Hockey Pairwise Predictor is Up

Submitted by goblue7612 on

USCHO has put up their pairwise predictor again. You can choose who will win each game in the conference tourneys and they will show you how the pairwise looks with those results. I would not recommend trying each and every combination to see how Michigan turns out, as there are many, many combinations. But this should give you a good idea of what general results will hurt or help Michigan's bid for a 1 seed. Link below.

calculations, which assumed every other conference holding seeds (yah, yah, I know...) Michigan gets the last 1 seed if they win the CCHA (obviously) or if both they and Miami go 1-1 on the weekend (whatever the order of the wins/losses).  If Miami wins more games than Michigan, they will get the last 1 seed.

I don't know if any teams left in the predictor are close the the TUC cliff, which would be the big thing that would change those results.  Other problems are if Denver/Duluth/Merrimack pick up more wins then their seeding calls for (all three of them are tied with 23 comparisons, Michigan and Miami both have 25 (Michigan wins the tiebreaker with Miami via both RPI and winning the comparison against them).

According to the bracketology guy on USCHO, the only team that will shift the TUCs is Northeastern.

Doing some calculations, it seems that the farthest Michigan is likely to fall is to the 8th spot. That would mean losing two games at the Joe.

Michigan really needs to beat Western in the semis because I do not want to be facing ND or Miami in the 3rd place game. Ouch.

Overall, a CCHA title  = one seed.

Losing in the finals to Miami = 2 seed (probably one of the top ones though)

Interestingly, losing to ND in the finals means we could keep the last 1 seed. So we are rooting for ND to beat Miami in the semis.

Should be fun next weekend with bball and hockey.

if we lost to Western and Miami beats Notre Dame in the semis, but we beat ND in the consolation and Western beats Miami in the Finals, we will still get the one seed.

But, I really don't want us and Miami to be the 4/5 overall seeds, that means unless the committee screws with bracket integrity, we're both in the same regional again.  That would be boring.  And a despicably difficult way to get to St. Paul.

There needs to be a B1G hockey conference for the sole reason that there would be more hockey games on TV.

Right now the CCHA tourney is only on Fox Sports Detroit.  I don't live in the Detroit metro area, so naturally, I don't ge FSD.  However, I do get the B1G network and right now their scheduled programming for Friday evening and Saturday, when Michigan will play in the CCHA finals is wrestling, womens gymnastics, track and field, and golf.

Seriously, playoff hockey is the best, and now I'm going to have to go to some random bar and watch the game instead of enjoing it on my couch.  Argh....
