It doesn't matter. I don't see RR going anywhere after this season. Yes, the defense is horrible and the worst ever at UM, but we have all talked about this before. Injuries, depth, etc. are at fault. If RR cannot improve the defense by the end of next year (via new DC, new scheme, something), then yes I agree. Let him go and find someone that is more well rounded when it comes to coaching. But until then, people are going to keep saying this shit until DB makes a decision.
Herbstreit at it again
I don't think RR is going anywhere after this season either. Furthermore, to have RR as our coach, and also have Harbaugh's name tossed around are both compliments to the great University of Michigan.
I am not a huge Rich Rod supporter but I do believe he is the right coach to turn the program around. I know he was the man to put us in this position but you can see the improvement. This offense is as potent as any in college football. One more year with the starters they have on offense (I believe they only lose Schilling) and I they will be contending for the Big 10. With the defense its whole new bag of issues but I think when they get healthy they should be an ok defense. Not great or even good but average and that's all they'll need to be with an offense scoring close to 40 points a game.
That being said I think Harbaugh would be great for the longevity of the program but for the short term, its on RR. Only AD Brandon knows.
Dave Brandon. I think if he is going to keep RR he needs to let it be known...and soon. We have potential recruits sitting on the fence right now and if they feel RR won't be here next year they'll opt for somewhere else. DB needs to put an end to any speculation about RR being around next year. The guy can coach and he's a pretty damn good recruiter, unlike our last coach who didn't even make a recruiting trip his last few years in office (or so I'm told). Society is so predicated on the 'now'..."We want it now! Goddammit!"...so time is running out for RR, but I hope he's kept around because I see good things happening in AA in the years to come. The 'D' will improve, along with the 'O', and we'll be singin' The Victors after a win over tOSU before we know it. GO BLUE!
I was under the impression Carr had health issues which was why he stopped making recruiting visits and wanted to retire after the 06 season.
I agree a lot of the problem with this program were out of RR control but if you wait until next year you might lose out on a chance to get a really special coach in Harbaugh. If RR is not fired after the game then they need to come out and let everyone know that he will in fact be the coach next year and not give a BS we will evaluate at the end of the season other wise we will get killed in recruiting.
I would ordinarily agree that RR should have a bit more time to pull things together. But the window may be closing on the opportunity to get Harbaugh. In the words of old Bo: "I want a Michigan man to coach a Michigan team." Harbaugh fills that bill; RR does not.
I honestly believe that another year or RR is simply another year lost. Think about it: SEVEN straight losses to the Buckeyes, FOUR straight to the Spartans. Not fair to the kids. Not fair to the fans.
He's a college football color commentator...what other 'breaking news' on any other subject has he offered? I think there is some malice here...exposing Miles painted him into a corner, and forced him to make a hasty decision, under media pressure, to stay at LSU..
Now he's mucking up this potential transition whether he knows anything or not...if he's wrong, so what? Not his job to scoop stories anyway, and the damage is done..either with recruiting if RR stays, or screwing up a smoother, behind the scenes transition to the next coach..
I liked it better when our defensive linemen were concussing him.
I liked Herbstreit better when he was ontheground.
He can still call a good game and his analysis is pretty sound, but he just completely loses me with his breaking news garbage. Just can't respect it.
Michigan, erm, LSU Coach Les Miles also just can't respect it.
That should have been an INT.
That late hit when Herbstreit was already on the ground could have easily been avoided.
I hope to see TP in a similar state on Saturday.
Me too, I would love it if he shows up in AA instead of Columbus. The look on his face would be priceless. "Uhhh, where did everybody go?"
I like the part when Keith Jackson says..."and he just deflates him (Kirk Dickheadstreet or Kirk Smokin' Herb walkin' down the street) completely...". You gotta believe that deep-down, the fuckin' guy can't stand the Wolverines. Oh well, fuck that bucknut...his comments don't mean a thing to me.
"Herbstreit throws a balloon downfield." heh heh heh
"I dont want to jump to conclusions about Michigan but let me jump to a conclusion about Michigan." Fuck stick.
