A self-proclaimed “late bloomer,” Terech didn’t start playing linebacker until midway through his junior year.

He spent much of his senior season under the radar as he led the state in tackles, and the Hornets to their first state championship appearance.

Article also mentions he had offers from Davidson and Ivy League schools.

...back when the high school had a corn field next to the soccer pitch, back when the middle school was the high school, back when you could drive past the police station, count the cars, and know you were safe to be stupid.

That seems like a long, long time ago.  Stupid years.

The worst part of that is it was a piece of land that could not have possibly been profitable unless it was used for feed (and even then, not too much) and yet someone mysteriously came by and farmed the damn thing. Of course, at one point, the police station, Saline Public Access and 14B District Court were all in that oh so ghetto building (well, it was then) just down the street.

Sounds like an eventually valuable special teamer.  Hopefully, the ceiling is Kovacs type Football Player that Harbaugh seems especially adept at developing.

Kovacs was absolutely amazing.  My point was that Chris Terech wishes his ceiling was Kovacs.  People want to use Kovacs as a comparison for every walk-on, but that's not realistic. Kovacs was a once in a lifetime walk-on.  We would be lucky if Tyree Kinnel's ceiling was Kovacs.  Do we have any evidence to suggest Chris Terech's ceiling is an NFL safety?

The problem is... We absolutely have no clue what his ceiling is, so there's no point in debating it. He could end up better than Kovacs (I doubt Kovacs was/will be the best walk-on that ever played football), or he could never play a snap. We just don't know. I know that with Harbaugh's help he is probably more likely to hit his ceiling than with most coaches.

OK fine, but that could be said about any recruit.  My point is simply that as long as we're speculating, it makes sense to be somewhat realistic.  Every single walk-on does not have the ceiling of "best walk-on we've ever had."

Ugh, let it go.  He's simply trying to say "I hope this kid outperformw the typical 'walk-on' and ends up being a major contributor like [one of our great walk-ons of recent memory.]"  It was intended as a compliment to both players.  Stop trying to read anything more into it.

I'm usually very picky about titles being informative, but you take it to quite the extreme.  A kid committed to Michigan football.  Hence the Hello post.  The first line I mention he's a preferred walk-on LB from Saline.

Would you not have clicked the title if it said (Pref. walk-on)?

I probably don't care either way, but I'm guessing there are a lot of guys who read this blog who don't know that Terech was a preferred walk-on candidate and not, say, a 4-star linebacker from California. Typically, when I see a "Hello: ___________" I get excited for at least a second or two. But ultimately, these walk-ons typically end up playing special teams at best.

I do think it would be helpful to write "Hello: Preferred walk-on Chris Terech" or "Hello: PWO Chris Terech" or something like that. But it's basically picking nits.

I ceartainly am nit picking, and I know I am being "that guy", but I follow recruiting only through this board. And I am very happy for Chris Terech, so I'd rather not elaborate on why I think adjusting the title would be a good idea in a thread celebrating him joining the team.

Not a big deal.

I don't read every thread, and yeah most days I might not have opened it.  You have to admit that there's a difference between picking up an actual scholarship commitment and picking up a walk-on.  Yes, sometimes walk-ons turn into contributors and, in rare instances, starters.  But almost always we never see them contribute in any meaningful fashion.

If it was an actual commitment, that's something worth learning about since there's a solid chance he's a starter one day.  Don't act like the two are equal in everyone's eyes.  There's a reason the sites that make money on recruiting don't cover the walk-ons.

But I don't understand the point of people bitching about it not in the title when it's the first sentence.

Most people on this site are very passionate fans and want to no about a walk-on, dance off, macaroni marketing and everything else.

It says he's a walk on in the damn first sentence yet 14 people have to bitch about it.

Would you have avoided the post if it said walk-on in the title? The answer is no Wolvin your a die hard like all of us maybe even more so.

If it was posted at a different time, I would not have clicked.  I skip LOTS of threads.  And sometimes I'm reading in areas with poor cell reception.  So I appreciate informative thread titles.

I've been frustrated multiple times when I open a hello thread only to find some poster had a kid.  I've got no problem with those posts, but I'd prefer the title was "Look at my kid I just had" so I know not to click it when I'm busy and just trying to catch up on important stuff.

This kind of shit is the worst.  He's part of the team, end of story.  Sorry you had to "waste" an extra five seconds of you life to click through for a "walk-on".

I sincerely hope this kid doesn't read the board so he doesnt have to find out what Michigan "fans" really think.

I mean, it's not likely a kid from Saline who committed to UM would have ever heard of MGoBlog right?

Welcome to a progran that has a history of walk ons who've excelled. Best of luck and however things go with the football program, welcome to Michigan a university of excellence which offers you the opportunity to achieve beyond your dreams, whether on the field or elsewhere.

Welcome young man to what I hope will prove to be 4 or 5 of the very best years of your life.

There's good training, coaching, and nutrition to more kids than ever before. You can absolutely add talented players as Walk ons, and in some cases they go Onto the NFL.
