wow, kirk just letting pryor and the rest of buckeye nation have it. said their OL is the most underachieving line of the last 10 years, that forcier and barkley have better understandings of what it is to be a QB as true freshmen than pryor does. he then said that what's really alarming is that he hasn't progressed at all.
herbstreit pulling no punches
I was thinking the same thing. He was just killing Pryor.
Now THAT is an informative post! Thank you so much!
When is this D-bag getting banned?
the original post was much lighter in content. i actually went back and added a summary to avoid a comment like his but i was too slow.
How dare you insult MGoObes! Banhammer please.
And I'm pretty sure his tie has some Minnesota colors in it.
and came close to saying that his 40 time was FAKE. He then predicted a victory for us,
To become a Kirk Herbstreit fan? I mean, he was fun to watch today while he trashed TP and predicted a UM win, but is being a fan allowed? I just don't know.
What Herbie just said that is actually noteworthy is that Michigan leads the country in 3-and-outs forced. Did anybody know that? For all the ragging our defense gets, thats a solid stat.
I imagine Delaware State is a large part of that, which makes the stat at least a little less meaningful.
We aren't the only team in America that plays cupcakes.
The Delaware State game helped a lot, but dang, did not think we were forcing that many. Impressive!
WTF! stupid computer.
I know of 3 that we forced when we needed the ball back for a game winning/tying score.
Despite the Les Myles fiasco, Herbie is a pretty fair commentator. He usually tends to favor Michigan and has come out in our defense on many occasions. I was surprised and impressed by his honest assessment of the OSU offense, apparently so was Corso.
But I'm sure this is strategic to protect the necessary analyst air of objectivity. He (and ESPN) knows that he has to be super sensitive to coming across as a Buckeye homer. I think he and Desmond both cook up some jabs at their alma maters for this reason.
I missed the picks section of GameDay, which way did the panel go on our game today?
Penn St: LaVell Edwards & Corso
M : Herbie
Corso and Lavell Edwards--them. Desmond-us
Fowler: Penn St
Frankly, the criticism he's getting this year has got to be a big blow to his ego. He might continue to respond by denying he's doing anything wrong.
Still, this may be enough to convince him to listen to the coaches. I suspect he'll improve in the next couple of years--it's just a question of how much.
that kind of blows my mind. dude, kirk. he's a sophomore. i guess we're not the only neurotics.
Herbstreit is a pretty fair guy. I have more respect for him than any other OSU fan/alum.
He spent a long time dissing Pryor, then turns around and picks Tate and The M over Penn State! Buckeye Nation is not going to be happy with him...
IMO. I'm not a fan of how negative he sounded on Pryor on a nationally televised forum. Again, these are kids, not pros. And that sort of commentary will only fuel the fire of boo-birds in Columbus and idiot Buckeye fans. I watched the first series of their game just now and after a three and out their fans were already booing a sophomore QB.
I see your point, but like, he's a college football analyst, man. It's his job, and if somebody's sucking, it's his job to tell you he's sucking.
Now, burning your house down on purpose, to collect the insurance money? THAT might be wrong.
i hate the talk about "these players are kids". since when does being 20 make you a kid? There are 20 year olds in the armed forces, 20 years olds who have 2 kids and work at a factory. A generation ago 20 year olds were considered men, now they are kids who can't have criticism levied against them.
Ohio State has the most underperforming OL in major college football.
I will say this about Pryor - he was a bit of a prima donna during the recruiting process, and has done and said just enough boneheaded things to bug alumni like Herbstreit. I think what bothers him about Pryor is that he has not shown any real progression as a player and has been kind of a headcase at times. Herbstreit really does seem to buy into the old Woody-Bo mentality that you keep your mouth shut and win for the team. Pryor seems to embody the me-first mentality that is the antithesis of that mindset.
Coming from a former starting QB for the Buckeyes, and whose profession is not to call it like he sees it, has got to be particularly damning. On the other hand, watching today's second half of Minn-OSU, its pretty clear that Tressel must have decided to let Pryor be Pryor, and "to hell with the pro-set QB idea."
How's Columbus treating you, Justin?
I want to see him get flattened by our D-line.
There are two Herbstreit's - the one you see on ESPN and the one that has a radio show in Columbus. They are two totally different people. He only talks like this on ESPN to sound fair and balanced. I would prefer he was a little more like Palmer and Desmond in some respects in that they aren't afraid to support their schools. Herbie is a little fake. I think he is outstanding other than his Buckeye and Wolverine speak, which is skewed the wrong direction a little too much.