Fake as fuck.....TP.
1) These are rumors and deserve no attention.
2) Who cares about Herbstreit?
is just an ass. Imagine if someone in his position, like Desmond Howard, started spewing factless crap about Tressel or his program? Where does some idiot ex fuckeye getting inside info about our situation? What an absolute deuche. I hope he just stops talking(breathing).
I have always liked Herbie. But the timing of his Michigan coaching comments is really getting suspect.
Anything Herbie states the exact opposite tends to happen. Take his game day predictions for example.
1) Lee Corso is actually the father of ONE of Herbstreit's kids
2) tOSU girls are ugly
3) Mike Barwis could bench press a Taurus when he was 14
4) Jim Tressel drinks wine coolers
5) UM is the leader and best
I think you're missing the obvious...Derp-streit?
In this case, there's A LOT of smoke and A LOT of fire.
Harbaugh is on his way... will it be on Monday or after the Bowl game?
Nice 2nd post! Seriously though. People have been calling for RR's head for 3 years now. There's not any more pressure to win now than there has been before. We're going to be 7-5 and probably play a good team like Mizzou in a bowl. So, 7-6? It's not great, but I think Brandon will keep him around for one more year before re-evaluating again.
... will be how well Michigan does in the bowl game. With the 15 practices and all the time to prepare, neutral site, good weather, I am confident we can play with anybody and win. If we are manhandled again, I wouldn't be surprised if RR is let go, although I wouldn't agree with the decision. Let RR have next year and I think he will prove that the slow but steady progress has been worth it.
I don't know if we could beat a Mizzou. Our D just doesn't have the experience. And we're not as talented as a lot of other teams on that side of the ball.
I have NEVER heard of a coach being fired after the bowl game. It would completely dynamite recruiting and continuity.
Tough first day huh?
Re:What I've heard, and what I believe will happen 2 hrs. ago (permalink)
In this case, there's A LOT of smoke and A LOT of fire.
Thanks MichFan4Life; now go find some other sites to share this statement with.
I love you
he's stoking the fires of the rivalry, dividing the Michigan fan partisans a little more, pleasing his OSU adherents, and making good ratings for ESPN. Recognize it for what it is.
And if Rodriguez is replaced by Harbaugh, I know a lot of 49ers fans who are going to be pissed off.
Not only 49ers fans... there isn't a Sparty/Irish/Buckeye fan on earth that wants to see Harbaugh as the head coach at Michigan.
said about Brian Kelly and Michigan/ USC fans last year. And we've all seen the debacle of a year one he's had..
The ones who want to see Rodriguez as our head coach are fooling themselves. This team is destined to be really good the next two years.
Yes, the defense is going to be fantastic next year, the players will be another year older and this coaching staff has already proven how great they are at developing defensive talent. oh, wait a minute . . . .
Donovan Warren doesn't declare for NFL, God doesn't strike down Woolfolk. Could've been a much different song we're singing this year.
It seems that a lot of those same people don't want to see RRod coach here either.
Herbstreit has no credibility talking about Michigan coaching situations. Remember when he came out and "broke the story" that Les Miles accepted the job at UM in 2006? Great work that was. Regardless, Herbstreit is simply regurgitating other meaningless drival in the MSM and really adding nothing new to the discussion
for the rest of the weekend. Between GameDay, the Detroit papers, and the rest of the web, this will continue all weekend long and it is not credible information.
Who is this Herb Kirkstreit? Never heard of him.
And the quotes in the above article are accurate. He was asked a legitimate question about Harbaugh, and answered it in a rational way. He didn't say, "I was told that Rich Rod is gone on Monday...."
He said, I believe correctly, that if a move happens, that it would be shortly after the OSU game, and that Harbaugh is the obvious candidate for the job. He also seemed to suggest that U-M is Harbaugh's dream job. But, since Harbaugh has never suggested it one way or another, who knows?
