Carl Myers, a 6'3 260-pound DE from Grand Rapids, has committed to Michigan as a preferred walk-on.

Myers played both defensive end and tackle at Grand Rapids West Catholic. He will also pursue track (Edit: shot and disc) at U-M.

you truly can't underestimate the strength of having great walk-ons. Even if they didn't have a ton of other options it's great as it spreads the net of finding good players, adds depth and - at worst - strengthens your starters in practice. Tons of great players slipped into being walk-ons.

For sure I think it's becoming readily apparent with the attrition on our Dline. I'd love to see as many of these kinds of pickups as possible. Clearly can never have enough of these types of hungry, athletic defensive linemen

The potential for track speed off the edge? I don't foresee many complaints about that at all. I certainly wouldn't anyway.
