Hello: Ricky Leach

Submitted by mGrowOld on

A dual threat player - Leach is planning on playing both Football and Baseball for the Wolverines.  Leach was actually born in Ann Arbor so he knows the campus well and is expected (hoped?) to contribute right away.   He attended Flint Southwestern High School in Flint, Michigan where he was selected as the first-team all-state quarterback by the Detroit Free Press in 1975.  He broke every passing record in the Saginaw Valley League and was also an all-conference player in baseball and basketball.

FYI I just found this on line but I think this must be a picture of Coach Harbaugh demonstrating the proper form for taking a ball under center to Ricky during one of the many camps he attended here prior to committing.

Welcome Ricky!

That Jim Harbaugh, at it again pretending to be a teenage ball boy.

Pete Thamel is right.  This is the kind of antics that will get him fired after going 10-2 next year.

Yes, there is a point to every post...there is no such thing as a stupid post. Now orange slices for everyone.

I hope he can.  Even though they still have Bob Owchinko & Bob Welch, maybe we can finally get past EMU and into the College World Series.

Someone posted the Luke Schoonmaker Hello post a full 12 hours after he committed AND after it was on the front page.

This is mGrowOld's attempt at humor. I found it rather lame but it appears to have made a few people chuckle and apparently it was the worst thing you could do to BrownViper.

Ohhhhhh, I'm dying.     I am sitting in a class enclosed conference room with actual customers in our waiting area, and I need to keep myself under control.   They must be wondering what the hell is so funny.   Classic.

Obviously they played for different schools in college, but I always think of Leach & Kirk Gibson together.

Born in the same month (May 1957), attended HS within 30 miles of each other (Waterford Kettering and Flint Southwestern), both All-Americans in both baseball & football, both were a 1st-round pick in the MLB draft while also being chosen in the NFL draft, both chose baseball over football, and both debuted in MLB with the Detroit Tigers.

Unlucky for Leach, one difference is they weren't both around for the magical ride in 1984.  He was the one who had to be cut to make room for Willie Hernandez and Dave Bergman (RIP) in the infamous trade in late March.

Did I step into a time warp??  Maybe a different title would be appropriate.  "Hello from the past?"

That aside, Rick Leach was the first Michigan QB I remember as a child.  Gritty leader.

I hate these dilemmas.

I was 3/4 of the way to canning the Schoonmaker post because of its tardiness, but then this thread would make zero sense and no longer be funny, so it is one of those situations where the not-so-well received thread has to stay to provide lift to the thread which came after it.

The mod game is weird sometimes.

I figured BrownViper was replying to an even more inflammatory post that got caved since that does happen from time to time.

Nonetheless, can the mods please cave his post anyways?  Since people spouting slurs on the MGoForum really isn't the best look.
