Hockey moves to 6 in Pairwise

Submitted by Srock on

Besides the great Senior Night game and the sweep of Western that came along with these two victories, Michigan also made a nice move in the Pairwise rankings - up to #6 - a solid #2 seed. It would appear to me that if UM wins 2 @ NMU this weekend, and then makes the Joe for the CCHA Semis they will be a 2 seed. I think they have bid #21 in a row locked up.

I also believe UM clinched (at worst) a #2 seed in the CCHA playoffs. Even if Northern sweeps UM and Miami sweeps, we tie in points, but will have more conference wins.

Go Blue!

EDIT - my bad, and just saw Mfan_in_Ohio's Pairwaise update in the Diaries. It's very good and very detailed. I didn't even think to look there. My bad!

Hello lads, first post and it is about hockey!

Habs fan so wondering about impressions of our two prospects at Yost, Bennett and Pateryn.

Any comments about their development?

Thanks and Go Blue! Fans in Montreal too!

The first conference tie-breaker is in conference wins.  Michigan had 18 to Miami's 14 (and ND's 17, which is why even a shoot-out win for them vs a sweep for us will give us the #1 seed), so Miami cannot catch us, no matter what happens this weekend.  Winning percentage against the other teams is the second tiebreaker.  It probably should be the first tie-break, but it isn't.

I have a feeling that ND will drop at least one point next week against Western, which leaves the door open for Michigan if we can get the sweep.

This team has to be flying high after last night as well as the last two weekends. They believe this could be the year which is a far cry from where we were after the Miami series.

So back to tie breakers, If ND were to drop even one point (ie winning one game in a shootout) and Michigan got the sweep, Michigan would win the tie breaker because of the conference win total.

I would love to add another banner to the Yost rafters, and I think we'll get our shot next weekend!

EDIT: How about 3 banners? CCHA Regular Season, CCHA Tourney, and National Title.

So we're likely to play Lake State, OSU or Alaska in the CCHA Quarters. That's really good. We've swept them all this year, so it seems we have a good chance to make it to the Joe.

The key is to beat Northern first next weekend. That and ND losing points to Western would be great for hanging a regular season banner in Yost.