Is is realistic to suggest that the hiring is already a "done deal", as it must be, if Harbaugh gets hired the "next day", which is the literal quote from KH? No way. That news would have been on the street and on the interwebs faster than a naked photo of Bristol Palin.
What's this accurate analysis you're bringing here? I wasn't sure that was allowed this week.
i think a naked photo of Bristol Palin would be held onto for a while compared to CFB hirings. one is sexy, the other's really only interesting to a niche of undateable men who live in their parents' basements.
Men who have been married longer than 6 months.
i've only been married 17 months and i can tell you that if a naked picture of Bristol Palin showed up in my email i would burn my computer, ship the ashes to a priest and request the Vatican hide it where they buried Jimmy Hoffa's body.
Bristol Palin: Not. A. Fan. Amirite?
Herbstreit is just doing his job, which is to offer his opinions about college football.
the next person to say "RR Being Firedanigans" is going to be Pistol Whipped.
what's that name of that restaurant you like with all the goofy shit on the walls, and the mozzarella sticks?
Here you Geaux, captain.
What? You mean RR Being Firednanigans?
Dude, weird. There is this restaurant I like with goofy shit on the walls and mozzarella sticks.
YOU BOYZ LIKE MEXICOOOOOOOO???
Damned if you fire Rodriguez and damned if you don't at this point.
Bringing in Harbaugh would be a good move, but giving Rich Rod another year would be good move too. Don't care either way.
Harbaugh won't be available next year so if Rich Rod stays Brandon better be sure he's gonna turn it around. Martin hired him but if Brandon gives him another year, he then becomes HIS coach. Is he willing to put his head on the line for a guy that has divided the fanbase and has become a media punching bag?
... was already divided before RR was hired. The factions were "Carr should go vs. Carr should stay" and then later it was "Les Miles vs. not Les Miles" or "It has to be a Michigan Man vs. Just bring me a proven coach, even if he's not from the Michigan 'bloodline' ".
The "Just bring me a proven coach, even if he's not from the Michigan 'bloodline' " faction won, but the "It has to be a Michigan Man" side never accepted it. Just the fact that RR got the job alienated a lot of people. That's hardly his fault.
Yeah! Big upgrade.
it is 48 degrees in NYC, NY
it is 48 degrees in SF, CA
therefore, the weather in NY and CA is the same
I was perfectly content with my foul mood, and you just spoiled it with humor. Nice going.
False equivalencies are a perfectly acceptable debate tactic nowadays.
Can we please just let the man ride out "HIS" first recruiting class for a full 4 years and see what his guys can do when they arent still in puberty or something? It's utterl disappointing to see the fan base this way, I dont even know what to say to people anymore. Just hold the faith. Good things will come, worry about Saturday.
Stanford and Michigan were obviously in the same boat when JH and RR took over each respective program...
At least call it like it is.
not being in the same boat as RR. He had Toby and Luck to help him tread water. Is that calling like you want it?
RR needs a fourth year. If the D can can get halfway decent we can go 10-2.
I'm not the only one who thought that comment was ridiculous.
It would also be nice if an automatic reply popped up about the team RichRod took over, losing 9 offensive starters and 5 to the NFL as well as many contributors on defense. If you are going to laugh at those comparing Michigan to Stanford as the respective head coaches took over, you might want to actually say something like "it is ridiculous to compare the two as their situation is nothing alike." Not "1-11 1-11 1-11 1-11."
It is amazing to me that you can say "it is ridiculous to compare Harbaugh to RR at their respective schools because their situations were so different" and then in the next sentence say "now let me compare the records of both teams before they took over so that I can show how much I dislike RR and love Harbaugh." The reality is you don't like RR so you will use whatever you want to prove how bad he is. I mean, Harbaugh had a really shitty defense at Stanford for 3 years until they got respectable....and they play in the fucking Pac10. But you are right, I guess the situations are similar when you want to show how amazing Jimmy is but completely different when it doens't fit your argument.
Brandon Minor - 199 carries, 1035 yards, 6 receptions for 28 yards
Toby Gerhart - 553 carries, 3008 yards, 24 catches for 171 yards
Stats are from 2008 and 2009, combined.
