Not a major commitment, but another spot is filled for next year's class. That makes six. Always nice to see Michigan kids get the nod.

... this is a pretty important commit. Any addition to the forward spot for next year is huge because were going to graduate 5 seniors at this position.

we got a lot of young talent, next year we should struggle a little but should players improve and add a little consitency on D, i think theyll be fine, especially with the tendy comin in

It is from a numbers/depth perspective, but in the short term, that's probably about it.

with you, but I don't think the numbers argument can be understated. If Fallon doesn't come back, T. Lynch is our 12th forward. As a bonus, it sounds like he can more than hold his own defensively (and he's an early 1991 birthday, which helps). I will most certainly take that at this point in the process.

Good luck to Travis! He's a good kid that works really hard. He played midget major hockey for Victory Honda and was the hardest worker they had.

Not an overwhelming commit. He looks to project as a 3rd liner for most of his career. I was hoping Michigan could have gotten someone a little more "exciting", but the grinder role is just as important as the scorer role, even though it is not nearly as popular.

In the recruiting process there aren't a lot of "exciting" kids left on the board for next fall. Kids in hockey, especially the top recruits, are going off the board by their sophomore or junior year of high school, if not before then (and in our case a lot of times it then becomes a game of hold on and hope they don't go to major juniors). All the big recruits right now are committing for 2012 and beyond. For next fall you're pretty much looking at role players or trying to find a diamond in the rough instead of getting another Tambellini or Cammalleri (which we sorely need for next year!).
This isn't an exciting commit, but he could turn out to be a very important role player as our special teams have blown this season. Penalty kill has an 80.3% success rate, which is ranked #41 in the nation out of 58 teams.

I understand. I know the college hockey landscape very well. My point is that Michigans recruiting has dropped off significantly since the early 2000's. Mel refuses to get on an airplane or leave the midwest/Toronto. Billy is worked to death because of it. Red rarely goes on recruiting visits and is not the best sell for a "stud" player (hes more of a "what will you do for Michigan", instead of "what we can do for you, come play for us").
There needs to be more of a presence in the USHL for good older players that developed later and also in the Canadian Tier II leagues (OPJHL, BCHL, AJHL, etc).
I know the landscape is getting more difficult in college hockey, but Michigan has fallen off from their top tier recruiting and I don't want to say what the solution should be (it has nothing to do with Red).
