Hockey: What's with the weird scheduling?

I just got my student hockey tickets, and I'm excited as hell. I love that there are 6 games in 13 days.

I'm wondering why the scheduling is so weird though. Usually it seems there might be a couple of games on Tuesdays or Thursdays, but this year there are a bunch of weird days.

Sidenote: why is the Northeastern ticket void?

Mike Martin told me he loves me. My life is quite possibly complete.

It might have something to do with the BTN televising more games. I don't know that for sure, but I do know they're putting more on TV this season. BTN isn't going to put hockey on over basketball or football (sigh).

Most of the home games are in the Fall and as indicated above, more games are on weekdays which is hard for those that live an hour away.

Gratuitous plug - check out the ticket spreadsheet in the other section under Mgoboard above for really cheap tickets to Saturday and Tuesday's game.

I have a question about future seasons. I may be mistaken, but I remember seeing a post where somebody went to one of those Hoke/Red/Beilein meet and greets this summer. I remember seeing Red mentioning that they were in talks to play Cornell at MSG in the near future. Cornell is currently in the last year of a 3-year deal to play BU. As a Michigan and Cornell alum, I'd love to see it. I've been to the other two games against BU and it is an amazing atmosphere.

Has anybody else heard of this as a possibility? I searched for the post but couldn't find it.

I've heard that its a done deal that we are playing Cornell at MSG next season. Don't know when it is but I assume its only one game. We're also playing at RIT in the fall of 2013. Also, the mens basketball team is playing in the Preseason NIT next year, which has its semis and final at MSG.

I do not like the week games. Friday and Saturday nights are meant for college hockey.

Pardon me as I go on my diatribe on the B1G....

Fuck the BTN. Michigan should still be in the CCHA, Fuck you Delaney, you greedy bastard. Single handedly ruined the landscape of college hockey. Also the, BTN announcers have no clue what they're talking half the time during the hockey games that they do broadcast.

I'm just sick of people who know nothing about college hockey, or hockey in general (yes, you too Gary Bettman) tampering with everything. LEAVE IT ALONE!

while I share your disappointment that the CCHA is done and Michigan probably wont get to play some small local schools like LSSU, Ferris, and others, I believe that big ten hockey is gonna be awesome. We will compete against better schools who can fund top notch programs with professional facilities. Maybe with some bigger schools in the mix with more resources funded by the "devilish" BTN, college hockey can attach top talent and not be a secondish tier to the OHL in terms of a development path. These changes, although may seem crappy in the short run, will be beneficial in the long run.

Completely agree. Growing up with hockey as an afterthought, I love finally being able to watch NCAA hockey on TV. The more exposure the Big Ten can get, the better. The other element is recruiting, we're now part of a conference with huge fanbases that can watch on TV, and besides other B1G teams, no one else can say that. Kids in living rooms all across the US (jklol just the north) are going to ask ND, Miami and everyone else why they can't watch their team on TV but they can watch M. That's a great advantage for us.

While I don't disagree that TV brings exposure to the program, we already have a lot of M hockey on TV. Comcast TV, FSN, FSN+, CBS Sports. It's just, I don't care to listen to numskulls and nimrods of the BTN "call" games. Plus they will really push that BTN digital network junk online that you have to have a subscription to which means limited amount of games on TV.

...that's mostly in the State of Michigan. CBS Sports and BTN aren't available on everyone's cable packages either. As BTN gets on more cable packages, it willl give the Big Ten schools much more visibility through out the country. I live in the northeast, and I probably can only watch a couple games a year (on CBS sports), but once more games get on BTN and BTN is available to more people, Michigan hockey will have national exposure.

How exciting are the exhibition games?  I'm thinking about bringing some people who have never been to a UM hockey game before, but I don't want to bring them to a sub-par experience.

Is the crowd full?  Do the students still do all the cheers?

There should be a decent crowd there given the football game is at noon and they'll probably do some kind of deal where you get in free with your football ticket stub. Its not the full package at all but at least it's a game(ish)? Go to the first weekend of conference play (10/21-10/22 against northern). Football has a bye week so Yost will be even more packed.

yes, 6 games in 13 days, but more importantly, 5 in 8(!) and 4 in 6(!!!)  the team is going to be dead tired after the first week of the season.

@mlaw2010: i'm a Michigan alumnus, current Cornell grad student.  haven't heard any rumblings around here about potential Michigan matchups, but i too would be very excited.  i'll ask around among people who might be in the know here.

[semi-OT: of course, not renewing with BU would make some of Cornell's cheers even more outdated and ridiculous.  i'd also like to see Cornell play home-and-home with Penn State when the time comes.]
