Hello: Blade Jenkins - 2018 Hockey
Michigan hockey received its first commitment born in 2000 when Forward Blade Jenkins announced he would attend UM. He is 14 years old and the son of current Compuware coach Todd Jenkins.
Blade is currently 5'10" and weighs 155 lbs.
I now feel so old.

Go work at an elementary school and ask the kids when they were born. Still gets me every day.
But this is crazy too. He's got an awesome name though. Perfect for hockey.
January 10th, 2015 at 11:41 PM ^
were serious. Then I realized who his father was and it made sense. He does have a great name.
January 10th, 2015 at 11:59 PM ^
I had when I saw the title.

thinking he was maybe making a joke about a future coach or assistant coach since that's been the recruiting we've been focusing on the last few days. Then I remembered it's now 2015. And did the math. Egad.

Born in 2000. That even makes me feel old.
January 11th, 2015 at 12:18 AM ^
The year 2030 is closer to us than the year 2000. How messed up is that?
January 11th, 2015 at 12:47 AM ^
I'll be 38 0.0 ... this thread is giving me a quarter-life crisis
January 11th, 2015 at 9:53 AM ^
If 38 is 1/4 of your life, I feel for you man. I hear your hundred teens are some real rough, transormative years.
January 11th, 2015 at 9:59 AM ^
Why would you say that... Now I feel old and only 16.

January 10th, 2015 at 11:49 PM ^
That kid was born to play hockey!
January 10th, 2015 at 11:54 PM ^
I was about to say. Is this a fake name? Sounds like a made up name for hockey haha

Almost as good of a name as Gunnar Stahl.
January 10th, 2015 at 11:55 PM ^
He's a HOF. Incredible talent. Dominated the Iceland pond hockey circuit.

Gunnar Stahl is a good one, but if I could only take one name off that team it'd have to be Wolf "The Dentist" Stansson.
Anyway, here's an interview with Gunnar Stahl from 2013. Apparently they let the D2 cast play a real scrimmage and 16,500 people showed up. Pretty crazy.

And congratulations! You made a wise choice!
Go Blue!

Still amazing to me to think that someone that old sees 9/11 as a historical event and not something they vividly remember happening
Anyway, welcome aboard

Exactly. He is the same age as my oldest son! Feeling really old....
January 11th, 2015 at 12:13 AM ^
Remember the daughter in Panic Room?

Just moved ahead of Jake Butt for best Michigan student-athlete name.

Sincerely,

Hockey recruiting is so weird.
January 11th, 2015 at 3:19 AM ^
Now if his game matches the awesomeness of the name in a few years he'll be in business!

i love seeing southeastern michigan hockey talent stay home and go to um. having grown up playing at yost, quite a bit, i wish i had this opportuinity at his age. special player. special program.
January 11th, 2015 at 7:26 AM ^
the kids had 2 choices for a career: hockey player or leading antagonist in an 80s teen movie.
he chose wisely

whither, William Zabka?
January 11th, 2015 at 7:46 AM ^
The guy's name is Blade?!?! That's fantastic. A welcome addition if only for his name.

Like others, I take this as a sign that I am passing slowly into "old-ish" territory. This kid will be 18 years old and taking his first classes at Michigan at a point when I'll be then 40 years old and 18 years removed from my graduation at Michigan. I told my wife recently that the second sign of "veteran young guy" status ending (the first being the look on my daughter's face when I explained to her what video games looked like when I was eight like her) was talk about recruits and commitments from kids born after I graduated. Well, it has happened.
January 11th, 2015 at 9:39 AM ^
Don't feel too bad about our generations video games. My brother in law has original Nintendo and my lil 5 year old before would rather play punch out and Mario instead of ps4. I think it's the cartoon look and cool music that hooks him, not to mention we like it, so he wants to be like the cool kids.
January 11th, 2015 at 10:00 AM ^
Also...
Nintendo and Atari games were simple to understand and you could play a game from start to finish in 10 minutes if that is all the time you had. These days there are five hours of plot and storyline and "this is how the game works" crap. I miss the good old days of space invaders, galaga, centipede ad Mario.

Seems like 2018 is a long way off for a 14 year old to commit to anything.......
January 11th, 2015 at 8:23 AM ^
"Blade?! That's your NAME?!"
January 11th, 2015 at 8:24 AM ^
Hockey is a little different than other sports. This kid probably knows what he wants.
January 11th, 2015 at 1:14 PM ^
Blade. Absolutely.
January 11th, 2015 at 8:43 AM ^
movie poster photoshoped with him on it in the future.

Blade of Glory!
January 11th, 2015 at 10:39 AM ^
I see "Voltron" has been around just long enough to downvote the OP.
Once again, he left no intelligent explanation why.
January 11th, 2015 at 10:44 AM ^
Wow! Blade seems to have been groomed for this. I hope to hear his name a lot when watching the games in a few years.
January 11th, 2015 at 11:19 AM ^
Too bad Spike will have graduated by the time Blade gets on campus. I think they would have been friends.
January 11th, 2015 at 1:23 PM ^
Shouldn't New Line Cinemas be suing him for copyright infringement?
January 11th, 2015 at 1:31 PM ^
I hope we are offered to 2017 linebacker prospect Nails Dirt.
January 11th, 2015 at 2:31 PM ^
Compuware coach? What does that mean?
