Hockey Ticket Sales(Basketball ticket sales) == ?

Yes, the title is in function notation. The increase in hoops ticket sales has been noted across the M interwebs. My question is, how has it affected hockey ticket sales for students and ticket sales in general? Concrete info and opinions are both welcome of course.

With the two games this weekend against the U18 USA team on saturday night and some Canadian team sunday evening, if there aren't a lot of people there, don't start believing that sales are way down. last year the attendance for the first two games was pretty bad. the game against niagra later in the month will be a better gauge. i have a feeling there will be just as big a crowd there as last year and it will be as loud as usual.

I don't think it will make much difference. Peoples' winter fandom tends to be either basketball-focused or hockey-focused. During the 1990s, both drew well. What we're seeing right now, most likely, is longtime basketball fans coming back to the program after being disillusioned by the Ellerbe/Amaker years.

You're always going to have the crowds at Yost because of the caliber and tradition we've built. I think crowds at Crisler will be pretty damn good, don't get me wrong, but as with anything, they'll need to be competing for the Big Ten title every year if they want a Yost-like atmosphere. I don't think they'll be co-dependent. It's just that we'll be welcoming back Michigan basketball fans after years in hibernation/embarrassment.

i would guess hockey will lose some fans who didn't care or maybe didn't go that often. but most hockey fans are there because they love hockey, not because they jumped on a bandwagon of sorts. so i doubt the basketball team would be able to pull a significant number of hockey fans

According to the athletic department student hockey ticket sales are just about where they were last year and may end up exceeding last year's total when all the orders are in. This year might actually be the biggest student section ever. Yost will be fine.
