Who's the funniest person on the team? Who's the most serious?
HELLO MGOBLOG It is Brandin Hawthorne
It's exciting to have former athletes joining us in conversation!
would we have been the last two seasons had Denard played RB (sorry Fitz) and Gardner starting at QB? I preached to all my college football fans literally when Denard was breaking records as a Soph that if we were smart we would put him at RB and Let Devin take over as QB and we would have had Vince Young/ Jamaal Charles 2.5!
I meant college football fans FRIENDS! lol not fans...Im a nobody :/
Not sure why this was moderated as flamebait. It's an interesting question, and it would be great to get a view from someone who was on the team.
Because he can't definitively know the answer and his opinion on the matter would inherently throw someone under the bus.
how would it through someone under the bus...it was a simple opinionated question...in his OPINION does he think we could have been SERIOUS national title contenders with that lineup, the same, or worse off? I see no reason for the question to have been flamebaited...but what do I know...Im a nobody...
Are you dumb? You're asking him if he thinks Devin would've been a better QB than Denard -- if he says "yes", he is insulting Denard. The only correct answer is "I think both are great QBs and great competitors, and the whole team was confident playing with both guys. I think Denard did a great job throughout his career and Devin came in and lead the team once Denard got hurt." Nobody wants to hear that political answer, so instead we'd much rather you just not ask a question that can only lead to trouble.
i would never insult neither of my guys and like you said both guys are great at what they do. i enjoy playing both
Because he wouldn't say something that could be seen a slight against Toussaint or Robinson.
fries or onion rings?
straight or curly?
Shake shack fries. So much crunchy goodness.
five guys cajun fries w/ malt vinegar.
Malt vinegar is only good for ruining the sanctity of the air in the 5-yard vicinity around it. As far as I'm concerned, anyone who uses malt vinegar can die in a fire.
Waffle fries are now pissed!
Let's not forget Tater Tots
We all wish Tate Forcier the best. Long live the Tater Tot.
The funniest is Taylor Lewan or Jeremey Gallon.
The most serious would have to be either me or Fitz Toussaint
What's worse the florida summers or michigan winters? Do you think going north to a cold-weather environment is a big deterrent for Florida kids?
Thanks for hopping on the board.
Your performance in the Under the Lights Notre Dame game was incredible -- particularly knifing into the background on the Cierre Wood tackle.
What was the highlight of your time at U of M (on or off the field)?
Year ND was a great game for me and the Wolverines
i love shot out games because it allows you to see hwat team has the final push and wants it more
On the field: i enjoyed every minute on the field becuase, i didnt know when my last time would be.
Offf the field: i would have to say all the team bonding activites that we had as a team
I came here to say exactly this. You made a couple of plays in the UTL game that I will remember for the rest of my life.
Welcome to the blog, great to have another baller here!
Just how fast are those Pahokee rabbits, anyway? Who among our Pahokee boys has caught one?
So fast that one of my high school teammates go by the name Jackrabbit in the NFL and i would have to say we've all caught rabbits except Richard
What was your favorite game in your Michigan career and why was it your favorite ?
Every Game was a favorite gane to me in some sort of way because i never knew when my last play would be, so i enjoyed every game and every play many may say the under the lights game VS ND but ive always produced everytime ive touch the gridiron and that was just another game i just so happen to sitck out in out of several i should have stuck out in
Firt of all, thanks for posting!
(1) What are your plans now that you have graduated?
(2) Who do you see as a breakout player on defense?
Im now working with non profit #eating and were working on bringing the Michigan and Pahokee community together.
Breakout Player: Blake Countess he has a huge chip on his shoulder so i know he will play that way as well.
Hey, Brandin! How hard was it to learn Coach Hoke and Coach Mattison's defensive scheme mid-career?
Wasnt hard at all as athletes were have classes and in those classes we want the best grades. i look at football the same way its a class. However, in order to be the best you have to understand first what your job is then everyone else job.
