will be michigan's highest pick in a while
Hello: Deveon Smith
He's like Jim Brown, except when he's like Barry Sanders.
I'm not prone to hyperbole, but next to Deveon, Jim Brown and Barry Sanders are crap.
"You know, for a bartender/bookie, you're pretty judgmental."
He's tenacious like the Leprechaun from the Movies and he's got the speed of Chris Johnson.
"Are you an official here?Because you've officially given me a boner."
I'm spoiled. I was EXPECTING this post all day and was dissappointed when I didn't see it earlier.

Where is the next position the coaches will address? There is a methodical process the coaches are putting together, any guidance would be appreciated.

Im so glad we finally got a great back. Smash mouth football is finally gonna be back and I love it.
If at first you don't succeed, skydiving isn't for you.
Two more years of Fitzgerald Toussaint and probable 1,000 yard seasons isn't good enough for you?
He has OSU offer too. Hur hur
Not that I loved Rich Rod less, but that I loved Michigan more.
OSU offer chooses Michigan. Another win for the good guys.

Great news. Deveon is going to look great in the Big House, running over DBs.
Great news for a some what disappointing weekend. Not very familiar with Smith so is he the every down back type?
-Those who stay will be champions-
Welcome Deveon!!! I think if Isaac still wants to come to AA, he'll be welcomed. I think the staff probably leaves a couple of spots open just in case. It would be great to fill all the spots, but realistically I think the staff probably figures 20 spots for sure will be filled (probably by Easter at this rate). That leaves some room for surprise commits like Norfleet with this last class.
"The goal, the expectation of this program is the Big Ten Championship"
It pains me to say, but it looks like THE PARTY ROOM was right!
UGH, blind squirrel:acorn!
well this probably means isaac is out, but this is exactly the kind of rb borges is looking for. glad to have him.
It's been a lot. Its been a roller coaster that for some reason seemed like it would never get good. But you know what? We kept fighting. It's like that old saying goes, "Those Who Stay Will Be Champions." -David Molk
Imagine if we can get the number 7 RB and the number 1 RB to commit to Michigan.

I haven't watched one min of film on Deveon but did see his pictures on 247. Just going by his picture and his body type he looks like a Edwin Baker clone. Is his game similar?

Latest MM Post(3-22-13) DENARD ROBINSON SIGNED MY SONIC!
Minus the "fast" part.
We need some five star guys as well. No one here is going to be content without winning multiple national championships in the next decade.

Heck, I could run behind it and finish 6th for the Heisman.
We're good, people, and DeVeon is a great commit - GO BLUE!!
That guy's a fuckin beast. Can anybody tackle him? He just mauls dudes and gets touchdowns.
“We accept reality so readily, perhaps because we sense that nothing is real.”
Why all the Isaac talk? We just got an amazing recruit who could easily end-up being the best RB in this class, and looks to be--at worst--a 5 ypc guy that always gets tough yardage. He just doesn't go down.
Montee Ball was the #33 RB and not ranked nationally by Rivals.
Getting 5* recruits does NOT equal NC's.
Look at the Doak Walker Winners (Rivals rankings):
- LaMichael James 4* UNRANKED nationally
- Toby Gerhart 3*
- Shonn Greene 3*
- Darren McFadden 5*
- Reggie Bush 5*
- Cedric Benson 4* (Scout--couldn't find rivals)
Only two of the last six winners have been 5* players, and three of the six were unranked nationally.
The rankings don't mean nothing, but they sure don't mean everything, and DeVeon Smith looks like he could be a bigger, faster Mike Hart (as some have noted). I can't wait to have him as part of the family. Welcome DeVeon!
Thank you, Coach Hoke, for bringing Michigan back.
I don't know why I got downvoted for saying that that no one would be satisfied without winning multiple national championships ala USC, Florida, now Alabama. I never said anything about Deveon Smith in my post, but you're entitled to your own opinion if you like Michigan finishing 8th.

I don't get why you care about down voting, but since you do care, I upvoted you. In return, I would remind you, although w/ 1k points, you should already know:
- The votes don't affect your point total.
- Don't whine about downvotes. It is unseemly for you.
- Don't talk about points, period. It is a waste of time and space.

