Hello: (football walk on) Michael Jocz
I definitely thought this was board worthy. However I recently talked to Michael Jocz, who informed me of his acceptance at Michian, and his plan to walk-on to the football team. He said he's talked to Hoke numerous times about his plans and that he intends to be there for fall camp.
Michigan's truly getting a quality kid here: he has a 4.0 gpa, and a 32 ACT(!). He plays WR/TE for Novi, and at 6'4, 190.. you can make a case for playing both.
He was named ALL KLAA division team by max preps, and i've embedded his highlight video below. Wish him luck!
Looks like he will be good for special teams with those blocked kicks.
At 190 I'm not sure you can make a case for TE.
He looks pretty small, muscle wise. You could probably put 20 or more pounds on him and he would be a reasonable option for one of the tight end positions. I doubt he would be a starter, but 6'3, 220 wouldnt be fun to cover.
Not at the college level anyway
You never know. Some guys have put on 60-70 lbs during their college careers.
The kid has good hands and looks like a gamer. Nice pick up for a walk-on.
But it was from Jet's and Campus Corner.
I'm friends with his sister, and it looks like he's put on a decent amount of muscle since his highlight video came out. I'd guess he's around 210 by now.
How long until a Sparty offer comes?
He's a 2012 recruit, so he's already enrolled at UM.
Sparty has nothing to offer.
couches?
Jocz on them if they do try to offer.
I kept thinking that he is the perfect football player since all the jocks played football, but then your comment made me realize it's probably pronounced with a long o. Damn.
Jocz is pronounced "Joess", long "o" with an emphasis on the "s" sound. That's how it was pronounced several times in that highlight film.
Shit the dreaded double post. Damn iPhone.
He would exceed their upper limits on both GPA and ACT score.
Kid seems to have solid hands and a knack to play hard, he is good on my book. Maybe he will get a shot when he is more developed and if he gets faster. Welcome!
Good luck to him! Even coach Bo said the walk on's help make up the heart of a team.
Welcome to Meeechigan Mike!
We are all jealous that you are young, smart, going to Michigan and you get to live, learn, and grow with a great football team and coaching staff.
Welcome aboard, Michael!
Yeah, looks like his hands are solid and he's got good concentration. He'll be nice practice for guys to cover someone with height. Meanwhile he could see the field perhaps on special teams. I think his chances to see the field on offense are contingent on gaining 50 lbs over the next 3 years.
on how long before MSU offers him a schollie?
Welcome to Michigan, Michael!
Pretty good video - it looks like he has good hands and is a pretty sharp player overall. Good luck to him at camp!
After watching so many clips of our defensive and O-line recruits - It was pretty cool watching some offensive skill position highlights. Love the smarts, love the commitment to the TEAM! Good Luck!
Welcome Michael. I look forward to seeing you in the Big House.
He's a future engineer, so he must be a great person!
Welcome aboard! Make us proud!
weight is correct. I ran track with Mike in high school...I'm around 180, and he has at least 25 pounds on me. He's pretty fast too. Definitely not elite speed, but he could turn into a solid tight end if he puts on another 20 to 30 pounds.
I got a 34 so he's not that smart.
Yeah but you're a sith lord. Unfair advantage: everybody knows the Empire controls collegeboard.
Not really, collegeboard does the SAT. The ACT is done by ACT, inc.
I got a 35. What now?
the kid has great hands. once he puts on some beef and learns the play book he might see the field.
Welcome aboard!!
If he sees the field on offense, we're in trouble.
Not if he's awesome.
You win.
I do believe we once said such things about a certain Mr. Kovacs. I'm not suggesting he is/will be that good, but anything is possible.
Anything is possible, true, but it would either take a huge leap from him or a huge dropoff from our other players. For his sake, I hope the former happens...but that's not very realistic.
It might mean we're doing really, REALLY well.
I have no problem with him playing in any game we're up 50.
I am reasonably new to the board, so forgive me if this was meant to be an MGoInsideJoke, but I believe you are missing a 'g' in 'Michian.' Great info otherwise.
Dude, you're extremely awkward. Welcome to the board though.
I proud! I like that 32, repping the Novi academic exellence. But seriously, congrats to him, and have fun running into a Novi student at least once a week. We (well they now, I am gone) are numerous in ann arbor!
Your post is a shining example of that Novi academic excellence.
I proud. I also a little drunk.
Join the club, go wildcats!
Read a random post on the board and there is about a 50/50 chance Magnus will show off that amazing stick up his ass.
Why do you insist on commenting on everything? Just let it go man. Comment on the original post if you feel the need to get your name on every thread on the board. I'm sure we would appreciate your critique of the young man's game.
I don't know why you care whether I post in a thread or not.
Of the 15 threads on the front page, I have commented in exactly 2 of them.
Apparently this guy has been waiting around for you to post just so he can bitch. And since you don't comment all that often, he's been waiting a while so it's past his bedtime and he's cranky ok?
I'm sorry.
