Hello: Trey Miller (baseball)

The latest in a string of Michigan baseball commits for 2013 is Trey Miller, a 6-0, 170-pound shortstop out of Lexington Catholic H.S. in Lexington, Kentucky. Here's one of the tweets announcing his commitment:

About the only scouting-type info I could find on Miller was this brief item from a recent Prep Baseball Report post titled Top 15 Uncommitted Players from Midwest Baseball Classic:

True shortstops seem to get more scarce by the week, but the 6-foot, 170-pound Miller showed that he has the feet and arm strength to do it. Aside from all the actiony things he does with his hands, Miller showcases an unquantifiable energy in his legs and feet as he played through the ball.

It seems that he also has some speed on the base paths, given this:

Bakich has done a really nice job coming in and not wasting any time securing kids for the 2013 class. He is supposedly a great evaluator of talent, so hopefully that will translate to wins on the field shortly.

I coach high school baseball and have a 2013 kid that is verbally committed to a BIG 12 school, but has started having second thoughts. Coach Bakich had talked with him a few times while still at Maryland, so I kind of hoped deep down that when Bakich was hired at UM that my player would look at the school a little closer. Unfortunately he grew up with Ohio blinders on, so he won't even consider giving them look...that, and he really wants to pitch in a more reputable conference than what the B1G currently offers.

Non-paywalled baseball rankings are hard to come by. There are some rankings by state that I've found, including Prep Baseball Report's Michigan top 10 for 2013, which includes these three Michigan commits:

  • 1. Jackson Lamb
  • 3. Brett Adcock
  • 5. T.J. Shook

Lamb committed under Bakich; Adcock and Shook committed under Maloney.

There's also Michigan Baseball Prospects' 2013 rankings, which show the following Michigan commits:

  • 1. Jackson Lamb
  • 10. Brett Adcock
  • 15. T.J. Shook
  • 25. Harrison Wenson
  • 26. Carmen Benedetti

Wenson and Benedetti also committed under Maloney. I don't know if those players are all still Michigan commits.

Prep Baseball Report has another Bakich commit, Nick Kowalczuk, ranked #14 in Illinois's 2013 class.

I have a very good friend of mine whose son is a big time 1B out here, the kid made it to the top 38 out of 700 players last year in the under-16 National Team that was put together in North Carolina, he woulda made the final 20 squad had he not been playing with an ailing hamstring the whole time.

This kid is a special talent and has been compared to Adrian Gonzalez, does anyone know how to get the contact info of Coach Bakich? My buddy wants to send him some info on his son and would consider going to U-M.

BTW, he goes to a prep school that is a powerhouse in baseball as his team won the championship out here this year, he's the kind of young man you would want your daughter to marry, he excels in the class room and would be a great citizen in Ann Arbor.

Bakich's e-mail address is on the coaching staff page at mgoblue.com: ebakich@umich.edu. But one of his assistants, Nick Schnabel (nischnab@umich.edu), is the recruiting coordinator, so maybe your buddy should start with him.
