The Heroics of Jay Feely

Submitted by JimBobTressel on

There ought to be a thread about this...

With the Cowboys leading 26-24 after they shanked an extra point following a TD late in the 4th quarter, there was some entertaining football

- Cards began their last drive with less than 2 minutes and no time outs

- DeMarcus Ware crushed Cards QB John Skelton immediately

- Skelton found Larry Fitzgerald at last on 4th and 15 for 26 yards

- Cards got within field goal range before being pushed back 5 yards by a lineup penalty

-Jay Feely nailed the game-winner from about 48 yards. Sneaked it in the right upright. Crowd goes NUTS, Cards bench jumps around and gets a excessive celebration penalty.

Doesnt matter, because Feely does one of the most impressive kickoffs I have ever seen.

He BOOTS IT DOWN the field so far that the Cowboy return man watches it roll into the endzone, except it doesn't...it comes to a dead stop RIGHT BEFORE it crosses the goal line. Right before! That was incredible. Returner picks it up, is immediately clobbered, game over.

and more about how badly the Cowboys choked this game away. No, scratch that, their season. They look worse every time they have a lead. I don't know how they could've blown it more...

...Had Arizona lost, I think Arizona would've choked more than Dallas. Sure, Dallas missed the XP and let the Cards march into FG range, but the Cards held a 21-3 lead earlier in the game, 14 points of which were gift pick-sixes.

Regardless, Jay Feely's kickoff was one of the most impressive kickoffs or punts I've ever seen. Unbelievable. Rolled a few feet from the sideline and literally stopped inches from the goal line. Second game he's the team's star in the month of December.

Why did you have to say that? Now I have to go outside and do some voodoo ritual to prevent your jinx from fueling the Demonic Curse of Bobby Layne, which has been ruining the Lions' chances for a championship for 50 years and counting. Was going to save that lamb for the New Year's Eve party, but now it has to be sacrificed. *grumble* *grumble* *grumble*

any one/team that beats dallas is a friendly foe in my books (for a week), Now Goudis needs to go to the jay feely school of kicking and we should be set for the next four years.

than any other NFL team, so glad that one of them is pulling them out of the mire.  And I absolutely agree with the Feeley Tutorial option.  Is it an NCAA violation for an NFL player to drop by as a volunteer to help out the kids?

His golden toe and wily fake FG antics propelled me to a victory in the first round of the playoffs a couple of weeks ago in my FF.  It never seems to fail, if you pick up a Wolverine off of waivers, he'll make you look like you know what you're doing.

You may remember that...

On the national tilte team in 1997 Jay Feely was the back up kicker to Kraig Baker.  Feely was thought to have the  stronger leg (he kicked a 51 yarder) but Baker got most of the FG (14/19) and EP (35/37) attempts.

Maybe IF Broekhuizen and/or Gibbons improves and Goudis is good, we might actually have a '97 like kicking situation in a year or two.

Wouldn't that be a great surprise?
