That and it can be used as a competitive advantage, which I'm sure the schools that have Olympic sized rinks don't want to give up.
IIRC the Minnesota womens team will move to the mens arena (or not) based on their opponent.

Maybe Wisconsin or someone then? I don't remember the story too well but I'm pretty sure there's a womens team that switches ice surfaces.

NMU has an Olympic-sized rink because Marquette is home to an Olympic Training Center? That would be my educated guess.
As for NHL-sized ice, even the NHL has had some amount of disparity over the years. I think things are more-or-or less standardized now, but I am pretty sure Boston and possibly Chicago had smaller ice surfaces for many many years.

wonderful sheet of ice. seats about 5,000 and is a fun place to see a hockey game. i loved playing at lakeland too (NMU's old arena), it was a dump but it also had good ice and atmosphere.

Dan Dickerson is one of the best, not too many since Ernie retired, then passed on, that I will praise like that.

Sweeping MN was awesome, though like Red said, too many goals against.
Congrats to Red on #800! Hope to keep the wins coming.
