Hoke Appreciation Thread

Submitted by Clarence Beeks on

If decisions are made in the Michigan administration using any degree of reason, that should be the last time we see Brady Hoke wear maize and blue on a football field. He cared a lot, seemed like a nice enough guy, said many of the right things, but just couldn't get the job done. Time to move on for both sides.

The two aren't mutually exclusive.

Beilein is a perfect example that you can be both virtuous and win. The only time his program took a step back is when he had a team with only one pro who was a cancer in the clubhouse. Now watch what he's doing with top recruiting classes.

Hoke has great talent, has the locker room attitude right, and the results are getting worse, not better.  Wake up, man.

but he's the exception, not the rule. Just because we found one guy doesn't mean that there are ton's out there, especially when those coach's are getting paid millions of dollars to win. We're extremely fortunate to have Beilein. But for every Beiein, there are 10's of Calipari, Coach K's and Bobby Knight's.

Here's my logic. Hoke does things the right way and care's for his kids. Saban and other winning programs do not. So if it's up to me and I was send my kid to a program, I'd send him to play for Hoke. I could care less if Michigan doesn't win another game for the next 5 years. As long as we have Hoke we will have a clean well-run program that I woulnd't trade for any of Saban's or Meyer's NC's.

Your statements are becoming too obvious for effective trolling. For shame. You are executing like our team does on the field. You need a good week of practice with the hokester to sharpen those trolling skills. Dont forget to clap!

we all want to win! I'd love to be undefeated. But I, like many on this board want to win the right way. That's a very famous and often-repeated statement around here. That's why I think Hoke should be retained. You tell me I had to choose between the season we're having now or Saban's 4 years of dominance and I choose Hoke every time. He does things the right way, and truly care's about the kids. for that reason alone he should be given at least through the end of his contract and i'd prefer him to get a few years in addition to that.

"The famous saying around here is that people would rather lose the right way than win the wrong way. Well this is what that looks like..."

...because that is so true.

Sadly, I fear your ticket to Bolivia may have already been punched.  Say "Hello" to Coach Hoke for me when you get there.

and people need to be patient. He's bringing in a bunch of good players, and it'll take a little time. He's only into his fourth year. That's not very long to build up a football program. He's a good man and he does things the right way. That's what matters the most at Michigan.

However, when this team makes a half-time defensive adjustment mark it down because it hasn't happened since Hoke has been here.  He has a man teaching 4 and 5 star OLmen how to block and how's that working out?  You are right about giving a coach enough time to get it done.  In RR's second year, still using players LC discarded and addition of his own on and with the addition of one player, Tate Forcier he started and Denard took to new heights he started a  two year streak of offensive football that hasn't been seen here in two decades.

If he wanted to tell his coach to hire a coordinator, he should have told RR, "I love your offense but I'm getting you a DC and you are going to let him do his job." If that would have occurred, we'd be celebrating the last 4 years of MI fb. And his recruiting has been good as you say, but for some reason I can't figure our he recruits clones and doesn't understand different skill sets are needed at different positions and he has yet to get us a SDE commit. As far as development, can you blame McDowell, against his mother's wishes to go to MSU. If he'd committed here, he might have been drafted but in a much lower round. I reiterate, no disrespect intended, just looking at it through different set of eyes.

Heck, I still like the guy.  It took me a few days to sort out my positive impressions of him and his statements in the aftermath of the Morris incident.  But now my head can't defend him as a "great man".

Anyway, the athletic department that BrandOn built absolutely requires a football program printing press to pay for the non-revenue sports as they're currently run.  Unfortunately, the athletic department NEEDS a football program that wins big to pay the bills.

They can fire Hoke and Brandon but unfortunately not some of the classless fans. It's no wonder some of the players were happy not to be playing at home tonight.

Player's venting their frustrations is the last thing we need. Coach Hoke is a wonderful and amazing person, and while the results are what we would like, we are extremely lucky to have him as our HC. He run's our program cleaner than any other's in the country and he truly cares for our players. So let me ask you. What would you prefer.... a meaningless win over Rutgers, or a coach that truly and honestly cares for the successfulness of his players as human beings? I and most on this board are choosing the second option, and that's why Hoke deserves an extension.

