Reon Dawson is a WOLVERINE. He just committed to Michigan. Story coming on http://Scout.com

OH DB Reon Dawson has committed to Michigan. The former Illinois commit was planning on calling both coaching staffs Wednesday.  I dunno what changed that, this just came across my twitter feed. I hope it's not a journalist ruining a kid's moment, but I don't actually have a scout subscription, so we'll see what news comes out from here.

Welcome Reon, and Go Blue

EDIT: Confirmed by TomVH

Michigan picks up commit No. 26: http://insider.espn.go.com/insider/michigan/forums/_/the-den#!/topic/1358216850-882-457

Get used to the idea that shorthand, internet slang (or sloppy grammar, spelling, syntax, etc) is neither necessary nor warmly embraced on this board.  Gripe if you will, but it helps clean up some of the cyber-detritus that otherwise litters the Internet.

This is a fairly erudite cohort here on this board, and that (along with rampant UM homerism) is one reason I read here so much.  I am not a UM student or graduate, just a lifelong fan since the Wangler/AC/Bo days.  I do, however, possess BS and Master's degrees; hence, I value reading posts that don't make my head hurt.

As you can imagine, our friends in Champaign-Urbana are none too happy tonight.....

Some quotes taken from their boards;

"A lot of our recruits would probably switch if Michigan offered them a ride..."

"THIS IS WHAT HAPPENS WHEN YOU ARE A LOSING TEAM UP AGAINST A PERENNIAL POWER HOUSE."

"And i am damn sick and tired of seeing this crap. we have to work our butt off to get a good player to come here. All Michigan has to do is offer a player and they commit. It is really sad and pretty unfair when you think about it."

"Yea I'd pick Michigan over Illinois any day of the week if I was a hs kid."

"Him picking Michigan had NOTHING to do with the partying. They're michigan, were Illinois. It's not a tough decision for a recruit really...we won't be winning any of those battles anytime soon."

"Like it or not, Michigan has earned the right to be able to offer and get whoever they want, they have won so many games, that's the way it is. It isn't unfair, Michign has worked hard to be where they are, they have played great football for a century and it shows."

"I love Illinois, it was the right school for me when I needed my college education, but if I was a football player and I had the choice between Illinois and Michigan, the choice is simple after just going to a 1 game at each place."

I hate to say it, but the analogy to be made here to the recruiting battles between Michigan and Ohio is both sad and apropo.  Michigan's lost out on so many recruits to Ohio over the last several years, and my general feeling each time it happens is: "Can anyone really be surprised?"  I mean, many of these kids are going to the "perennial powerhouse," and that's been Ohio, not Michigan.

Here's to hoping the tide turns...

Without looking it up, there may be 10 kids who Michigan has landed that had OSU offers in the last two classes. The people who bitch abut back to back top 5 recruiting classes is unreal.

Edit: I actually counted. 18 kids with an OSU offer. Really struggling.

Hmm, Henry Poggi, Mike McCray, Dymonte Thomas, Kile Kalis, Tom Stroebel, James Ross, Terry Richardson, Shane Morris, Chris Wormley, Ben Gedeon, Michael Ferns, David Dawson, DeVeon Smith, Logan Tuley-Tillman, Chris Fox, Devin Gardner, Ondre Pipkins and hopefully Derrick Green if I'm not mistaken all held/hold Ohio offers...

Best wishes to you, and welcome to the Blue.  See you at The Big House.

And I don't know what's not to like about this kid.  He's big, fast, and looks like he's got pretty good feet and hips.  He may not be a finished product yet, but how many freshmen are?

We're blessed to have him.  GO BLUE!

McDowell is supposedly a ways off from making a decision.  He seems strongly interested in Notre Dame, Michigan State, and Michigan.  He visited Michigan a couple times during the season, and there hasn't been much of an opportunity to visit Ann Arbor here in January, so I wouldn't be too concerned.  There's still a long way to go.
