Helmet Stickers Might Be Back
I don't know what it says because it is behind a paywall but the title probably says it all.
Not a fan of the stickers, although it's likely just a headline to get clicks.
Some dude heard from some guy on the team that former players have been suggesting that Hoke should bring them back. Further rumor is that Hoke's leaving the decision up to the team.
My best friend's sister's boyfriend's brother's girlfriend heard from this guy who knows this kid who's going with the girl who saw Ferris pass out at 31 Flavors last night. I guess it's pretty serious.
I vote no. Now if someone could tell me where to submit my ballot.
and I'll show ya".
I love Clark W. Griswold.
"How dare you talk to me like that!"
"I wasn't talking to you..."
Clark is the man for sure.
Anyone who is an expert in the field of non-nutrative cereal varnish is definitely properly considered as being "the man" - no doubt about it!
Nothing but clutter for America's best helmets. You can't improve perfection.
This. The helmets are already fantastic, and I like that they're uniform. I don't like when all of the helmets look different b/c of varying numbers of stickers. Plus, Denard would need like fourteen helmets.
Is an outstanding and extremely overlooked problem with bringing back helmet stickers. Good call.
Don't mess with the best
and big hair.
If the team wants them back, I'm all for it. The decision should be up to them. Nothiing like a little extra motivation!
Who cares either way. The thing that truly matters is the team's performance. Personally I'd like to see them. Maybe a small maize block M or something along those lines
Man I'm already dreading explaining to any osu fan born after 1985 that we are not copying them. I like them the way they are now.
...although I'd like to see a simple 'Block M' inside a football-shaped decal, as opposed to the old football-shaped stickers, which featured an almost unrecognizable wolverine head.
I'm in favor.
I think a simple maize block M sticker would suffice. They would stand out really well on the blue sides of the helmet, and wouldn't mess with the sleek beauty of the wings as much.
I hope we get stickers. I've wanted them ever since I saw the teams that did. I wouldn't mind a wolverine paw. Or like previously mentioned a block M in a circle
Fashionably, I am opposed to interupting such a perfect look as our helmets. But on the other hand, shouldn't we take back one of the best known college football traditions? Bo pioneered the helmet sticker at Miami and continued it at Michigan. Woody kind of, you know, stole it for OSU and now they may be the best known for it. Perhaps it is time to re-claim what the quinticential Michigan Man started? I just hate to see OSU run away with it un-opposed.
*quintessential...
after all these posts about the helmet surveys showing UM as an almost-universal #1 in all its dramatic simplicity, and comments that separate rankings for OSU's helmet by moving it up without stickers and down with the clutter. Not to betray my feelings about the matter...
I vote to keep them the same. I don't mind helmet stickers on a helmet like OSU because it is so plain to begin with, but ours is perfect as it is IMHE.
torn. I rmember when Brandy, Leach, AC, Huck and the boys all had these, and they did look cool. But now, the simple perfection of a helmet is awesome too.
Count me in as abstaining.
This is like arguing over Gold or Platinum...both are cool.
best helmet in football
Top ones
best helmet in football with crap all over it.
I know that Bo brought these, but never understood how Michigan always emphasized "The Team, the team, the team" and yet put individual stickers on players helmets. They win as a team, they lose asa a team, and through it all, should all wear the great UofM helmet without the indiviual clutter.
it should come down to the team obviously but helmet stickers look plain bad. They don't even look that good and osu and thats there thing at this point, the only eh helmet stickers are fsu, everything else just makes helmets look cluttered and the beginning of the season is terrible when there are like 3 stickers
i just watched "the team, the team, the team" the other night. "now, lets give out some individual awards"
..."for doing something positive for the team". It could be as simple as a practice guy giving a good look on demo offense or defense.
With Bo, the stickers would actually go to the entire side of the ball for something like getting a 3 and out.
If they're going to do it, I hope it's the wolverine stickers of yore.
Personally, I like 'em, and seeing Denard with a helmet full of stickers is just more of a Desmond throwback for me. Bring it on.
I always thought that the stickers make the helmet even better looking from a distance. I'd like to see them again.
I always loved helmet stickers as a young kid. That was back when information about U-M was somewhat limited and the team was only on TV once or twice per year. The stickers allowed you to easily identify who the best players were.
I grew up watching stickers too and I'd kind of like to see them again as a reminder of the Bo era. If they were originally Bo's idea and Woody ripped him off, all the more reason.
I've said it before, and I'll say it again: only little girls and Buckeyes play with stickers.
Amen x1000
Is there a difference between the two?
So you're saying that Bo Schembechler was a little girl.
but I never liked the stickers. And I think it's ok to disagree with some of the things that Bo did.
and to the guy who said "extra motivation"...uh...no, not so much. if you need to motivate yourself by setting a goal of obtaining a pretty little sticker then football probably isn't your sport or you play for the suckeyes. i do realize teams use them, but honestly I don't think the players really give a crap. Plus, they look retarded.
So things like "bulletin board material" extra big games, MVP awards, weight room awards, all mean nothing?
Posts like this always pop up on message boards where message board guys think they know all about what PLAYERS like or use for motivation.
I think the stickers, or anything else coaches use are good things. I don't know what it's like to get my arse kicked all around a football field seven days a week for four years, but getting rewarded for my efforts with a noticeable thing like a helmet sticker might just help a bit.
I also don't see where this is such and "individual" thing. Competition, remember? Players who get hyped up because maybe someone who's usually anonymous gets one. I mean, the better the team and effort, the more these things go out.
And from someone who was younger when these things were in fashion, there weren't any cries about them being "retarded" back then.
People need to quit being so stodgy. If the players want them, Hoke should do it!
And how many people were so upset when Turdriguez took the wings off the helmets of players he didn't think were putting out the effort he wanted? Were people complaining about degrading the helmet then?
Ornery, I was surprised at how well your post was going... and then you threw in the "Turdriguez" comment.
