Hoke just handles recruiting.
While I realize a majority of you will go "Duh", this is just another example of why this coaching staff is dominating on the recruiting trail.
This is one of our vaunted, committed recruits. I can imagine that the family feel, as well as the full court press an uncommitted guy will get.
Wyatt Shallman @WyattShallman
Just a days worth of letters from the greatest college in the land! #goblue :)
EDIT
Please cover the kids address. His family doesn't need the Ohio's getting it & doing dirt! #goblue
But he posted it on twitter
I'm sure Wyatt took and put the picture online so it shouldn't be a big deal
that's only from one team, imagine those guys with 30+ offers
MODS!
says that "MODS!" in your house is actually "MOM" followed by a "MEATLOAF"
You bellowed?
When the thread was posted, the address of Wyatt wasn't blurred out.
Concern erased.
You won't be so obviously pathetic then, and the board won't be annoyed by you. Dual win.
To be fair, I mean - he did post them to a twitter account where anyone and their brother can look at them. I'm not sure he really cares if they are out there or not.
I edited the photo. I realize it shouldn't matter because "its on twitter", and I understand the whole "don't be a creeper". Only reason I was aware of this is because the Michigan Football twitter retweeted it.
Regardless, Hoke is doing work.
Don't put anything past Ohio. Good move blocking the letters. Someone should tweet Wyatt the same. Michigan won't ever let up in recruiting until those LOI are signed and faxed.
I'm glad that U of M athletics uses some of its vast trove of BTN cash to support the US Postal Service.
BTN revenue alone can buy them 45,000,000 more stamps
It really is crazy to think about. You have to keep recruiting even the guys that are committed. (If you don't, that's a de facto suggestion for the kid to look elsewhere.) I wonder how personalized these letters are, or if they're just daily updates on the program.
I'm not sure why this seems out of the ordinary to you. This is the most common thing a recruiter can do. Larry the assistant field hockey coach at the local JC sends letters to recruits too.
He must not care about Michigan, he hasn't even opened his letters!
But I love it.
Anyone know how I could save this on my phone? I feel a need to have this at my disposal at all times.
Right click (or on a Mac, two-finger-click) on the image and save it on your desktop. Then email it to yourself. Any smart phone out there will be able to save an email attachment. Or just open this thread on your phone and save it directly.
The only caveat is that some phones/browsers have problems viewing animated gifs.
Thanks.
Where do the coaches find time to
- write so many letters
- visit high schools
- recruit 2013 kids
- also recruit 2014 kids
- and also coach?
In each coach's office is a special clock with an extra hour on it called "Intern O'clocK'. That hour is RIDICULOUSLY productive.
There is a team of students hired, I believe called "Team Blue" to basically do most of the letter stuffing and plenty of other things.
Adderall?
They found a way to break the time-space continuum. Considering what they did with the defense last year, quantum physics seems easy.
thank God you blacked out the address.........................................
not to mention they actually enjoy it
in recruiting as a handwritten letter. That is one thing all of our modern gadgets cannot take away.
.
Love the maize and blue sandals in the background. Also, I bet it would take someone ten seconds to find his address on the Internet if they really wanted it, so not sure that is really an issue. But do appreciate the effort to make sure it did not come from this blog.
Sounds like Treadwell may be visiting Michigan this weekend according to Tom VH (it's posted in the paywalled forum there). Worth a new topic?
When he was named the head football coach of the University of Michigan.
Talk about a total 180 degree.
Many of the comments made me more embarassed to be a Michigan fan than when I am playing an out of tune guitar with only two strings.
Being around a long time, I knew he was the right choice because I knew how Michigan to the core he was.
He put life back into a program that had the life sucked out of it by RR.
The average MGoBlog Michigan fan is a truly self loathing and cynical beast. Below this thread, you will see bitching and moaning because a legitimate top 5 runningback is down to us and another school.
The Hoke hire thrilled few, but I think as a whole we all took a deep breath and gave him the benefit. The first rumblings of acceptance were the Mattison hire.. the first true shot across the B10 bow so to speak was ND.. but then we shelled Nebraska. And we finally beat Ohio. And the thunderous roar of acceptance is now so loud you cannot hear yourself think.
BCS championship was the icing on the cake. That team accomplished something that hadn't been done in quite some time!
To be fair, apart from bleeding maize and blue, Hoke didn't have an unassailable resume. A lot of us took a wait and see approach. There's no doubt that his introductory press conference put his charisma on full display, and I personally felt a lot better bout the hire, but a 6-6 season would've changed much.
I'll take hindsight bias for $1,000 Alex
Glad you were right. Now if you and fans like you would stop being a douche to those that don't agree with your opinion this board will be better off.
Shakey, you know I can't quit you. You were an A2 legend and the fact that you're still around, pluckin' away on your two-string cigar box guitar and, surprisingly, posting on an internet sports blog, is cause for great celebration. You know, given that you're dead and all.
But I think the combination of lighter fluid and moonshine (and death) has addled your brain a little. I think most of the reaction to Hoke's hiring was surprise, fear, and hope, but nothing like the garment rending you describe, at least on average. Of course, there are exceptions to rules (His Dudeness) but not mass hysteria.
The first 2-3 days Hoke was on the job, this place was in a full-scale meltdown. When Denard announced he was staying, that settled some nerves, and the hiring of Mattison a few days later calmed some more. But those first 48-72 hours were pretty brutal.
Very insightful - I've never seen this mentioned on MGoBlog before.
