I never understood why dad quit his job as an itinerant Tolkien novel scene painter.

why a '290 van' you ask? in california sex offenders must register pursuant to california penal code section 290. and the only guys who drive those things are what we called '290 regs', meaning guys who sex offender registers.
November 30th, 2015 at 4:33 PM ^
I thought those vans were always just plain white vans..........
November 30th, 2015 at 5:53 PM ^
Yeah, I gues driving that van is a just another way of registering as a sex offender.

Is that Dewey Finn's Van from School of Rock?
November 30th, 2015 at 3:31 PM ^
Not my favorite of what they have worn over the last few years. Still, go navy, beat army. Semper Fidelis.
November 30th, 2015 at 3:34 PM ^
I love them. Very cool to do for the Naval Academy. Wish Army would do something cool like this. Though I couldn't see a grunt or an MRAP on there. Hahah, paint a Bradley, Abrams, Patriot, CRAM, HIMARS, Howitzers, or some birds on it though and I'm down! GO ARMY!
November 30th, 2015 at 3:42 PM ^
Take a heck of a helmet for Army to take the game this year! But this is the game where you can truly say that each player on both sides is a winner.
November 30th, 2015 at 4:33 PM ^
In more ways than one. There's the obvious-- i.e., that they have chosen to represent our country and put their lives on the line in exchange for their schooling. Then there's also the fact that it's incredibly difficult to gain acceptance to either West Point or Annapolis. As in, I dare say harder to get in to than Harvard or Yale; if not, it's damn close. So they're winners in attitude/beliefs, and winners in aptitude as well. Impressive, to say the least.

Go Army! Beat Navy!
I have no ties to either school besides that I always chose to rebuild Army into a powerhouse in the NCAA video games. That being said, I get wayyy wrapped up into this game. Hurts almost as much as the Michigan streak against OSU....
November 30th, 2015 at 3:51 PM ^
Me too, I hate how bad Army has been. If we win I'll be so happy! I, too, enjoy playing as Army in NCAA 14. Presents a really challenging but fun dynasty!
November 30th, 2015 at 3:34 PM ^
That is awesome!
But they could literally put Teletubbies on their helmets and I wouldn't dare say anything bad.

Air craft carriers, subs and destroyers, etc. - different by position group.
Anchors away....
November 30th, 2015 at 3:42 PM ^
Yes. Awesome. I'm not surprised that there is not one Gator Freighter in that picture. The antiquated (and decommissioned) amphib boat I was on would not look quite as nice as those beauties do.
Go Navy! Beat Army!

We had helmets with subs. It was crazy.

I like the summer whites uniform from last year also.mmade to look like the midshipmans summer dress.

Game isn't this weekend, but next. Army-Navy always plays on the Saturday after conference championships (same day as the Heisman Ceremony).

Thanks, updated.
November 30th, 2015 at 3:44 PM ^
hate to see those all dinged up. Still are mediocre compared to ours.
November 30th, 2015 at 3:56 PM ^
Want to keep the faith, but we are gonna need more than a fancy paint job on our helmets to beat the Middies. My suggestion:
November 30th, 2015 at 4:09 PM ^
I'd second that!
November 30th, 2015 at 5:30 PM ^
If you ever wanted to discourage helmet-to-helmet contact or anything that even sniffs of targeting, that would be the way to do it. Surprised more teams don't adopt this in retaliation (or perhaps to mitigate the risk of being flagged) for so many awful calls throughout the season.

Ehh not a fan. Not that anyone asked, just giving my opinion.

Son is in Korea currently. Go Army! Never too early to get hyped for this game.
Beat Navy.

Go Army! Beat Navy!
Almost went to West Point, what a beatiful campus. Other than that I have no ties, would just love to see Army be respectable again.
November 30th, 2015 at 4:35 PM ^
Did you go for a commission anywhere else?
November 30th, 2015 at 5:14 PM ^
Nope, just West Point. Not sure why I didn't at least explore the other academies, just didn't.
November 30th, 2015 at 5:23 PM ^
Gotcha!

My brother in law was the CO of a destroyer and served on multiple other ships in his Navy career. Really cool visiting his ship. Unfortunately the tiger cruise I was supposed to go on was canceled.

Those are the coolest looking uniforms I remember seeing in my lifetime! Now, I really like UM's unis, but these are sweet! I would love to see Army match them.
November 30th, 2015 at 4:52 PM ^
Dang it... I was hoping they would be rocking these:

Any USNA grads on mgoblog?
Love these new helmets, they need to paint aircraft on some though.
November 30th, 2015 at 9:35 PM ^
There are a couple of USAFA grads here, haven't run across any squids or grunts here off the top of my head, but there are Army and Navy vets.
November 30th, 2015 at 11:00 PM ^
Met a USAFA grad after the Penn State game who was a blue fan, right before we got to meet Harbaugh, Butt, Peppers, and O'Neil by the team bus. I'd embed pics if I knew how.
Cool story bro: we were next to Jake Butts family and it was cool to hear Jake tell his perspective of the game, he said the PSU players were playing dirty (someone punched him in the liver after a tackle). Met the Kali's family too, nice people.

Hopefully Monken can get this team turned around. This year (as most have been lately) was painful to watch.

but the fans in the stands and the TV audience won't be able to discern the details unless they're within 5 yards.
November 30th, 2015 at 8:12 PM ^
Uncle Rico would be proud to wear that helmet. If one he had it that one time at state...
November 30th, 2015 at 8:38 PM ^
Beat Army!!
November 30th, 2015 at 8:50 PM ^
It wasn't always that way.
I remember watching Gordie Lockbaum and Holy Cross play West Point in Michie Stadium. I looked down at the Army team and staff on the sideline - everyone was in white, black, a bit of gold, and gray - lots and lots of gray. At that moment I wondered if Holy Cross looked across the field and realized they were essentially playing the Federal Government?
November 30th, 2015 at 10:56 PM ^
Agreed. Much respect to West Point, but their gray uniforms say government big time.
