Woo, Freep print link (see note at bottom).
As an ABC commentator, he covered the Michigan-Iowa game last year and was surprised at the Wolverines.
"Sitting there, looking at their secondary, I said, this doesn't seem like Michigan football," Herbstreit said. "I don't know the details as far as the scholarship numbers and where they lost players. But I know that when Lloyd (Carr) left, if Lloyd would have come back the next year, they still were going to struggle. A coach is as good as his personnel. For people to assume Rich Rodriguez has forgotten how to coach after the success he had in Morgantown is crazy. But he needs players."
The thing I like about Herbie (which has been said often here) is that he does his best to be neutral when he's speaking in a national forum (his homeriffic c-bus radio stints notwithstanding). He recognized our secondary (and probably mostly the safeties) for what it was - lacking in top-tier playmakers.
So the comment on the Freep: I was just playing around with the Freep link converter that octal9 whipped up and posted in mgoshoe's freep meta-post. Basically just alters the address from "www.freep.com/article/xyz" to "www.freep.com/print/article/xyz"

That's because, besides his huge mental lapse deciding to go to OSU, Herbstreit seems to actually usually be a pretty smart guy.
