Help w/cleaning up radio audio of Michigan vs. Florida

Submitted by karpodiem on

So I decided to start recording the radio broadcasts after learning we will probably never have a full broadcast of the Kansas game (would have loved to re-live Matt Shepard's call durin the last two minutes). Eventually these audio recordings will be synced up with the HD network broadcasts so we can have hometeam audio + network video. Look for that this coming football season.

The only problem is that mgoblue.com was linking to the CBS national radio broadcast. I couldn't find an internet stream of the local broadcast. I was forced to record the analog broadcast with line-in audio to my PC. The only problem is that you get the constant buzzing/sound interference typical of analog audio.

Are there any audio gurus out there who might be able to clean up the audio/take the buzzing out? I can cut the commercials out myself, I just need help with taking out the distortion. Here's the .mp3 of the broadcast - https://dl.dropbox.com/u/1308556/Michigan%20vs.%20Florida.mp3

PS - has anyone been able to find an online stream of Matt Shepard calling the game? If so, where?

thanks.

They replayed the call on Burkes shot during the pregame today while I was driving to my Aunts. I almost pulled over I had the biggest chills hearing it.

Open source audio processing software. It has filters for removing noise - you can record a slice of the audio where nothing's going on but the noise, then use that as a filter. You probably won't be able to rid of all of it, though. Also, you need to get rid of the source of that buzz - often that is a grounding problem and if you hook up the HD Radio the same way, you could still have the problem. On your recording, hopefully you recorded it uncompressed or using a lossless codec like flac or something. If it's mp3, pulling it apart, processing it, thrn recompressing it will cost you more fidelity.

I would like to thank the OP for the Florida win with Shep on the mic. I think the sound quality is quite good for OTA. Nice work! I too, was very disappointed when I heard only silence on the WSGW stream and heard national announcers on the Michigan website. Is the Kansas victory available?
