Hockey: #10 Michigan beats #4 BC 3-1

Submitted by gwkrlghl on

Edit: Since this became the game thread, Michigan just beat #4 BC 3-1 at home. Gigantic win this early for such a young team. Your outlook on the season should change accordingly

I thought I'd post some links for previews and such for the BC-Michigan game today as this is likely Michigan's biggest non-conference home game since...#7 BC lost to #5 Michigan 3-2 in 2005?

Also, even with all the TV coverage this year, somehow this game is relegated to Comcast channel 9e6 (or something) and that only. How the BTN, CBS Sports, NBCSN, and Fox Sports all managed to pass on this is beyond me.

From Western College Hockey SBN College Hockey:

Escalating ticket prices and a resurgent basketball program have taken a big bite out of the vaunted atmosphere at Yost Arena in recent years, but with the excitement of a new season and the buzz of a nationally-known opponent in the building, it should be rocking tonight, and could put a very young Boston College team on their heels.

From Maize & Brew:

The game being at Yost means Michigan will come out hard, but if you can't beat Waterloo, BC is a different eagle all together. BC 5, Michigan 2.

Based on this quote it looks BCInterruption will have something up today that they worked with MGoBlog on. Edit: It's up. You may not care not that the game has started but a good read

From the Daily

Personally, I don't feel too great about this game. BC is likely loaded and we are reloading. Like M&B, I envision a 5-2 type game as well. If you're free tonight, find a ticket and go be loud at Yost. Goal horn be damned

Is it just me or is hockey the longest season ever?  I go to a game a year or so and the last one I was at, we were excited b/c spring was in the air.  We are still hanging on to summer right now fergodsakes!

At least among the more prominent varsity sports, I believe that it is - this is an approximation based on memory, of course, but the span of the hockey season typically seems to best the span of the basketball season about about 3-4 weeks at Michigan historically, but both seem like they go on for a long time.

So, I suppose my answer really is, "It's not just you."

I guess BBall season is long too, seeing as we will be in Crisler in a few weeks.  I guess it is a good thing.  The Tigers and freakin awesome Michigan weather carry us from May until Sept.  Have to love where you live and it is truly a great state we live in.

As an administrator for the hockey team on big ten hockey's Facebook page I encourage you all to like us on Facebook and follow us on twitter if you can't watch or listen to the game tonight! New era of hockey is here and the B1G is ready to roll! Should be a great test for Michigan tonight to see what kind of team Red has under his wings this year! GO BLUE!

With the news of the ticket prices, the decreasing amout of students showing up and the bad taste of last season still in my mouth, I'm kind of depressed. Just make the tournament.

I just pray this opener goes better than last year.

Are dominating for freshman. De Jong is the real deal on the point. More so then downing. Copp is playing like copp. Racine looks good couple break away saves. Not a lot of action for him.

were not holding up, we're outplaying them completely. BC has had limited chances and is playing shaky defense. Michigan has 4 solid lines of forwards. The moffat compher motte line is playing extremely well. D are still shaky. Clare and Lohan have been mistaking the majority of there mistakes.

Huuuuuge. 3-1 victory over #4 BC. That certainly changes the expectations for the season having such a young team beat probably the only team that's been more successful in the last 10 years than Michigan.

Go blue!

After all of the talk today, it seemed like the game would not be a sellout.

Not sure if it was statistically, but damn was that an electric atmosphere for a first game. Arena looked filled on TV. So did the student section.

THIS is what Michigan Hockey is. Just lose the goal horn so I don't have to guess where to join the band at in The Victors.

I didn't see Michigan winning this game but they played a pretty complete game. Won't be able to watch the game Saturday night since football is on at 5 and I don't have Time Warner Sports - New York. But hopefully Michigan goes to Blue Cross and humiliates RIT and storm into Durham.
