Poggi commits to Michigan per Sam Webb on WTKA.
spoiler alert: i linked this
ALABAMA! GET SOME!
always take Bama recruits.. but when i do...
I make sure the World knows I mean business.
Yes. Boot the people who say we don't win head to heads. Feel better now
I was just about to say...I don't want to hear any hat pick complaints. When you're getting kids picking between you and Bama, it's gotta be a good thing.
Sorry about the typo. It's hard to type when you are on the treadmill.
Yeah, just so I'm clear on this...
If Poggi had chosen Michigan over Alabama and another school (i.e. had three in his final group), it wouldn't have meant anything. Since it was only Bama, though (i.e. two in his final group), it's a huge deal.
I'm so glad he had a 'committable offer' because this kid is a beast!
good news indeed
Gotta love it.
"It was definitely very close (between Michigan and Alabama), but I’m 100% for Michigan."
Welcome aboard Henry!
Edit: Link Here to Sam's article this morning.
Then he remembered Alabama academics, or lack thereof, don't hold a finger to UM's.
This is a huge get. A high-profile national recruit in a head-to-head recruiting battle against Alabama. Huge. Maybe now we'll start to get a bunch more nationally-ranked players in this cl....oh, wait...
Welcome to Michigan Mr Poggi!!
That's all you have to say....speechless!!
Kid gets me excited just listening to him. Seems like a high character guy.
I like that he has a Stanford offer, and that Hurst had Duke and Vandy offers. That suggests that neither of them is likely to be an academic risk.
Just like it's posted every single time. Someone thinks a duke offer means a smart kid and they are then reminded that our good friend Terelle Pryor also had a Duke offer.
Still, I have no doubts that Poggi will be just fine at Michigan.
I'm listening to Henry's interview with Sam on WTKA right now. You can stream it over the net if you're not in the A2 area, fwiw. Just go to wtka.com then click on listen live.
What about the 10:00 commitment? So who is that?
rolls on. Great choice and welcome aboard Mr. Poggi.
Welcome to Michigan, Henry!
This is a great get and even better, we just beat out Nick Saban for a nationally prized recruit. Monday is a good day today.
This is fantastic news. Poggi is blue and I'm jackin' it in San Diego.
So glad we got two DTs in this class...
The only downside is; what the hell are we going to talk about before the start of practice? The 2013 class is just about done before high schools let out.
When you beat Nick Saban one-on-one for a top recruit, that is saying something. Our defensive line just got a whole lot nastier.
I scouted Poggi back in March if anyone missed it and/or is interested in taking a look.
"...Alabama, Auburn, Boston College, California, Florida, Iowa, Maryland, Michigan, Michigan State, Mississippi, Missouri, North Carolina State, Northwestern, Notre Dame, Ohio State, Penn State, Purdue, South Florida, Stanford, Tennessee, Texas A&M, USC, Vanderbilt, Virginia, West Virginia, and Wisconsin" (from the Touch The Banner link).
Thanks Magnus. Great day to be blue.
All i've got to say is if the freaking Aztec's screw this class up by having the world end I am NOT going to be happy with them in the least.
The Mayans however...
They have found a new calendar that goes on much further. It hasn't got as much news coverage, because it is a good thing. Yeah we get to live!
Mgrowold, I don't think this is the first picture you've used that's a girl wearing Michigan gear. If they/you are up for it, you should drop me an e-mail for the Attractive Michigan Girl of the Week feature.
Let there be Kate Upton!
Huge. This is looking to be the best class in Michigan history! Now OSU can stop finding consolation in the fact that their DL recruiting is so much better than ours...
WHY YOU NO COMMIT?!?
Lol take that saban
Congrats, Henry! Welcome to the family!
I'd still do her.
(It's still a her, right?)
W-Why would you do this?!!!
Hilarious, but so wrong.
SO GLAD you chose to come to Michigan!! Can't wait to see you playing in the Big House on Saturdays!!
RT @TomVH: With Henry Poggi Michigan has 16 4-stars commits for 2013. One more than '11 & 12 combined.
When looking at this class, I remember something said during the UM/SDSU game. Rocky Long was quoted as saying "the question isn't if Brady Hoke will win a national championship at Michigan, the question is when." I would say it's on the horizon.
I still think it takes ALOT, even more than just recruiting, to win an NC. However, if the recruiting keeps up the way it has, and the coaching staff continues to develop the talent, there is no reason why we shouldn't be one of the teams that are consistently ranked in the Top 10 and getting NC talk.
I can see myself making a lot more trips to the Big House over the next few years, to watch these kids play. Wish I still lived in Ann Arbor.
Tell me about it bro, I just moved back to Texas after 12 amazing years in A2. I'm getting home sick after all the talent heading to A2.
Nice way to start off a week.
Agreed recruiting is a small portion of the overall picture. Player development is huge, but look what this staff did primarily with Lloyd Carr's and Rich Rodriguez's players on both offense and defense.
Recruiting is not a small portion of the overall picture.
You won't get there on recruiting alone, but there are no National Champions that did not recruit extremely well.
I love having great news right when I wake up.
I don't know how Rivals calculates its points for team rankings, but with the addition of Poggi, Michigan is at 2,569 points for the 2013 class. For comparison, the only 2012 class to exceed that total was Alabama, with 2,621 points. Assuming MOAR commits means MOAR points, we could blow completely past that number before the summer is ended. Even if that assumption is wrong (it probably is), it's still our best class ever, before the summer has even started.
I don't think there are enough platitudes in existence to give Hoke and Co. the credit they deserve for the job they've done, both coaching and recruiting, in under 18 months.
Great news. Poggi is a big commitment.
Welcome to Michigan, Henry. Look forward to seeing you in the Big House.
This Monday just got much less shitty.
Very excited about Mr. Poggi. I see him as RVB but faster and better. The fact that we finally won a high profile recruiting face off against another blue chip team makes this particularly sweet.
However, after the high quality O lines we have recruited last year and this, with probably only Stanford even in the conversation in terms of best, my mind will be boggled if we cannot translate that into a 5 star or high 4 star RB joining this class.
What I envision in two years for UM is a replica of Wisconsin's explosive offense, except with even better talent, better maulers, a better QB, and a more highly rated RB pounding the gaps for 7 yards a pop. Wisconsin 2.0.
They'll consume so much clock on offense, with huge, sustained drives, that in two years Mr. Poggi, Mr. Taco, Peewee Pipkins, Mssrs. Wormley and Mcray and Thomas, Bolden, Ross, Strobel, etc., will all enjoy epic defensive numbers, giving up an average of under 14 points a game.
Don't forget about one Mr. Smith. He was some great tools to work with and if five of the nine O-Linemen over the last to cycles work out you or I (well maybe you) might be able to gain 1,000 yards.
Just read Sam Webb's article on Mr. Poggi, this kid is the definition of a team player. The last portion of the article Henry did nothing but hype up his HS teammates.
This all happened so fast. I want to make sure we express some love for Mr. Hurst as well.
It's great . . . to be . . . a Michigan Wolverine!! (Repeat. Dance around a little bit.)
Now Is the time for Treadwell to commit, and without a doubt, this can arguably be one of the top classes of all time, if not the top !
Welcome the fam Poggi.
Welcome to Michigan Henry. No doubt in my mind you will be a beast here in A2.
