Herbstreit said Michigan will be 10-1 going into The Game

Submitted by South TX MFan on

This may have already been talked about in other threads, but I haven't seen it. I also haven't gone through every post either. Sorry if it's old news.

During the GameDay telecast Herbstreit said he believes Michigan will be 10-1 heading into Columbus, with our only loss coming to MSU. Desmond agreed. Pollack said that might be possible, but it'd be because of our schedule and Notre Dame and Northwestern missing players, and we still wouldn't be what he considers a "great team." Herbstreit countered, saying that Michigan will be a lot better than most people think. This was prior to the Appalachian State game.

I was really surprised to hear this, especially since a vast majority of analysts I've heard talk about Michigan said that we'll be down again. Herbstreit even gave more credit to us than I did, as I guessed we'd be 9-2 at that point.

So far so good! It'll be nice to get some respect again.

consensus

We really have been universally panned from the pre-season rags, national & local sports radio hosts, sports writers, etc... No respect.

FYI, I was listening to the Gophers pre-game on Thursday, and the crew picked Michigan to be the 6th best in the conference also.

I don't know how this is all going to play out, but MAN do we have A LOT OF TALLENT on this TEAM!

Panned by the front page of this great sight as well.  Aside from D. Howard's prognostication last week, and Herbies pronouncement yesterday, Gerry DiNardo did say Michigan was being overlooked.  Last night DiNardo amended that to extremely overlooked.

morning on Jamie Morris' new show.  The team does seem to have a chip on their collective shoulders.  Which is what we need. . .

Especially when national pundits (Matt Millen and Andre Ware) are saying that Michigan State is the better program in the state right now. . .

I would never say losing to MSU would be great. If we were 10-1 and lost to someone else, I would say it would be great. If we were 11-0, I would say it would be awesome!

Georgia and USC have great traditions.   But for whatever reason they like to talk Michigan down.  You cant be credible if you are always 100% negative on a school.  Call it what you want.  I think they are jealous of the national exposure and tradition Michigan carries and cant see past it to be objective.

I went to the game all day and it was awesome! Than I went to a wedding. I'm sober now and I still think Mark May's a jerk even though a forgot where he went school. Wine, Beer and Vodka and Hail to the Victors followed by some exceptional or at least entertaining dance moves. Ha ha ha. I do like our team for a lot of reasons.

You bring up a good point and an area we need to improve on.    Our three toughest games are on the road and that is going to be a challenge.  Devin is now a 5th year senior and will need to step up and lead us.  I think his experience and the mentoring he will get from Nuss will make the differance.  Three rivalry games on the road will be tough but they are all winnable.

I've hated him from the moment I saw him on ESPN. It may be that I just hate all the youngest guys they've added (I really freakin hate the newest guy I noticed that they bring in to talk about the NFL). I'm 22 so it's not like I hate young people, these young guys just seem to be real dopes. Jesse Palmer is the only one I can tolerate for any amount of time. I'm gonna start sidetracking here, but I really felt like puking when I watched the SEC Network before the USC Tex A&M game. They were just trying way too hard to compliment everything about each team, the stadium, everything SEC, etc. I get it because it's the SEC Network, but the Big Ten Network isn't that bad, is it? I really hate Tim Tebow, and I'm not even sure why. He seems like a truly great person, but I think his voice is mostly what annoys me. That bald Paul Finebaum can be somewhat of a dick, too. I probably need to avoid ESPN as much a possible.

Palmer is horrible.  He never shuts up.  Someone told him that he needs to make some 'critical analysis' after every play.  He is completely annoying and most of his opinions are irrelevant.

I thought that he said Michigan would be 10-1 going into The Game if they beat ND next week.  Big difference.  I'm still shocked that so many people are writing Michigan off against MSU.  Sparty is one season removed from a 7-6 season (and needed to win a crappy bowl game to break .500).  Michigan certainly has more talent on the roster than MSU.  Now they have some depth and experience too.  No reason to concede ANY game at this point.

I am sure state will be a good team, but suddenly people are treating them like they are some unstoppable force. There offense was terrible last year. It got better late in the season, but it was still being helped by a great defense. That D is going to take a step back and the offense is probably coming with it or staying even with any improvements hurt by much worse field position and lack of defensive scoring.

I honestly thing Michigan has an even chance of winning at state, and if it was home I would be picking us.
