Helmet Stickers:Yes or No
Just wondering what the board's opinion on this is. I'm pretty young so I've never known Michigan with helmet stickers, but after looking at some pictures they look kinda cool. I wouldn't mind either way but maybe they will motivate our players.
If we do get stickers, I'd like them to be block Ms, maybe that would look neater and less crowded.

IF Hoke does want them, they need to be a lot more subtle than the old ones.

I prefer the clean look of the maize wings on the blue helmet. It works for other teams but I'm not a fan of it for Michigan.
January 23rd, 2011 at 7:46 PM ^
No, thanks. I would like to take all of the stickers off of our helmets and just have the blue with maize wings (I'm pro tiny American flag on the back).
I prefer focusing on the most powerful points of a design and keeping the rest of it simple. Less seems to be more in this case, for me. Emphasize the wings.
EDIT: Unless you'd like to see these:

Well I think we have a new helmet right here... Maybe a nice alternative jersey with Wolverine claw marks all over..
January 23rd, 2011 at 8:00 PM ^
Too "juggalo". Maybe something with a better color scheme....
And we don't need claw marks on our uni's....we'll be the ones putting them on OTHER team's uni's.
Though I'm ok with new gloves from Adidas...
(Still, original helmet pic post, very cool)

Little known fact: It's actually the original helmet design proposed by Fritz Crisler.
He had to go with wings after then M President Alexander Grant Ruthven expressed his displeasure with having Hugh Jackman on the helmet because "Australia was such a shitty movie that I don't want to be reminded of it when I watch us play."
January 23rd, 2011 at 8:11 PM ^
How did he get Princeton to accept it?!? The man truly was a master....
January 23rd, 2011 at 9:23 PM ^
I heard Crisler ripped off the design from Delaware.
January 23rd, 2011 at 9:39 PM ^
How dare you say something like that.

Fritz Crisler designed the helmets so the QB could see the receivers better.

You really don't understand sarcasm do you?
January 23rd, 2011 at 8:14 PM ^
Alternate Jerseys. I like seeing the same blue on maize combo every saturday. And we don't really have a ton of colors to work with. No fashion show just football.
January 23rd, 2011 at 7:44 PM ^
Emphatically no. If you want to reward a player with a sticker, give him a plaque at the end of the year with the stickers he earned. Leave the helmet free of the distraction they cause on the eyes. The helmet is the best in all of College leave it alone.
January 23rd, 2011 at 7:48 PM ^
That's kind of a cool idea, if executed correctly. I've always (ashamed, for sure) been a little jealous of the gold pants tradition at tsio. I wish we had a cool tradition commemorating our victories in The Game.

NNNNNNNNNNOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
sorry,i just hate when you add something to your helmet. This isnt OSU were we have to add stickers and sparkles to our helmets.
January 23rd, 2011 at 7:45 PM ^
No because helmet stickers only passable on less complex helmets like OSU's or Georgia's. Plus those wolverine heads are just too big. I do like what Georgia does with it's bones though. White for athletics and black bones for academic. Sparty give's an "S" for every week not in jail.
I would never be 100% for it but if they were just small block "M"s instead of those massive stickers it might be at least tolerable.
January 23rd, 2011 at 7:50 PM ^
I have always wondered why some of the bones were black. I assumed it was for really good plays or TDs. Thanks for clearly something up that I could never remeber to google. +1
January 23rd, 2011 at 8:11 PM ^
Thanks, just more of the useless knowledge I carry!
There is a school out there just gives them away for academics only. I want to say it's Vanderbilt but I might be wrong.
January 23rd, 2011 at 8:09 PM ^
haha, love the sparty comment.
January 23rd, 2011 at 8:10 PM ^
I'm sure this has been on here before but here is a quick Wikipedia list on helmet stickers. Fresno has three different colors and like Georgia Florida State recognizes academic achievements as well which is something I really like since they are student athletes.
January 23rd, 2011 at 9:45 PM ^
Ahh, no wonder I rarely see any black bones.
January 23rd, 2011 at 7:46 PM ^
I like them but they would definitely have to be block M's like you said
January 23rd, 2011 at 7:46 PM ^
wolverine pheremones...
January 23rd, 2011 at 7:46 PM ^
No, but it wouldn't entirely piss me off as long as they're smaller than the ones pictured above.
January 23rd, 2011 at 7:47 PM ^
No. We have the best helmets in The League. You don't mess with perfection.

TBF, Schembechler and his staff at Miami invented the helmet sticker idea. It may not look great but there's an undeniable connection between Michigan and helmet stickers.
January 23rd, 2011 at 8:39 PM ^
True, but people also forget that we are the first to do the "Script O-H-I-O".
January 23rd, 2011 at 7:47 PM ^
I think the stickers go against the belief that everything is about the team. No player or coach is more important than the team. I heard that is why coach Carr stopped using helmet stickers. They werent what the University of Michigan football program stood for.
January 23rd, 2011 at 8:16 PM ^
Yeah, I think they make it about it about individual achievement and tend to separate the stars from everyone else.
January 23rd, 2011 at 8:33 PM ^
Give them out on a per unit basis! Promotes unity in each phase of the game. Also, if it was good enough for Bo its good enough for me.
January 23rd, 2011 at 7:47 PM ^
No stickers
January 23rd, 2011 at 7:47 PM ^
I am a yes, but only because they wore them when I was an undergrad. (Desmond Howard, baby!) However, this not something I care a great deal about. It seems that people who are anti-stickers care a lot more about this than those of us who want them. Hoke should probably just forget about it and avoid the drama.
January 23rd, 2011 at 7:48 PM ^
Absolutely no way.
January 23rd, 2011 at 7:50 PM ^
It was pretty nice to see a brace from Torres yesterday!

January 23rd, 2011 at 7:50 PM ^
I'd be fine with them, but I'd like them a lot better if they were redesigned a little bit. Maybe more like the stanford helmet stickers.
January 23rd, 2011 at 7:50 PM ^
Yes, absolutely! They raise the level of competition.
Arguing about aesthetics is a moot point. Stickers aren't meant to make the helmet look better or worse, they are used to reward performance. Players would benefit from that extra bit of competition.
January 23rd, 2011 at 8:26 PM ^
Practice hard to compete to be a starter. Play hard to help your team win. Sluff off and you don't get to wear the helmet at all. If you need stickers to compete, I don't know how you belong on the team.
Competing against the other team brings its own rewards.
January 23rd, 2011 at 9:21 PM ^
the way they give gold stars to elementary school children?
January 23rd, 2011 at 7:51 PM ^
I've always liked them, regardless of what school has the stickers on their helmet. I would certainly like to see it come back and I never felt it clashed with the winged helmet. If it doesn't, though, I won't be too distraught. The re-emergence of a pro-style offense will be enough for me to enjoy for a while.
January 23rd, 2011 at 7:52 PM ^
At all.
January 23rd, 2011 at 7:52 PM ^
If Hoke brings them back, hopefully the stickers are a little smaller.
January 23rd, 2011 at 7:53 PM ^
I personally would rather keep the helmet the way it is now but won't freak out if Hoke decides to bring them back. If they were smaller I don't think it would be that bad.
January 23rd, 2011 at 7:53 PM ^
The stickers look good on some of the more plain helmets but not on helmets with wings. No stickers please!
