays both kicker and punter, otherwise I'm not too excited over this.
EDIT: Based off of the highlight shown above, it looks like he does in fact play both positions. It also looks like he has quite the leg.
January 16th, 2011 at 8:17 PM ^
We've got Hagerup for punts.
January 16th, 2011 at 8:19 PM ^
Always good to have a backup. You never know.
January 16th, 2011 at 8:26 PM ^
See Michigan v. OSU 2010.
January 16th, 2011 at 8:37 PM ^
Yeah, no need to have Broekhuzin punting ever again.
January 17th, 2011 at 4:17 PM ^
Please, may that NEVER happen again!
January 16th, 2011 at 9:20 PM ^
This actually brings me to an insane plan I had in the wake of the Hagerup suspension:
Provided Tate gets back into the good graces of academia and is reinstated to the team, I think he should get some practice as a punter. Then, you have him in as a punter in "pooch situations" where it could be the incredibly surprising pooch punt, but then again maybe, just maybe, hey quarterback who can run.
Is this hypercrazy? Or just regular grade crazy?
January 16th, 2011 at 10:11 PM ^
There are some interesting possibilites for fakes and pooch punts with Tate at punter but he'd have to also be a full-time QB to justify spending a scholarship on that spot. It's a tough spot that he'd be in but if he's willing to put in the work, go for it.
January 16th, 2011 at 11:06 PM ^
We should also try Denard at quarterback, just for shits and giggles.
January 16th, 2011 at 8:28 PM ^
Not too excited? Am I missing something here?
And your comment on kicker/punter? Again, What?
January 16th, 2011 at 8:12 PM ^
Good to see Hoke isn't sitting back and waiting - don't bother chasing guys who don't want to come here.
January 16th, 2011 at 8:14 PM ^
I like Hoke too, but I challenge his divinity. There is only one Jackson Browne.
January 16th, 2011 at 8:19 PM ^
thanks..hoping god is on his side
you got me...now I can't change it
January 17th, 2011 at 10:19 AM ^
those two kids on the DL for Tennessee though?... Two offers and reports of no interest
January 16th, 2011 at 8:13 PM ^
anything about this kid. Sign him. Gotta be better than what we suffered through last season.
January 16th, 2011 at 8:21 PM ^
Glad you don't believe in players ever getting better. I suppose you never thought Denard could become a functioning QB either.
Don't forget one rather huge point - you can't get better without game experience. Neither Gibbons nor Broekhuizen had enough attempts last year to truly get the opportunity to improve their game. 14 attempts in 12 games, with those split up? How in the world do we expect guys to get better if they don't get the chance to work on their craft?
I suspect that if those guys practice taking 100 kicks a day from now until September that they JUST MIGHT be better at kicking field goals. Just e-pinion.
January 16th, 2011 at 8:25 PM ^
I think I saw something along the lines of Hoke getting a coach to coach ST only. If that is the case I would imagine either Gibbons or Broekhuizen or both would improve. This guy may just be a backup or security blanket, which I really don't mind if we use a scholarship on another kicker at this point.
January 16th, 2011 at 8:30 PM ^
I completely agree, last year Hoke had a TE/ST coach, but a dedicated ST coach is fine by me. I would have no problem with having one scholarship used a year on kicking - it is SUCH an important component of the game, and teams neglect it to their detriment.
January 16th, 2011 at 8:35 PM ^
I don't believe it, in fact I hope it's true. We just didn't see much through the season last year. It's a Catch-22. The reason why they didn't get more game experience is that they didn't kick well in spite of apparently kicking very well in practice. Another kicker surely won't hurt.
January 16th, 2011 at 9:44 PM ^
How does practice or game situations explain the short and out-of-bounds kickoffs?
January 17th, 2011 at 2:34 PM ^
...that generally kickers *don't* get better. Kickers, as per college conventional wisdom, are the one position that you either have it or you don't as there's only so much you can do with them. QBs have a long track record of development.
January 16th, 2011 at 8:28 PM ^
Pretty, pretty, pretty good.
January 16th, 2011 at 8:39 PM ^
Do you know where I might purchase some schwag?
January 16th, 2011 at 8:15 PM ^
as long as he's good from 25yds+ better than nothing! Lord knows how things could have went if we could have scored some of those field goals....
January 16th, 2011 at 8:17 PM ^
Out of my former high school in San Diego. Kudos to Matt. Glad to see Francis Parker getting some talent out there.
January 16th, 2011 at 8:18 PM ^
It appears that LA DB Floyd Raven now has a Michigan offer, according to Scout.

Rivals ranks him higher:

January 16th, 2011 at 8:22 PM ^
It seems like Hoke is doing some work. We may get some recruits out of nowhere.
January 16th, 2011 at 8:22 PM ^
That's so Raven
January 16th, 2011 at 8:22 PM ^
Good size and speed and looking at the list of offers he has, we should land him rather easily. Just my opinion. :)
January 16th, 2011 at 8:34 PM ^
that we should land him easily do we really want him?
January 16th, 2011 at 10:56 PM ^
There's some good schools like Arizona and LSU but it's not a stunning list. He's what...6'2 and has good speed? I'd take him.
January 16th, 2011 at 8:27 PM ^
with Rivals and other recruiting Board access are going to have a busy next few days.
January 16th, 2011 at 8:20 PM ^
Eehxcellent.
January 16th, 2011 at 8:25 PM ^
are currently speaking to OL Chris Bryant, maybe recently ended though.
Also, Illinois OL commit Pat Flavin has been reached by Michigan, Flavin had an offer from SDSU before committing to Illinois.
Info per TomVH twitter.

someone show this to Gibbons so he has an idea of where his plant foot is supposed to go.
January 17th, 2011 at 4:01 AM ^
someone could show this clip to the coaching staff
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WOhoS1Wf-vs
so they can find a way for Gibbons to help out our beleaguered defense!
January 16th, 2011 at 8:27 PM ^
Tom Vh also reported that our new OL coach, Funk, placed a call to Pat Flavin -- the IL commit.
Tom VanHaaren -- "Illinois commit OL Pat Flavin received a call from Michigan OL Coach Darrell Funk today. Flavin has an offer from SDSU."
His offer list is impressive.
