Hello Prince Holloway soon?

Submitted by MHNet on

Josh Helmholdt's latest article is on Florida slot receiver Prince Holloway.  Here's the print version.

Helmholdt says that Holloway has already decided to commit to Michigan, just waiting for the right time to inform the coaches.

“Dallas (Crawford) is my cousin and for a month we planned on committing to Michigan,” Holloway said.

I love the pipeline too, but I also think we don't need another slot.  Taking a look at the depth chart posted on this site, I prefer only OL/TE and possibly one QB on the offensive side of the ball from here on out.  Defensively, LB's we really need, and another 1/2 DT's would be nice.  AND, I'd love it if we took two kickers.

Just my sixty nine cents.

Obviously not a need, but I am starting to feel that its important to just have kids on the team who want to be at Michigan, whether becaues of family or the school. You never know what will happen with transfers and injuries. If he wants to be here I will gladly take him!

Despite my comment on the Raymon Taylor thread yesterday, it seems unlikely that we'd take him. We're pretty stocked at slot, and we already have a commitment from  Justice this year.

..Someone had to ask. Scout Profile:

Holloway possesses elite speed and quickness, he has the ability to just blow past defenders. He has been used mainly as a downfield threat and a player to get the ball to in space, but is improving as a route runner. He plays the game with swagger and confidence showing outstanding competitiveness. He lacks ideal height which hurts him as a blocker. He could play CB at the next level. -Geoff Vogt, Florida Recruiting Analyst

Still...we've got three CB commits, with three more potentially (MI CB Raymon Taylor, MD CB Blake Countess, and PA DB Kyshoen Jarrett) in the mix now.

I more or less meant it as sarcasm. If he comes I would rather have him stick to what he knows. Especially, considering that, we have those other guys in the mix. Personally, I wouldn't mind trading Prince for you know a 4*-5* Linebacker, but beggers cant be choosers. Also, your avatar is way too pimp. Easily one of my top 5 favorites.

The more recruits, the better, IMO. I think any new recruits will reflect positively on the team and the program given the "situation" we have right now.

I know a lot of you will agree when I say I hate looking at our recruiting class and seeing such a low number of commitments, not only because it seems to be holding us back in the recruiting class "rankings" (arbitrary), but because it seems to say there may be something about us that is making kids apprehensive.

Hell, I could just be overreacting, but it still bothers me. I hope we land this kid, regardless, since he seems to want to be a Wolverine (and that's always a positive).

Jesus Christ guys, he can probably be switched to DB. He is a kid who wants to come to Michigan that the coaches thought well enough to offer. Stop giving these kids shit because you are too stupid to realize high school kids can switch positions. Charles Woodson was a high school running back.

Let's backtrack here for a moment. Just because he CAN play corner, doesn't mean he will. Through the whole process, we've been recruiting him as a SR. Quite frankly, if we accept his commitment that would mean we would have 7 slots on the roster next year. 7! I'm not desparaging this kid's character or desire to play for Michigan, those two have both been very definite through the process, but I'm not certain that the coaches are going to spend a scholarship on ANOTHER slot receiver. It isn't even my personaly preference, I think it'd be great to have a fast kid who clearly loves Michigan, I just don't think the coaches will.

Right, however, things can happen (a la Roundtree moving to the outside from slot) -- and Hayes, depending on what Hart does, may wind up at RB.  And you don't know what will happen with injuries, transfers, etc.  I like him -- he has speed and can contribute -- even a redshirt with potential move to CB.

Not sure why you are getting negged for some of your comments, but top speed and versatility is nice.  He can play either WR/DB and may allow us to move someone over to safety in case we strike out with Lyons and Walls.  Not sure if this is true, I think I may have read it on here in the comments section, so take it for what it is worth, that Walls might be slient commit to Oregon.  I hope not.

Why would Roundtree move to WR from the SR position?  Our top three WRs are returning next year.

And even if Hayes does end up at running back, we still have a glut of slot receivers.  Hell, we had a couple highly touted guys who barely saw the field on offense (Gallon and Terrence Robinson), not to mention guys like Kelvin Grady and Drew Dileo, who is serviceable but wasn't heavily recruited.

I agree with DGDestroys.  Holloway would be a luxury, and we don't necessarily have room for luxuries right now.  We need to get a QB, a couple OL, a couple DL, a safety or two, and another one or two linebackers.

Yes.  But if you look back (not that you will/should) at my comments at the time, I liked Adrian Witty's skill set.  I would have wanted him, anyway, and we needed cornerbacks.

I would be fine with taking Holloway if we didn't already have about 6 slot receivers on the roster.  It's not about his talent.

I agree.  I like Dallas Crawford a lot, but if he plays the "I'm only going to Michigan if you guys take my cousin" is pretty weak sauce.  I'm not saying that makes him a bad person, but it might make him go play football somewhere else, and I don't know any of the other schools Crawford was looking at who would take Holloway either, unless they both want to go to WVU.

Adrian Witty was a good player in his own right, and at a position of need as Magnus said.

I'm siding with Magnus and DGDestroys on this one, I don't want us to take Holloway.   Even with decommits, we have a very limited number of scholarships left, and they should go to guys like Countess, Tabb, Bryant, Another OL, Zettel, Some DT, Frost, Lucien, Morgan, Walls, Lyons, Jarrett, Kitchen, Royster, etc.  That's 14 guys as we only have about 10 spots for, not to mention anyone I missed or anyone new who pops up.  I would take a PK before Holloway.