Out with the old in with the New i call it . Because i forgot about the old defense before hoke and focus on the new workload
What can we expect from killa cam this season?
Havent Been Back up yet to watch the guys but from me knowing Cam i know he will be a player to keep in eye on hes physical can run and hit. the guy makes plays
Welcome to MGoBlog!
What was your favorite Michigan football moment that you got to be a part of?
Any particular reason you wore #7 at Michigan?
yes my close friend Norman Griffith Wore 7 in High School he was killed my senior year after our homecomming game one friday night it was the night before the day i took my offical visit to michigan and we beat wisconisn. i dedicated my senior season to him and his family. so i knew when i got to college i would ware 7 in honor of him
Which uniform was your favorite?
the Under the lights uniforms
shhhh Brandin! Don't talk about the UNiFOrMz around here lest you be banished to Bolivia already!!!
(i dug those uniforms too)
Hey, Brandin. I was curious what the job search process is like for football players once they graduate. Does your name recognition help at all? Does the school or alumni club provide any assistance tailored for athletes?
I also want to add it's awesome that everyone uses the generic, secret-agent sounding MrSmith account.
i couldnt tell you because i am a proffional athlete and isnt on the search for a job as of now.
If you want to create your own account we can get you set up so you can post and everything. Using your school email would make things easiest, but if you don't want to do that I'd email [email protected] and he'll take care of it.
thanks but im good woking off my partners make it alot eaiser
Brandon, welcome to the MGoCommunity. It is awesome to have you, V. Smith and Tay on this board.
Some questions for you:
1. An MgoBlog related question - do the players know of its existence and if so, how many regularly check in.
2. What areas do you think that this team will struggle in this season, and which areas will be strengths?
3. You have been through the coaching change. Let's put aside the whole "who is a better coach" debate. I would instead by interested in your thoughts on the differences between how RR and Hoke run the team? We know that Hoke is obviously very into the whole tradition of Michigan, and emphasizes it regularly during team meetings. There is a perception that the prior staff did not embrace the tradition as much. What's the real scoop on that? (Again, not asking for comments on who is a better coach, etc. Just curious on an inside view of this debated issue).
1. As a player i didnt know about it really dont get to involved into personal opinions while playing the sport so dont read blogs and i know my teammates are the same way as well.
2.losing jake as well as william campbell is a huge lost so i would have to go with upfront on the D-line but knowing that coach matt is coaching them they will be great with Taylor coming back and a few vets on theO-line the Oline would be strong
3. Hoke staff just being more on the coaching and teaching the players and with Coach Rod staff it was hard to relate at times and this tridation we speak of im curious to know what it is yeah there were so new things that we did differently with the new staff but for the most part it was pretty much the same in that aspect
Where everybody uses the same Mr. Smith identity
this is my partner of our non profit #eating profile i just wanted to let everyone know im on board with #eating now thats all.
Just teasin. Wish you all the best, you deserve it
1)Who does the craziest Brady Hoke inpresonation?
2)Who has the sickest basketball game on the football team?
3)Presently,dopest (underground or mainstream) hip hop mc?
You sound like a 45-year-old guy going through a mid-life crisis.
is the hottest, dopest, sickest, most sickest hot dope honey in all the hood?
Come on man, you can't be serious!
I'm just everyday ppl...dosen't really matter if you are or aren't...j/a My verbage usage has you all twisted??
I'll avoid stepping on your lawn.
You are using this (drastically overused) metaphor. I do not think it means what you think it means.
Guy above is saying you sound like an old guy trying to sound like one of the cool kids. He's not complaining about how the cool kids talk. Not every damn thing that involves a) complaining; or b) old guys has to be met with 'get off my lawn.'
You goddamn kids.
1. Elloitt Mealer
2. William Campbell
3. as of now its Kendrick Lamar
from 2 planets away I got my drink I got my music I would share it but today I'm sayin' BITCH DON'T KILL MY VIBE, BITCH DON'T KILL MY VIBE.
May peace & love find you in your endeavors.
