Hello: Jon Runyan Jr. (per 247)
Jon Runyan Jr. has committed to the Wolverines
http://michigan.247sports.com/Article/Jon-Runyan-Jr-Commits-to-Michigan…
I predict I'll be the 4th to post this by the time it goes through.
Honest question: Is this good news?
Yes.
what is your username and why does it show up as intergalactic font?
How dare you question 토린
plus a lot of mgopoints. Equals?
Lol. I was just kidding. I know what Korean is. Can't you see that my avatar is a protoss zealot!!!! Anyone who plays SC knows what Korean is!!
But apparently anyone who knows what Korean is does not know what a protoss zealot is. Because I have no idea.
In any case, welcome Jon Runyan Jr.!
Also a muscled pyramid laborer.
boyz n da pahokee → thorin → mgovideo → 토린 (torin)
Reason: Korean has no θ sound.
True. In addition, Korean doesn't have a straight "r" sound. It's more of a mix between an "r" and a "l". But close enough.
So, is it pronounced Tollin?
Never question 토린, who is responsible for the best source of Michigan video on the internet.
The Magnus will tell us.
I'd rather have Mangus give his evaluation.
I would rather have magnus give me a handjob... it would be more valuable than his take on a sophmore in high school...
love you,
jdon
Mike Cox would have won five Heismans if he had Runyan Jr. blocking for him.
That is great for you. I would rather his insight.
I don't swing that way, but to each his own. You're going to have to settle for my analysis and get your handjobs from some other dude.
I don't see nothing wrong with a little mangus grindin'...
anyway, I was just stating that i would rather get jerked off by a stranger than read an assement of a high school sophmore by someone who has probably never seen him live and in person...
that said, I don't hate on magnus and occasionally I find him inciteful (yep inciteful) but the chodes who clamour for your opinion are embarrassing...
love you all,
jdon
I'm sure there are plenty of "analysts" who have never seen him in person. If you're only going to value the opinions of guys who see every one of these recruits in person, then you're not going to value many opinions. I'm guessing our very own Ace and Brian are two of those guys who haven't seen Runyan (or many of these players) in person.
The argument that "You haven't seen this guy in person" is mostly hogwash. That's how college coaches do their recruiting. If you run through the list of guys Michigan has offered over the years, how many of them do you think Michigan has watched play in person? They probably haven't seen very many guys outside of Michigan and Ohio play football games, and not many of them at camp, either. I wouldn't be surprised if they've never seen Da'Shawn Hand or Jabrill Peppers play football in person, and those are two of their biggest targets.
I'm not too big on analyst anyway... inherently they have make their 'customers' happy.
I don't even have a problem with you magnus; I figure you obviously know a little something and you are willing to put the time in ( a disturbingly high amount of time, but whatever). I do think that some of the lemmings on this website are a complete joke and were the people I intended to make fun of with my initial post...
That said please don't pretend to be on par with the coaches and the amount of scouting they do. Unless you have access to game film for the players we recruit then I have to assume you are going off of highlight film, individual games you can get your hands on, camp film, and probably the writing of a million different people at all the other sites (247, rivals, whatever)...
handjobs for everyone,
jdon
I'm not claiming to be on the same level as college coaches.
What I'm saying is that your criticism of "You haven't seen him in person" is irrelevant.
If you want to argue that I don't have access to ENOUGH film, that's a different discussion.
how much film do you really have access too?
and as a follow up: how much time do you really have to devote to watching said film?
jdon
I have access to Youtube, Hudl, and Rivals video. Occasionally I see some of these guys in person.
I can't really give you an answer to the second question. It depends on various factors.
sounds good.
jdon
The coaches probably consider anyone they've offered for 2015 as "Plan A" guys, and they probably knew that if they offered this kid he'd jump on that offer, so they obviously wanted him.
The coaches consider this to be good news, therefore I do too.
I'm not sure if it's paywalled, but 247 has a breakdown on him. I seem to be in a half-subscribed limbo and I'm not sure what's available. Anyway, here's one tidbit:
Agreed - super early offer plus in-person evaluation at camp plus his dad was a Michigan legend and long time NFL player means this is certainly a good thing.
Unfortunately I will call him Jon Jansen Jr at least once because I always got those two confused.
Just remember that Runyan rhymes with Paul Bunyan. Convince yourself he's a giant with a big blue ox and you will never forgot. RUNYAN THE GIANT.
For the team: Yes
For me: No, because I remember being at house parties with his father in 1994; which means I am old.
We were probably at some of the same parties then.
I was at some party in some guy's apartment in 1993, and I went into the bathroom to do #1. While I'm in there, somebody comes and bangs on the door. I say, "I''ll be out in a minute," but the guy just keeps on banging. So then I think, "well if this guy can't be patient, then I'll just take my sweet time." So I leisuirely finish my piss, wash my hands (thoroughly), and then as I open the door I am prepared to give the guy a mouthful. But as soon as the door opens, the largest human I have ever seen up close is angrily towering over me. All I can say is, "whoah, dude--how tall are you?" He looks down and gruffly replies, "that's not a wise question to ask." I go across the room and ask somebody who the giant is that just went into the bathroom, and am told, "Oh, that's Jon Runyan. He just likes to mess with people."