I included 2009 to demonstrate that Gerhart was far superior but here is 2008 only:
Minor - 103 carries, 553 yards
Gerhart - 210 carries 1136 yards
Surely Minor was better right?
I never said anything about Harbaugh and his work. You said Minor was better than Gerhart.
You were wrong, again.
i'll take the extra win that Jim gives his anyday why wouldn't you? Plus, he is a Michigan man and can speak wth gramatical correctness. Our helmets HAVE wings damit!
He needs to worry about all the stuff Pryor is saying about him, I mean, Pryor did strip him of his nuts and said he was not a real Buckeye.
The media seems to think they are "helping"Michigan here. They really want to write a "Prodigan Son Returns Home" story.
I am much more disgusted with the people in the Michigan fanbase who want to throw RR under the bus than I am with any national media. The media have only superficial knowlege of what is going on in Ann Arbor and a de facto set of storyline templates they use when they write. "Fans" should know better.
Sam Webb brought up a great point this morning. Harbaugh went 4-8, 5-7, and 7-5 before this year's 10-1 start. To many fans, it is "acceptable" if Harbaugh does it, but UNACCEPTABLE for RR to have almost the exact same record for his first three years at Michigan.
MIght I humbly suggest either the banhammer or a million-point reduction for the next "FRDKRODNOW" thread, whether it is subtly or blatantly stated?
1 Their teams aren't improving year to year.
2 Their players quit on them or don't believe in them.
I don't believe either of these to be the case. I look forward to 2011 for Michigan football and for RR.
Your career is off to a far better start than troyMI10. +1
Let's change the subject: How many pets do you have if all of them are birds except two, all of them are cats except two, and all of them are dogs except two?
3, unless it's Thursday.
Hey good job, how about another.
Water lilies growing in a pond double in area every 24 hours. On the first day of spring, only one water lily pad is on the surface of the pond. Sixty days later, the pond is entirely covered. On what day is the pond half-covered?
slow work day...I figured it out mathematically with logarithms. I suck.
The day before it's completely covered. Yay.
or 2, depending on if it's Hillbilly Monday and dad/uncle Tom gave you a rabbit
when it comes to this kind of thing.
But this is just his opinion.
He doesn't know anything that we don't.
Who is this Hirk Kerbstreit you are speaking of?
BTW, is it just me, or is everyone else on this board sick and tired of this drama? Let's play football boys and kick some Buckeye Ass!
Herb is a Buckeye and so he can give his professional, biased, double standard opinions. I really don't care. I think Spielman is more honest and more legitimate commentator anyway.
Wanted: DC that will play a four man front in the Big Ten and doesn't play with stuffed animals!
His comments in this article are no different than what he said during that Standford game a couple saturdays ago.
Les Miles to Michigan in 07?
..........this year, it isn't any wonder they are a 10 win team this year. I don't think Harbaugh would be an upgrade for us, and with what he has said in the past, I wouldn't even consider him if I was AD.
This shit is getting ridiculous...DB just needs to come out and say that RR is a true Michigan Man and he will be here for a long time. We are on the right track to compete for Big 10 Championships. BAM!
They should clone Desmond and fire Herbstreit for College Gameday. It would make the show a lot better.
Michigan's coach next year.
In other bold statements, I predict the sun will come up tomorrow morning.
I wish this motherscratcher would keep his yap shut about who he thinks will or will not be coaching at Michigan. Now...where's that youtube video of him getting drilled in the 1991 Game.
Oh, yeah. Here it is:
Didn't he predict U.Conn. winning the Big East?
they still can!
Harbaugh in Ann Arbor by next Tuesday to inaugurate the new coaching era after the RR Obama-style fiasco.
...will be divorced by Monday, marry Erin Andrews by Tuesday, and adopt TO by Friday.
He'll bring Erin, TO, and his other four runts on to the GameDay set on Saturday and all have a gas putting on the Brutus mask and smelling Corso's halitosis.