I Heard

Hoke apparently said he would walk home if they lost tonight. If this does indeed happen and I don't doubt he will stop at a buffet or twelve, what say we grab and few pitchforks, torches, and "greet" him at the Ohio border ?

are an absolutely disgusting individual and an embarassment to the entire Michigan fanbase. Hoke is a great person who genuinely cares for his players, something that is rare in this day and age. I would gladly take Hoke and a 2-10 record over a Saban/Meyer and their NC's. Please turn in your fan card and never root for Michigan again. We don't need you and you completely disgust me.

Hoke is perhaps a nice guy and even a good person.  But he is not a "great" person--whatever that is.  He hasn't been close to a great coach at anytime in his career.  Serviceable is about the best one can claim. His career record bears that out.  His last 3  yeas have been progressively bad--and now awful, embarrassingly awful. There is not a single example of his developing a player a Michigan--so the fact that we are young(ish) is irrelevant.  A new QB will not be a plus IMHO as every Morris appearance has shown--particularly last week.   You are about 13 days late on the Hoke defense team.  Even those who might have been with you then have jumped ship by now--save, perhaps, Cold War.

I cannot imagine you are a season ticket holder---and I suspect you are only a casual fan. Well. I've paid my financial dues and given my time and I have a right to expect more and better.  That said, Brandon must go before Hoke.

It's pretty clear Hoke will be gone, unfortunately it is pretty clear we have to get through the season before he is actually fired. Hopefully we can get a new AD in the next month, then the new AD can start the search process to kick hoke after the OSU game and get the new staff on board as early as can be

At this point, it probably needs to happen, Hoke being removed from his current post, at least in my opinion, but I will say that there was a time when I thought that this might be it for us. That is to say, that it might get better under Hoke, but I think bad management inside the AD and bad management on the field makes Hoke, well, not the future of Michigan, at least if we want it to be what we know it can be.

of what we can. There is no better compliment to a program than stating that i care's about it's players and does everything it can to prepare them for life beyond football. That to me is what makes Michigan football a great program. Are we going to have winning season's and NC's under Hoke? No probably not. But at least we have a coach that cares what happens to our player's once they leave our great University. I'll take that everyday over a Saban, Meyer, Dantionio.

Hoke is a great person who loves and cares for his team and Michigan football. I know that the results aren't exactly what we would like, but we NEED to be patient and keep believing in our staff. At the very least he needs to be given the rest of this year and 2015, and in fact I believe there is a strong case for giving him the 2016 season. Anyways, Hoke is an amazing person and a caring coach who runs the program the right way. The saying around here is "we'd rather lose the right way, then win the wrong way". Well we're seeing the results of that and we just have to tough it out during this downtime. Good times under Hoke are coming.

I hope you are joking...2016? The guy cant get it done with a 5yr senior QB who leaves next year, junior first round receiver who most likely will leave, senir LBs and upper class defense...wtf is he going to do next year? Have a good OL but crappy defense...might as well keep him, cause it will make our rivals happy

You are the reason for Michigan's downfall? Are you fucking serious? 2016? He's hitting every record flog futility while a RS Frosh QB at OSU and countless other schools with inferior recruiting classes and similar issues with youth are IMPROVING and your dumb ass wants to give it more time because Hoke is nice???? Saban Dantonio Meyer and every other perfectionist coach who actually wins are all not nice. Fuck. You must be a loser in life to even post this after this embarrassing start to a season if this is acceptable to you.

I want to give him more time because he actually cares for the welfare of our team. He gives a shit about what actually happens to our players outside of football. That to me means a hell of a lot more than some stupid win over Rutgers. Let Saban, Dantionio, and Meyer win all the games, but have they had any truly positive influence over the kids they coach? My guess is that it's not even close to the impact Hoke has had on ours. So please forgive me for being a loser if I place the welfare our player's future over a few mere wins.
