Help Parking From North

Submitted by Fresh Meat on

Gentleman, your assistance please.  My entire life I have gone to Michigan games, but always come from I-94.  We get off at the exit by the Meijer and park in the grove of trees parking lot area next to the church.

However, I now live in Rockford, so I will be coming in on I-96.  Where is good parking coming from the North?  Ideally, I would like to be able to leave the game going north and get back on I-96.  That's really the whole reason for this post.  I know that usually the traffic flows all lanes south towards I-94, which before now suited me just fine.  But now I'd like to park in a place that would still allow me to go up to I-96.  Any help is appreciated because I literally have no idea where to park coming from that way despite going to 2-3 games for the last 10 years.  Thanks.

If you're coming from the north, I suggest you exiting US-23 at Plymouth Rd. Then make your way down towards the parking structure off of division by west quad. After the game you can just jump on division which is one way, and it will lead you right back to Plymouth Rd and back out of town. The parking isn't super close to the stadium, but it isn't a bad hike.

P.S. It is spelled Meijer.

If you liked your tailgating spot from before you could still do that and get on I-94 West and then taking 127 North to I-96 after the game.   It might be a quicker ride home than dealing with US-23.

If you are going to come down US-23 if you are in earlier than the majority of the crowd take the M-14 West exit off of US-23 and then take the Downtown Ann Arbor/Main St. Exit.  Take Main St. until Williams and then take a left and then at Thompson take a right and you will find some parking right by West Quad.

I'd suggest taking US-127 south from Lansing down to I-94 and then east to Ann Arbor. It's 7 miles longer than I-96/US-23, but mostly likely faster because US-23 southbound from Brighton to Ann Arbor is usually miserable on game days. Then you can get into and out of AA via Ann Arbor-Saline Rd like you have in the past and park where you usually do. In my experience, coming and going from the west is so much easier than from the north or northeast.

I come from Grand Rapids.  I used to take I-96 to US-23 to get to the games, but I now take I-96 to US-127 to I-94 to the Ann Arbor - Saline Road exit.  I find this preferable to the US-23 route.

Another option with less traffic would be Pontiac trail to Milford Rd or Kensington Rd to I96.  It would take you a bit out of the way and is not a highway but traffic out of town on Pontiac trail is light.

US 23 is a cluster right now with construction at the US 23 and I96 interchange and a lane shift just south of Brighton. It's still two lanes for both north and south but it's still orange signs with orange barrels so it triggers the typical stupidity amongst drivers. I know because I have to drive it every morning and it sucks on Thursday so Saturday should be just amazing.
