with their pads on?
I did not make this headline up
with their pads on?
You never know. Back in the day, Chris Johnson was only rated a two star, and he wound up being a 4.2 guy.
4.2 af the NFL combine is very different from 4.2 as a senior in high school.
You're right. Rivals had him timed at a 4.3 in 2003.
Let me preface this by saying I hope you're right, and Da'Mario Jones is a legit 4.4 as you're suggesting. That said, my entire point was that Rivals 40 reports do not seem that accurate compared to lets say an electronically run 40 at something like The Open. The number I'm skeptical about (Da'Mario Jone's 4.4) is the number reported by Rivals, just as Chris Johnson's highschool time of 4.3 compared to his NFL Combine time of 4.2 suggests he probably had a worse high school 40 time than the reported 4.3. You would think Chris Johnson got more than .1 seconds faster in the 40 over 4 years in college, as most players do. Thus, if his 4.2 NFL time is accurate, isnt it possible his real 40 in high school was more like 4.5 and Rivals was a bit inaccurate in its report of a 4.3?
Either way, I truly hope Da'Mario is a legitimate 4.4 and just burns everybody the second he gets on campus, but I can't help but be a little skeptical.
We've recruited 2 WR's in the last 2 years.
1 is a 4-star. I think our WR recruiting shows "we haven't done it".
Lets also see how we finish this class, and where Duke/York end up?
In general I agree with you - we want to have elite WR prospects. Elite anything prospects.
Because guys like Eric Page and other MAC, Sun Belt guys have never been able to run 4.4's. I guess someone should go tell Benard Reedy he needs to slow down because he's not allowed to run faster then 4.6
According to Sam Webb our coaches were very impressed with his speed when he camped at Michigan and considered him a potential deep threat type of receiver.
He is a raw talent with great atheleticism and could play defense as well. Right now it looks like he is being recruited as a (much needed) receiver... but you can never have too many corners.
That's going to get a high number of fakes from Ace I think...
A Tom VH article on ESPN Insider a few weeks ago noted he recently transferred from a school in Jersey and that may be why he's been overlooked.
Those numbers are pretty ridonculous if not FAKE.
4 out of 5 fakes after watching tape. Still looks like a nice prospect though.
This offer and commit could also be the result of the staff saying good-bye to Dawson.
with all the talk about possible decommitments for the last while, Da'Mario Jones sounds like someone who wants to play at Michigan, welcome aboard young man.
Did you reason that he sounds like someone who wants to play at Michigan because he just commited to play for Michigan or for some other reason?
Well actually I got that from all the visits he was taking to Michigan while not having an offer... I even made a comment on the board that I am expecting him to be a part of this class... so needless to say, I was not shocked when I saw this thread.
I think you sound like a guy who likes to post comments on a Michigan blog.
I am not sure if you will believe me, but I also watch Michigan games and cheer for Michigan. I hope this revelation is not overly shocking...
He's responding to the post you responded to, not your post. Look at the indentation to see which post is being replied to.
I think you sound like a guy who pays attention to indentions.
You sound like a guy who makes remarks about whether or not people pay attention to response indentations
Just because I often get lost inside my house, it doesn't mean that I am a confused human being.
Uh, no. We don't need depth. We have plenty of dudes. We need superstar playmakers. There's a big, big difference.
Think the last JG Rocket to get a scholarship was Toney Boles.
So let me get this straight. Goodbye top 5 class because we lose(potentially) a 3 star in Conley and replace him with a 3 star in Jones?
Welcome to Michigan. Excited to see what you can do.
His routes in high school seem to consist of, "just run down the field, you're bigger than everyone else".
The trick is figuring out what to do when that no longer works.
I'll take that. Found this hudl link that worked:
Looks more like a guy that could have waited until closer to signing day to me, but welcome aboard nonetheless
Look what I found, another commit!
Who said what? What happened?
/not good at biology
Wow, just wow.
i dont mind this. not one bit
Another great under the national recruiting radar pick up. The coaching staff def knows how to evaluate talent. Recruits can decommit but the coaching staff always have a back up plan. Trust in Hoke!
Da'Mario is a seriously good athelete. Welcome aboard. We definetly need playmakers.
After watching his senior film he reminds me of Devin Thomas from MSU a couple years back. Give Da'Mario some time to develop and he will be a player.
I'm suffering whiplash from not being properly buckled.
Congrats and welcome to the greatest university on earth.
Welcome. Now get ready to earn the #1 jersey, it's waiting for you
In three years, Michigan's offense is going to look a ton like what Penn State's offense looks like this year, but with Shane Morris replacing Matt McGloin. In other words, tons of four yard carries and 7 yard completions to "posession" receivers.
Combine that with an elite defense (likely) and you have Bama/LSU the last five years. Doesn't exactly piss me off.
Can't say it would piss me off either. But dang, we are shaping up to be a seriously boring football team to watch. I'm having visions of 1998, which is when we beat Iowa, NW, and Minny by respective scores of 12-9, 12-6, and 15-10.
Or Michigan 1997.
First, welcome aboard Da'Mario Jones.
Second, nice to change the narrative a little bit with the decommit/potential for one talk.
Third, awesome name.
Point taken. Kinda reminds me of MSU's wide outs the last couple years.
Honestly, I wonder if this has anything to do with the weird tendency for wide receivers to have a diva side to their personalities and a possible lack of mutual interest between more diva-like prospects and Michigan football (where the style of our current coaches and program is more down-to-earth than flashy).
Regardless... welcome, Da'Mario.
Braylon only had 3* level offers. Arrington only had a few BCS level offers. Justin Blackmon was only a 3 star. Stars aren't everything with Receivers
Looks like a good jump-ball receiver. Junior Hemmingway wasn't a speedster but he could win any jump-ball catch. I'll take another one of those. Thank you very much.
Fine, I'll call him super Mario
