Hello: Joel Honigford (Offensive Tackle - 2017)
Michigan just grabbed a commitment from Joel Honigford; an offensive tackle out of Ohio. Even sweeter, it looks like we beat MSU for him.

Side note: He had five Crystal Balls on 247....all to MSU.
Welcome, Mr. Honigford!
Always good to get the OTs!
Great Week for the Offensive Line......welcome aboard Joel!
That OL class is starting to take shape!
It's been a good week. Anyway this guy gets the 4* similar to Stueber?
Offer sheet would suggest he is at least as qualified as Stueber for a 4th star
He's already a 4 Star on ESPN. He's also #199 in the country in the ESPN 300 and rated an 82.
and we start singing "Songs from Bolivia". Looks like some have already started.
Crystal ball was 100% MSU
Lol....

Now I'm convinced you do have 10+ accounts.
for the comment that he was 100% to Sparty. Sparty No!
My almost two year old nephew: "what does a Spartan say? Waaaa waaaa" One hour ago! What are the odds???
I'll never forgive that porkchop Sparty fan that kept yelling in my ear and kneeing me in the back. Made fun of my #1 jersey too. They must die this year in East Lansing.
That must mean he wasn't good enough for MSU. They go after nothing but elite recruits. As recruiting rankings matter to them now.

Welcome aboard.
how many Oline players we take in 2017 given the 3 already committed and some of the high level guys still being targeted.
At least 90. Because it feels like the roster needs that many.
They have mentioned at least six. If Wilson and Slaton wait until signing day they would probably make room for them either way and could potentially take 7. At this point 6-7 would be a good get

My guess is they take 5 or 6, depending on how things turn out late. They now have three guys that could potentially play OT, though I (and I presume the coaching staff) would like at least one more that is a natural OT.
I feel like we take one more tackle (not including Wilson), one guard, and one center. Our O-line last two year was heavy on the guard position so that may be covered for now. Slaton and Wilson are a take no matter what.
This should be it for awhile with Singleton, Collins, Peoples Jones, Ruiz, Thomas, Kelly Powell, Wilson, Slaton, Holmes etc. still on the board unless we are having a larger class than 28.
This morning Sam Webb said he saw this class nearing 30 with attrition and such.

Either we see Honigford moving inside or we really don't want to wait for/don't feel confident in Zay Wilson, TJ Slaton, or Toryque Bateman.
But by all accounts Honigford can play. Great to have him in the fold.
Well, Slaton is an inside guy, and the coaches would be willing to take 4 tackles. Zay Wilson will probably have a spot no matter what.
Ah, I always confuse Slaton's position with his teammate, Kai-Leon Herbert's. Good call. They could probably both play inside though.
Yeah Wilson is one of the dudes you save a spot for, even if he's not a plug-and-play guy. Potential is super duper. Do get the vibe we have fallen behind Bama here, however.
Who knows with Zay, he's one of those recruits that keeps things close. Seems to be a battle with us vs. Bama, hopefully we can pull it off, like you said his upside is tremendous.
Either way, I look forward to finally having a great o line again, no more of the bullshit we had under Hoke.
Slaton plays RT for his HS but I don't see him at tackle in college. doesn't have the foot speed.
Did you learn nothing from last year? This coaching staff will take a commitment from anyone they think can play for them, and if someone better comes along (like Wilson) they will move on and take the better player. I'm not saying that as a criticism, as I believe this is a good strategy. But just because they're taking a commitment from a guy doesn't mean they have given up on someone else.
That strategy does not supercede positional needs or constraints. We have not taken commitments from WR's that we thought very highly of, both this year and last, due to positional numbers (Z vs. Slot, WR vs. Other positions).
Obviously this staff values versatility, especially on each line, a la Mason Cole and Chris Wormley (and probably soon enough, Gary). Of course we will still take Wilson no matter what, I just think it shows that they think Honigford, or Hall, or a future commit could flex inside.
Similar players. Honigford has a lot further to go physically though. Wouldn't be surprised is Honigford ended up at LG or possibly Center.
Than Ruiz are we recruiting any HS centers?
Committed to USC. So no, we aren't recruiting anyone else specifically for center. But a lot of centers don't start out at center (Cole, Runyan, for example).
We did offer Drew Dalman (who visited recently), and I think Jess Speight could play center (if he has a committable offer).
Nice! Welcome, Big Fella! All your OTs belong to us.
with Hall, Steuber, and Honigford in the fold, that'll leave room for about 3 more. In good shape with Wilson, Slaton, Herbert, and Ruiz. If we can land 2 or 3 of those 4, that'd be a heck of a nice OL haul
That came out of nowhere. Looks to be a nice pickup with an impressive offer list. We need a big O-line class so this makes a lot of sense. I trust the coaches have an eye for talent. It is even sweeter stealing a guy from MSU.
Did he visit recently? Seems out of the blue to turn blue.
Into the blue?
According to his 247 timeline. He looks like a solid player. I'm glad he went Blue. :)
On 6/27 he put out a top 4 of M, MSU, Auburn and Oregon:
http://www.mlive.com/sports/2016/06/ohio_ol_joel_honigford_include.html…
Two things are about to happen:
1) He will be bumped up to 4*
2) MSU fans will claim that they didn't really want him, and they can do just fine with 2* OL
They've found 2* types are more easily pressured into "vitamin" injections.
Anyone else awaiting the bwink meltdown?

We might as well wait, I suppose. I actually didn't cave him or even send him to Bolivia. It occurs to me that we really do need an account or two which simply are left untouched and in a state where they can naturally self-destruct without mod intervention. A site like MGoBlog needs someone who is basically the site's cautionary tale. That dude might serve that purpose - time will tell.
Bwink took one hell of a beating. But he just...would...not ...go...down. Like Chuck Wepner getting his ass kicked by Ali.
It wasn't Bolivia-worthy to begin with in my opinion. I understand the need to keep it clean on here but it seems like too much of an echo chamber sometimes. I thought the guy just had a different opinion than most and did not really see him disparaging the recruit in any way.
He wasn't sent to Bolivia. He expressed his opinion and others expressed theirs.
I really want Wilson and Slaton in this class.
And Herbert.
And Ruiz.
and Collins and Peoples-Jones
Another OL recruit whose name will inevitably be misspelled throughout his time here. Welcome, HoniNgford.
