Pretty pumped about this. From the write up that Dylan did, it looks like his stock will be on the rise. Expect him to be around a top 50-75ish player when all is said and done.

I think Coach B is doing things the right way. He's starting to get guys who are high level talents, but who are not one and dones. That way, when they're juniors, you get a team of high level and experienced players that has borderline NBA ability. That's how you win national championships or come very close - see e.g. Butler, Florida, some Duke teams.

Plus, when you recruit a lot of the top-10 guys, you are just asking for problems with handlers, NCAA violations, etc. I don't think UM is really in the place to get top-10 guys yet, but even when we are, I don't think we should go there unless it's clear that they won't bring baggage that could lead to NCAA issues. I really really trust Beilein on this front since he's obviously a very ethical coach.

This is exactly the way I like college teams to be built.  That being said I wouldn't complain if we pulled in a top 10 guy, but I think on the whole, a team of solid 4 year guys (maybe the occasional leave for the pros a year early guy) is the best way to build a team.

We have a couple of 6'7 athletic wing guys who can shoot in 2012-13 classes. So much for being an undersized team. With Belein's ability to develop talent Im confident we will be fighting for a B1G title in the VERY near future

You know, I understand the obsession with McGary, but he's a long shot at best. By the time he's ready to make his decision, will there even be a scholarship available? Sherron Dorsey-Walker supposedly will be deciding in the next week or so, plus Derrick Walton Jr. may be making a decision in August as well. I think there's a pretty good chance Walton picks Michigan. Securing a point guard has to be a high priority—and the scholarships are at a premium now.

It has been consistently stated on both Rivals and UMHoops that McGary is not as much of a long-shot as it may seem. He plays with Glenn Robinson III in AAU ball and knew Zach Novak growing up in Chesterton, IN. Add to that the fact that Beilein has now put guys in the NBA two years in a row, and that Coach B is highly respected in coaching circles for his ablity to develop talent, and you've got a good shot. Multiple NBA players are trusting in Beilein to get their offspring to the NBA. That says a lot.

I guess it depends on what your definition of "long shot" is. I've read plenty about McGary and have heard Sam Webb express more optimism about Michigan's chances. Just because those chances have improved, doesn't mean McGary isn't still a long shot. Bottom line: The next Michigan basketball commit is likely to be either Dorsey-Walker or one of the 2013 point guards (not Monte Morris, however, as it appears he's in no hurry to make a decision). By the way, I have complete faith in the ability of Beilein and his staff to develop NBA-ready players, but those two guys you mention--Harris and Morris--aren't big men.

Right now Michigan actually has one more player than spots available for 2013, but this will chance and a couple of spots will open up. THJ could leave for the NBA after his junior year Mitch could be one and done, so if he did commit he would only use a scholarship from 2012 (one available) and not affect 2013 Blake McLimans could not be asked back for a fifth year Some other player could either get pissed about playing time and transfer or have a breakout year and jump to the NBA (Ex: Darius Morris) This is my least favorite scenario but sadly a possibility, if Austin Hatch would not be able to use the basketball scholarship.

Can someone juxtapose JB vs Tom izzo's in terms of recruiting philosophy? I won't compare JB to the legendary angry elf from EL but after the wheels fell off the Sparty wagon last year I was wondering if the Tom Izzo business model is going sputtering. Seems like he relies heavily on Flint and Detroit for obvious top rated talent for his key players which are not turning out as many top quality players anymore. JB on the other hand seems to eye great players before they are on the radar and isn't overly focused on in state. I see major character differences but I'm probably being biased.