You are wise beyond your years.
Totally agree, and I'm not that surprised to know a younger guy likes their music. I mean, good music is not like a dairy product. It really doesn't ever go bad.
Welcome! Man, are you in for a lot of questions. Most of them will center around what it's like to be you. It is soooo good to have former players (maybe some current ones too?) on the board. This is the best site for Michigan football discussion out there by far.
I just went all 8 year old girl giddy and said to my wife," Brandin Hawthorne just said thanks to me using Vincent Smith's account on MGOBLOG!!" She just rolled her eyes. Obviously she doesn't understand the importance of this momentous occasion. Heh.
Do you follow recruiting at all? We just had big news with Jabrill Peppers committing from the 2014 HS class. Is this something you all follow at all?
im a player and as a player we really dont get involved into the recruiting
In your opinion, which current player (besides Taylor Lewan and Devin Gardner) has the best shot at being a first-round draft pick?
Which underclassmen should we look out for to have a breakout season?
All of them because they all have alot to prove and dreams of being 1st round picks
Did you or any of your friends/teammates ever go up to North Campus during your time at U-M?
I'm only asking because I was a sport management major who lived on NC 3 out of 4 years and everyone in sport management looked at me funny when I said I lived on NC lol.
Yes Stayed in the courtyards my freshmen yeae and had classes on North as well
Thanks for taking the time to answer questions.
How did training differ with Coach Barwis vs. Coach Wellman?
Were there any exercises you stopped doing after Coach Wellman started?
Any new exercises you started?
Any nutritionional/diet differences?
i love going to the weightroom and grinding so i liked both coaches
Barwis was more of a Olympic style workouts working fast twitch muscles that got you strong as heck but we didnt gain weight
Wellman more of the developing program gains weight, flexion, strength and mental toughtness
What are #eatin' short-term and long-term goals with connecting Pahokee and the Michigan community?
What type of charitable events or activities does #eatin' have planned for the future?
How can mgoblog and it's community of users continue to help #eatin' reach their goals?
Hello Brandin Hawthorne!
thanks for all your hard work during your time at Michigan. hopefully running through that tunnel and touching that banner was as amazing as watching you guys do it.
just a few quick questions:
are there any players from opposing teams that you had a relationship with on the field or from high school days or looked forward to playing against?
do you think you or any of the other pahokee guys might get into coaching?
were there any opposing team's stadiums or bowl stadiums that stood out as being better or comparable to Michigan Stadium from a crowd noise or intimidation standpoint?
yes there were alot of players that i knew form high school that i was really excited to play against too many to name so i will put schools
some might get into coaching but want be me no time soon dont allow you to have a life or family time
Welcome and thank you. Would you be so kind as to predict the Score of the Ohio game this year?
Again, thanks and happy to hear from you on the board. Good luck champ.
Based on facing him in practice, how excited should we be about Devin Gardner at QB this upcoming season?
devin is speical hes a great QB with all the right tools hes smart, fast, big and strong should have been starting if you ask me just like some would say the same about me but its not about me or devin its about Michigan.
You flat out BEASTED in the UTL ND game. M doesn't win that one without you!
We missed you against South Carolina. (I bet you'd have stopped that punt return.)
I always told people you should have played more. So glad I had the opportunity to tell this to you directly.
That is all.
Good luck, sir!
But you know some time your not delt a good or great hand of cards and you have to play them without showing your bluff. Im just blessed to have woren the wing helmet and help Michigan get back on track
Your hit on Wood during the UTL game man...game changer. I have said to Tay and Vincent and now you: what you guys are doing is awesome and speaks volumes on the character you guys possess. Way to to rep the university, and your hometown. Go Blue!
Hey Brandin, thanks for all your hard work as a Wolverine when you were here!
I know you signed with the Rams, but I'm not sure how much the NFL preseason has been underway. If you've practiced yet, how well did Greg Mattison prepare you to contribute to a defense at an NFL level and could you describe the transition at all?