I'm guessing it had something to do with the fact that you said we NEED to get 5* players. Sorry, but I am more than happy with getting a class full of solid 4* players in a variety of positions that fit our system perfectly. Look at what Hoke/Mattison/Borges did with players that they were unfamiliar with and didn't necessarily have the skillsets that they are used to having. These guys know what they're doing and this class has been absolutely outstanding so far, even the lower ranked guys fill holes and give us depth and versatility. Look at a player like Khalid Hill for example, he might not be the highest rated guy on the board but he is going to be playing multiple positions for us (TE, FB, Hback) and while you won't hear his name mentioned at any end of the year awards banquets (most likely) that is exactly the kind of players you need on your team to win NC's and succeed in the B1G.
TL;DR: I'll take our coaches analysis on what we need to win more than some faceless person on the interwebs.
Great teams are able to have this work. Wisconsin, Oregon, LSU, Alabama, USC. Throughout history all the good running games have all had more than one. Having two top 7 backs with a power back(Shallman-Peyton hillis type hopefully) and Norfleet (SLOT-just think Tavon Austin from West Virgina when they scored 70). Would love to have Gayle Sayers (Isaac) and Demarco Murray (Smith) in the backfield for the Maize n Blue. By the way Demarco Murray went pro and has a nice 4 yr/2.97mil deal with a 600K signing bonus. Man Smith runs just like him.
but wtf is upvoting and downvoting and how do you do that?
I don't know how the screen varies when you have less than 100 points. But yes, at 100 points, you are able to press the moderate button. There is a small window of choices next to the moderate button:
- Normal
- Offtopic
- Flamebait
- Trolling
- Redundant
- Insightful
- Interesting
- Informative
- Funny
- Overrated
- Underrated
Six of these choices result in a positive vote. Five result in a negative vote. Positives range from 1 - 5, negatives, from 0 to -1. If negative, you can use the "hide negative posters script" which collapses their comment, so you only see the header. Personally, I usually don't use this script, because sometimes it is worth reading a post with a negative moderation.
Until a little more than a year ago, voting on posts directly affected your user point total. Some mgousers really pine for this feature to return. (It allowed users to pop other users up or down, sometimes quite significantly.) This is why some users have huge positive point totals. Generally, witty or humorous posts, inside info, and good analysis posters would quickly accumulate points. The downside is that it also allowed for the worst in group think to happen. Sometimes, posters who received negative "votes" would have a meltdown and start a flamewar. They eventually received the "banhammer," and their mgouser privileges were revoked. Since this feature was removed, I have seen fewer epic meltdowns.
Now, you accumulate points only for each post you put up. The exception is putting up something that is so tremendous that it is bumped to the front page. The moderators, of course, reserve the right to add (or delete) huge amounts of points. This feature of the mods is sometimes used to give a poster who puts up something which is very offensive a negative 10,000 score, for a week or two or more. This is called "going to Bolivia" or "going to Bolivian." (I think a poster confused "Oblivion" with "Bolivian" and the rest is mgohistory.)
"It does not matter how many times you get knocked down, but how many times you get up." Vince Lombardi
That is interesting stuff. I wondered how people managed such huge point total. I know some people are avid posters, but 5 posts a day would still not total 2000 points in a year. I told my son when he turns 3 he can start his own account so that he can get a jump start on a massive point total.
Hail!
at 100 points you can moderate

His film kind of reminds me of Mark Ingram. Quick feet and powerful. Also similar in that they are both not the fastest but are always breaking tackles.
Ingram was a bit faster.
With the high quality defense Hoke and Mattison are building and the o-line coming in, I love the idea of our offense adding a tough, bruising back like Smith so it can ball-control and just beat teams to death.
Also, when the fancy graceful stuff isn't working we're really going to appreciate how effective a lot of kinetic energy moving in a straight line is.
We have plenty of 5 star players on the team Dymonte Thomas, Shane Morris etc. Name a team that has won a NC without a single 5 star player. That's right you can't.

16 Commits for a recruiting class that won't officially sign letters of intent for another 11 months!!! That is bizarre!!! The fact that 13-14 of them are already 4 Stars and there may be a couple blooming concesus 5 Stars in the group as well is AMAZING. You sure wish this was a year you had 25-26 slots instead of 21-22.
If we do take Ty as a 3rd RB and then Levenberry as a 3rd LB, doesn't that leave us too few slots for our remaining needs in the Secondary and Defensive Line? Nonetheless, great work on the part of the Michigan Coaching Staff. I don't know how they are creating the urgency with the recruits to sign, but it is great to see.
Keep it going BLUE!!!
In case you're interested, here are my thoughts on Smith's commitment:

DeVeon must be Irish..good pickup..and that is said from a guy who watches him live every week.

Great pick-up! Looking forward to seeing him trucking over defenders in the future. Needed this after a rough weekend.
...will be champions
