Hello: John Andrysiak - 2015 linebacker (preferred walk-on)
Michigan did not pick up any linebackers in its 2015 recruiting class, and that could open the door for John Andrysiak.
Andrysiak, a 6-foot-1, 205-pound bullet from Flint Powers Catholic, will join the Michigan football program this summer as a preferred walk-on, he confirmed Wednesday to MLive.
Welcome to Michigan and Good Luck!
EDIT: 2015 Linebacker.
So he's a 2015 linebacker...
fixed it. need more coffee
"Hey, look its 9:15...need more coffee."
Is this former ND qb Terry Andrysiak's son?
Yup, thats what the article says
Should have read before asking.
a little bit of Ross Ryan with the ND connection. Ross' dad played for ND as well, but only for one season.
2015 walk on

I'm assuming that there isn't, I just don't remember hearing a lot about them under previous coaches. The only ones we ever heard about were legacy players. This has to be the norm, build up quality practice squads, its nice to be a real football program again.
There is a limit on scholarships. If a walk-on player is later awarded a scholarship, then that player counts toward the limit.
I have the number 115 stuck in my head. No idea where it came from though. Could be my gas bill this month.

There's a limit of 105 allowed to practice in the summer.
I think the number 115 you have in your head is the number of times AnklePick whined about you calling him out.

A $115 gas bill in March would never happen at my house. God forbid anyone puts on a sweater.
I'm sure he'll be back to visit soon.

Can't believe how time flies.

You can only have 105 players attend fall camp, but I don't believe there is any other limit as to the number of players. Any player not in fall camp simply starts practice when the year begins.

thank you!
He plays bigger than 205 it seems to my untrained eye. Keeps his feet going and moves piles, whether he's on O or D, sheds blocks, has a great nose for the ball. He shows great potential, I think.

Seems to be pretty strong and a good tackler. Probably doesn't have the elite speed or quickness, at least not yet. If he works his butt off for a couple of years, on speed and quickness, bulks up a little bit, he could push for some time.

What's the difference between a preferred walk on vs a non-preferred walk on?
March 26th, 2015 at 10:53 AM ^
The coaches had interest in the preferred walk on, but didn't feel the player warranted a scholarship. The coaches all but-promise a spot on the team if the kId enrolls and tries out for the team. A regular walk on is a casual student who tries out for the team and makes it, a la Vince Papale.

get access to significantly easier entrance requirements.

that too. A 3.8 with a 27 ACT probably wouldn't get a non-athlete into Michigan these days without some other factor.

I'm going to upvote the shit out of you.

you were logging in specifically to neg my posts. You related to Mr. Andrysiak?

he's feeling guilty about it and wants to make it up to you.

if that's the worst thing he does in his daily life he's a far better man than I.

The difference between a preferred walkon and a non-preferred walkon is that the preferred walkon is guaranteed a spot in the 105 limit. If the team is a 105 no more walkons are allowed.

Oh no way, I played with this guy! You couldn't find a nicer kid!
Great player too! And yeah, his dad did play for Notre Dame. He actually got Lou Holtz to call our team before a game one time. We won.
what's your name? I also played with him. I'm Tyler Townsend #2, lost the game against Flushing.

Looks like a good sized kid who can tackle well and likes to hit. You can always find a way to use a kid like that. His film is actually pretty nice for a walk-on. Kinda surprised he didn't at least have MAC offers.

I laughed a little when the article referred to a guy 6'1'- 205 as stout. I know they actually mean his play not his physical size, but still thought it was funny phrasing. With his ACT and GPA he is obviously bright, but when he says something about getting up to 215, I still think of that size as more of a safety than a linebacker. Kid may be a classic tweener. Then there is also the old saying of it being the size of the heart in the dog and not the size of the dog in the fight. In any case, welcome and good luck!

“We sent him film and talked for a while, and then it finally came about,” Andrysiak said. “I’ve just been watching practice with (Mattison) and he said he wants me to come in at 215 and we’ll go from there. I don’t know, he must have liked something.”
Sounds like Mattison did indeed like something. Welcome to Michigan, John Andrysiak.
Actually, I believe his father is a Cabrini grad (Allen Park), which isn't too far up the road from where I live.
