Im too lazy to look it up but I did see that article too. Ty basically said that he encourages competition and another back committing wont discourage him from a team. I like how Smith just plows people over but I like Isaac's top end speed more, so I would have preferred Ty Isaac especially with Shallman being the run you over back.

Ace discussed it in his recruiting roundup yesterday:

“Competition makes you better. If you don’t have someone behind you pushing you to be better, you might get sloppy.  If I’m the only back in the class, yeah that’s cool with me… but if I’m not, it’s not a turnoff and I’m not scared of it. I would expect people to be disappointed in me if I was talking like that. As a coach if I heard somebody say that, I’d understand.  But at the same time, to me that sounds like you’re scared of competition.”

I really wasn't impressed with Green's highlights.  For someone as big and fast as he reportedly is, he didn't run with nearly the power and balance that Smith does.  Green seemed to run right into people and almost leave his feet a bit - often falling forward, but rarely keeping his feet.  And I did not see what looked like funcitonal 4.4 speed at all.

He sorta looked like Carlos Brown Plus, to me.

Green has good speed (clearly not his listed 40 time though) but he likes to go right for contact, which I think is a good thing but you don't really get to see him in the open field, which is why I think people think less of him than Smith and Isaac.  Most importantly, Green's got very good acceleration and quick, clean cuts.  He keeps the legs churning and falls forward, as you say.  That's what I look for in a RB.

Smith seems stiff to me and I don't see him making any lateral cuts in his clips.  Also, it looks like he gets caught up to, rather than going straight for contact like Green.  Isaac is anyone's guess - every play in his reel is him hitting a hole off tackle and being completely alone thereafter.  Then again, nobody's paying me for my opinion on HS running backs.

I mostly agree with what you're saying, but I think I'm interpreting it differently (and, like you, no one would give me money for my YouTube watching skills.)  The only thing I differ on is that I don't think Green keeps his feet moving at contact at all - he almost launches directly into players, stopping his feet and literally falling forward.  It's like he's not even trying to  break a tackle and keep his feet.  Maybe he can be coached out of that, but Smith seems to have better instincts in his tape. If your RB never seems to find a way to the open field, that's a problem.  I do agree that Smith does not have great lateral quickness, however.

A bit tangential, but one of the things that makes me happy about Smith (and this would be true of Green, too) is that, unlike Isaac, we're taking him away from OSU and the rest of the B1G.  He seems like the sort of guy who would end up killing us if he played in conference.  Isaac, hopefully, will end up far, far away if he doesn't come to AA.

Personally, I'd rank them as 1) Isaac, 2) Smith, 3) Green - but all are definitely talented dudes.   I may have sounded a bit harsh on Green.  And maybe, just maybe, that's slanted a bit because I feel like he's going to end up in Columbus.

He looks to be a runaway beer truck; With a behemoth line and that dude running between them, even Wisconsin is going to be green with envy. I can see what the coaches see in this guys running style; he may not be the fastest guy on the field but those that are faster don't bring him down to easily...

I do not think we will add another RB now that we have Smith.  I am really pumped!  It would have been tough to see him across the field for another team.  Now he can do the punishing for us.

Not sure why I got downvoted for that but whatever. I agree with you. Ty is a beast and will probably be awesome. I am just more excited about Deveon, I'm excited to see him running safeties over and making them fart out the mouth and talk out their butt ... 100 MGoPoints to whoever gets the movie reference.

had a hunch he would jump on it with Isaac taking his time. I didn't think we could go wrong with either guy so sweet.
