Hello: Becca Garfinkel (SB)

Submitted by MGoSoftball on

The M SB team picked up a very valuable player this fall by adding local talent Becca Garfinkel to the team.  Becca played catcher for Andover High School in  Bloomfield Hills Mi for coach Mike Voytal.  Open tryouts were held 12SEP11.

I wanted to get her introduced to the MGoCommunity as the last player added to the team  and before all he!! breaks loose after the big win this weekend against Lil' Bro.  She is listed at 5' 6" although I think this might be deceivingly low.  I watched her play basketball this past year as she plays a mean guard.  Her athleticism gives her a huge advantage.

Becca tried out for the team and to her delight, was awarded a full acedemic scholarship by Coach Hutchins.  In Division 1 NCAA softball, teams are restricted to awarding 12 full-ride scholarships.  Typically coaches will give pitchers and seniors the full-rides and split the remaining scholarship dollars amoung the position players.

Becca is listed on the roster as a catcher but we already have 2 fulltime catchers along with Amanda Chidester who was started at catcher at the begining of last year until Stephanie Kirkpatrick injured her knee.  This forced Chiddy to play 3rd and C. Blanchard to catch as a freshman.

Now that Blanchard has one year of experience, and Lauren Sweet is in the fold, Becca will get playing time in other positions.  Voytal said,  “Becca is different because she is absolutely one of the most well-rounded players I’ve ever had.  The one thing I always found encouraging about her was, other than being on the pitching mound, I could put her anywhere on the field and I knew that she’d do well.  The sky is the limit for Becca, if she puts her mind to anything she can do it.”

This give Coach Hutchins a much needed player to replace last year's senior, utility player Alicia Ryan. Hucht does a great job of adding local talent to the team  As many of you know, the Michigan High Schools do not produce the top talent as they do out west and down south.  This is due to the fact that weather limits us in teh Mid-west whereas not in the warmer climates.

Welcome Becca to Michigan, and we all hope you enjoy your stay.  And remember,  Its Great to be A Michigan Wolverine.

First - welcome Becca and Go Blue.

On a lighter note did is it just me or did anyone else have wicked visions of a mix of Art Garfunkle and Finkle from Ace Ventura go through their heads when they read her name?

No, but it reminded me of one of my fantasy pseudonyms.

Congrats, Becca, and welcome!

I used to wonder the same thing.  Now I have a two year old daughter and I see 15 years in the future at some middle aged guy checking her out and it makes me sad/pisses me off, maybe not in that order.  You of course may not be a middle aged man.  You may not be a man at all (NTTAWWT).  It's just another way becoming a parent changes your life.

Nothing like displaying your Neanderthal limitations for all to see. I come to this site for the quality posts, which this decidedly is not. You, sir, are NOT a Michigan man. Go to another site with that silliness. Becca, if you read this, pay no attention to this man. Congratulations and we'll look forward to a great four years from you.

A "Hello" post without a fake-40 time?  Man, things around here are slipping!

Looking forward to bringing my little girl to see Becca play at Alumni Field in the near future.

I'm fairly sure the umpire would have to disallow her running if they couldn't actually see her crossing the plate, so she might have to slow it down a notch from dilithium.

The one time she was allowed to steal second, third and home before anyone noticed she left first would be epic, though.

She's really not very hot in my opinion.

And you know, it's a fair question if she's hot or not. We ask the same thing about male athletes. Have you all forgotten OMG SHIRTLESS TIM TEBOW?