Coach mattiison and the staff prepared us in a NFL way from the day theat staff was introduced to us so coming to SLT wasnt to much of a major adjustment just a few termnology changes our defense at michigan was a NFL style Defense so that made the transition that much eaiser
What was your favorite play to run on defense? Why? What was your least favorite? What was your favorite offensive play to run against in practice? What was your least favorite offensive play to run against in practice?
Who's the next player the coaches give the Legends jersey to?
This is awesome that former players are joining the MGoCommunity here. Welcome, Brandin!
Thanks for all that you gave to Michigan and Michigan football during your time in Ann Arbor.
What up Brandin
Blondes or brunettes?
on the line?
1. If you could just pop an opposing college player in the mouth, and you knew no one would see it...who would it be?
2. Favorite class at Michigan
3. Favorite place to eat in Ann Arbor
4. Favorite movie(now) and favorite movie(childhood).
First, congrats on graduating from Michigan! I hope you are still on MGo.
My question is about Pahokee and the current staff. Are they recruiting the area as much as the prior staff was? I don't know the talent coming out of the area, but is Hoke's staff building/ maintaining that pipeline?
Thanks for all of your efforts. Good luck with all of your present and future endeavors. Go Blue!
Mgoblog alot? Understandably they cant interact during time on the team, just curious if any of the memes/shirt/conversation ideas find their way to team conversations?
Welcome Brandin. Thanks so much for everything you did at Michigan. Also good luck with the Rams and may you have many successful seasons in the NFL and all your other ventures.
to you immediately after the final UTL touchdown, as he kindly walk you back down the sideline? He look a just a little upset.
When I was friends w/ a few players, they had a hard time dealing w/ the pressure of having the fanbase and student body on their shoulders. Specifically, students' happiness/sadness on Mondays was the result of game day wins/losses. Did you feel that pressure, and was it ever discussed between teammates?
Loved your attitude and the way you play the game. I also appreciated the way that you use eyeblack but most of all I LOVE the way that all of the Michigan Men, from Pahokee, have represented UM and their community.
Brandin, will the Pahokee pipeline continue? I hope so, for the good of Michigan and Pahokee.
It's not an area that Michigan traditionally focused on before RR, but I hope we've established enough of a presence for it to live on. You guys are certainly doing your part.
That's three count 'em THREE former players on mgoblog. All of us should be honored that they have chosen to post here.
What game would you pick to do a rematch and why?
How did you get 500+ Mgopoints in 22 days? Did Brian grant you special access or something?
It's Vincent Smith's account; if a guy like Smith wants to post and can be verified as real he doesn't go through the same waiting game to post like you or I did, and 500 is the minimum that allows you to do everything possible as a poster.
It's not common, but it does happen occasionally. Same goes if someone posted awesome original content without enough points to post it as a forum topic or diary.
I'm curious about the #eatin logistics.
How will you distribute the food? Can qualified people just come and "shop" in the garden, or is there some kind of harvesting and distribution system that is already set up, or needs to be set up?
It's cool what you are doing. They need to give you additional/bigger lots if you show continued success.
Glad to see another recent player come aboard. I have a fond memory of you taking a picture with me along with some of the other Florida contingent on the team at the time. Vincent Smith, Tae Odoms, Denard Robinson all in the same shot...I have it prominently on display on facebook during football season. Go Blue!https://www.facebook.com/photo.php?fbid=10151446914341729&set=t.674571728&type=3&theater
Question: When it was all said and done, was the cold ever actually an issue? Did playing at Michigan help you prepare for playing in cold-weather NFL cities?
Congrats on the degree!
Can you talk about the community of former players that you've just joined? I'd think sharing experiences like being student athletes, wearing the helmet, etc puts you on an exclusive club along with Woodley, Foote, Trent, Edwards, Graham, etc. Is it a tightknit group?
Congrats on graduating!
It was a special time in Michigan watching all the Florida kids making a difference.
Any we should keep an eye out for the future?