Worked with random woman who claimed to once date a UM OL from Florida during that time. I guess he didn't play much but thinking she was bullshitting I politely asked who else she knew. She was also from Florida and knew nothing about football but rattled off half the team from that general 3 year era. Even knew Griese was kind of a dick and her bf was recruited by "some guy named Les Miles" (whooole other story on him). Anyway, she named Runyan as maybe the nicest guy on the team and said he was a proud and outspoken virgin until marriage guy and many respected that. Question being if, general partying aside, he was a good dude and not a dick jock? Thanks as this woman told me some funny/crazy stories with the stories about Miles confirming my never wanting him to be our HC.
Do tell.
if mods/posters are ok with it. will have to be a bit later as it's too much to tap type by phone.
I'm guessing Noah Parker (OG - Milton, FL - 1994-98)? The only other OL from Florida from that era are Rod Payne, Steve Everitt, and Steve Hutchinson all of whom played a lot.
Noah Parker was a really, really nice guy. Absolute class act.
that is him
Runyan went to Flint Carman-Aimsworth HS and graduated the same year as me. He dated a girl from my nearby hometown of Mount Morris for a few years towards the end of HS and into college. He went to our senior prom. I was a 6'2" left tackle myself...dude absolutely dwarfed me. Once waited on him at McDonald's and looked him square in the sternum. Cool Story Bro.
I enjoy stories like Mark in Mt Morris described and I don't think it's necessary for someone always needing to defend themselves from telling a story on a message board by saying that, even if there are a couple of snobs here that will get mad for posting it
If you post a personal tale, expect someone to say cool story, bro. It just is what it is. I like to read them as well. However, in this case, I do have one qualm. What kind of a McDonald's has actual waiters?
There's a difference between someone else commenting on a story with a "cool story bro" as a response and posters using it to comment on their own stories.
Cool double post bro.
Mark, my dad taught at Carman-Ainsworth and had Runyan as a student. Probably you too. I've met John a few times along with some of the other people that played on that team. So, I wonder if we have met. I myself didn't go to Carmen-Ainsworth.
I remember sitting in a class during the first day of my sophomore or maybe junior year at UM, and the professor is taking attendance. It's one of those situations where the class is full and there are a bunch of waitlisted people in the classroom on the first day to see if they can get it, so the professor is just trying to figure out whether any of the registered students failed to show so that he can admit people from the waiting list. Anyway, he is running through the Gs and eventually calls off, "Gree-zee."
A voice from the back of the room calls back, "It's Gree-zee," as in, he's correcting the professor's pronounciation of the name, even though the professor had it right to first time. So the professor repeats, "Brian Gree-zee," and again Greise "corrects" him. The professor then just moved onto the next name.
Based on that, as well as various stories I heard about Greise trying to pick up women at Scorekeepers using the line, "Do you know who I am?", I didn't have a very high opinion of the dude for some time. However, I didn't really know Greise myself, and I did have a few friends who knew him well and, by the end of my four years, they really liked the guy.
Looking back, I think it may have been one of those situations where Greise came into college as kind of a brash, arrogant kid--and then matured significantly after some humbling experiences. Besides, I kind of look back at the 20-year-old version of myself and think, "man, I was a real douchebag back then." So I have come to have a pretty high opinion of Greise nowadays. And for the same reason, I tend not to be too critical of some of the dumb things players and recruits will do and say--and have all the more respect for guys like Denard and Devin, who handle themselves gracefully from day one.
Yeah not so sure. Griese must have used the "don't you know who I am?" line a lot. I've personally heard it even after his college playing days were over. He was drunk and belligerent at the time so who knows must have been his "go to" phrase.
Afraid to have a drink or many.
involved alcohol and assclown behavior. If ok I will say all she told me and maybe others can verify but based on her knowing zero about fb, she knew names and general positions and had stories of great detail that when told made me go from "yeah right...." to believing her completely. Considering length, where should I post it when at my laptop?
Interesting stuff. I think stories like that (along with the more public ones) make the moments when Bob is getting choked up at the end of the 1997 season (while calling games) all the more special. It had to be such a bigger deal for him to see how his son matured on and off the field.
Interestingly, I went to college (private school in South Carolina) with a girl who purported to be a distant cousin of Bob and Brian, and she pronounced her name Gri-zay.
If I remember correctly, Greise was a walk-on. Is that correct? Does anyone remember his recruitment story? Why not follow in his dad's footsteps at Purdue or stick closer to his high school area in southern Florida?
Jim Harbaugh hit on a girlfriend of mine at a party when he was in school. She was RC and not at all a football fan so her blase answer was 'no I don't -- where's the keg?'.
too. Man he was one angry dude after that Colorado game. I used his clubs golfing and that was awkward for a 5'9" guy. Felt like I could hardly see the ball it was so far away.
