I was just rewatching some of Inside Michigan Football from this season (I really still don't know how we pulled off that ND win), and I swear he started almost every answer with "Well".  I couldn't believe how often he said it until I started to pay attention.  It was, well, tremendous.

Not "Not good". If you listen to the podcast, he starts with an answer that begins "Not...", but then he seemingly trails off and changes sentences and just says "Good!". He then talks about his esteem for Meyer. He also said, before the question, how much he looked up to Meyer.

Dan then says "I like your honesty, you said 'not good'", and Brady doesn't correct him -- probably because he didn't realize how it might have sounded.

Wanting something to be true does not make it true.

Technically, he didn't "turn the program around in a year."  He continued the progress that RR made after LC gutted the roster. RR may or may not have won ten if he had the chance to with a new DC, but either way, the program was already headed back up.  The only true arguing point is whether or not Hoke accelerated the rate of progress.

Cowherd even sucks when he is kissing my favorite team's ass.

Dude, let it go.

"The progress that RR made"???  Year, we really showed a ton of progress in our Gator Bowl humiliation.  Or in the OSU humiliation game that immediately preceded the Gator Bowl humiliation.  Or in the Wisco humiliation game that immediately preceded the OSU humiliation game which immediately preceded the Gator Bowl humiliation.

That was some progress there.

As to LC "gutting the roster," you do realize that when LC left, the offense - which was the problem in 2008 - was returning a #1 in the nation QB in Mallet, future NFL wide-outs in Manningham and Arrington (although i think that Mario was gone regardless), and a good number of supporting players.  Sadly, those players ALL left when RR came to town and (1) immediately fired every single member of the prior coaching staff, and (2) imposed his spread option offense on players so ill suited to run it that we lost to Toledo.  Then, RR didn't make matters better with his relatively poor recruiting and his inability to retain a fair number of the better players that he personally recruited.

Sorry, let's not re-write history.  In Lloyd's second-to-last season, he was a Crable late hit away from playing for the NC.  In his last season, despite injuries to his starting QB and RB, after a disastrous first two games, we ended up with 9 wins and beat the FLorida team that won the NC the prior year in our bowl.  Lloyd averaged 9.3 wins over his career, and turned in top 20 recruiting classes in every single season.  If Lloyd were the coach in 2008, you can bet we win a lot more than 3 games, keep our bowl streak alive, and don;t allow MSU to stockpile the instate talent that just propelled them to the B10 CG.

On a final note, if RR is there, we don't win 10 games.  Hell, maybe we don't win 7.  Because:  (1) who was going to coach the D?  No self respecting DC would EVER have come, given RR's mismanagement and meddling, and RR has already shown that he was going to retain his crappy assistants; and (2) our offense under RR was so one-dimensional that Denard was never going to make it deep into the schedule without getting the crap kicked out of him like he did in 2010.

the Lloyd boners are irritating. Lloyd was way past his prime and always had a terrible game plan against the vest. The WORST loss in Michigan history was "The Horror", and we all know who coached that game. RR was too stubborn and couldn't field a defense but he left us with Denard, Touissant, Countess and many other players that UM could be proud of.

It's tough being Blue in Columbus!!!

it was Lloyd who told Mallet to leave town, which he as already doing because Mustain was leaving a vacancy at Mallet's first choice, Arkansas.

And so on.

People who think loving Lloyd means having to hate RR are the same types who stabbed us in the back, like by conspiring with Freep hacks to sabotage the program.

At least we might hope that, as long as they think hiring Hoke is a vindication of Lloyd, that the treachery and sabotage might stop.

Coach Hoke was on The Big Show last week the Thursday before The Game.  As other long-suffering Columbus residents may know, The Big Show is the afternoon sports talk show on 97.1 co-hosted by former tOSU WR Dimitrious Stanley*  They asked him all the usual boilerplate stuff about the rivalry and about 'Ohio'.  The final question they asked Hoke was about his resemblance to Chris Farley.  Which... yeah, stay classy.

* Side note:  D. Stanley is one of the biggest idiots I've ever listened to on sports radio; he's like at least a 9 on a scale of one to Cowherd, and that's with the generous curve you have to give Buckeyes.  I get stupider every time I listen to him speak.  One gem was how he was talking about Michigan's improved defense.  He attributed it to Hoke - a first-year coach - bringing in 'his kinds of players'

Former Buckeye Antonio Pittman on being a poster child for compliance: "This osu tattoo stuff is silly. Cats been getting hookups on tatts since back in '01."

I remember when I first heard Common Man & Torg and couldn't stand them...and then they really grew on me.  Although they are homers, they'll call a spade a spade (especially in regards to Tressel, Pryor, Posey, etc.).  Easily the best part of my evening commute.

I about died when they had Stone Cold Steve Austin on the show, and he mentioned Tressel and how he thought he was a good coach.  After the interview, Common Man said "When he mentioned Tress...it moved a little down there."

as well, but they are huge homers (torg is my favorite). Also, Neft is a moron of biblical proportions.

I can't stand him either.  His arrogant demeanor is enough for me.

And on a more personal note, he is always leaving creepy comments on one of my college friend's facebook pics.  Sure he's her trainer, but there's something slightly discerning about a man commenting on a girl's body who was probably 11 years old when he graduated from OSU.

And the suits he wears on T.V.?  Turrrrible...

I don't know that Neft is appreciably more of a toolbag than the rest of the crew, but I only hear bits and pieces of him on my commute home sometimes.  Also, these are Columbus sports talk DJs so we're splitting hairs here.

I only really started listening to 97.1 this year when I could get drunk on Tatgate schadenfreude.  Interestingly enough, I don't think he's from Ohio, so he probably has to fake his Buckeye enthusiasm to some extent.

Is your college friend his producer Alicia the Fan Gril?  I almost feel sorry for her, having to spend several hours in a radio booth with Neft, but then I remember that she's probably a Casey Anthony-type Buckeye fan (w/o the whole infanticide bit, to her credit) and then I don't feel that bad for her anymore.

Former Buckeye Antonio Pittman on being a poster child for compliance: "This osu tattoo stuff is silly. Cats been getting hookups on tatts since back in '01."

Some discussion about managing the life of being a coach, obviously referencing Meyer's leave of absence

On rematches: part of the new landscape of college football (with all the realignment). "It's exciting"

"Department is taking a great look at" more night games at the Big House.

Did Colin use "meat and potatoes guy" to describe Hoke?

I've heard Colin use it a couple of times which gives the misimpression that he's not part of the "smart coach club" like Kelly, Petersen, or Miles. I pity any coach that believes this BS and goes into a game underestimating Hoke.

are totally uninformative and worthless. He never says anything worthy of note. Each response starts with "well" and from there you get vacuous comments. I am beginning to feel he lacks football smarts but is very able in hiring good assistants and creating an environment for rough tough disciplined football.

This is not meant to demean Hoke. He really doesn't offer much when it comes to interviews.
