Well, first and foremost, welcome to Michigan, Antwaine Richardson.

Second, there is a vague buzz on Twitter that this could be a nice weekend for Michigan at the camps - hopefully, that's the case. It will be very interesting once these are over to take stock of the classes as they sit actually.

Glad I never unbuckled and have been sitting in my garage for the last week. MgoWife has been bringing me food and water to keep me alive. I'll remain buckled up until the summer swarm ends.

I really don't think players get that much faster in college unless their strength and conditioning is very bad in high school.

You're talking about 40 times at the NFL Combine, which typically means there are about four months where NFL-bound players train specifically for the 40-yard dash. They get better technique, better starts, and build up the proper musculature and flexibility.

If your logic is followed, every kid who runs a 4.7 is going to be running a 4.5 or maybe a 4.6 by the time they make it to the Combine. But that's simply not the case. Donovan Peoples-Jones just ran a 4.45, so now he's going to run a 4.25 or a 4.35 in four to six years?

The bottom line is that Richardson isn't very fast. And even if he improves that time, so will all the other guys he's playing against, so he will still not be very fast in comparison.

Whether it's 100% accurate or not, it indicates that players do not get significantly faster in college. If Richardson is a 4.7 guy now, he will probably not be a whole lot faster at Michigan's pro day or at the Combine in five years.

Dont like the logic of "he is higher rated than Dennard"... that applies to probably 100 corners a year.  Dennard was a 2 star.  99% of those dont become first round draft picks.

Waynes was track fast and Dennard was football fast.  This kid is not.  He looks like he loves contact and physical action which is good but you dont teach speed - it can be increased incrementally.  Hopefully he can get closer to 4.6ish at some point.

Just stating facts.

Second - this kid looks like a pretty decent CB on film. He's flying all over breaking up passes and more impressively, coming up to stop the run. I love physical corners and he looks the part there. Does not shy away from contact and closes on the ball quickly.
I think quickness is arguably more important than outright speed as a DB. This kid looks like he has adequate speed and great quickness which will allow him to recover and make up ground or shift to run stopping with ease.
I think the Dennard comparison is a fair one.

You might be surprised... a lot of sprinters actually get a bit SLOWER in college football.

As for Dennard running a 4.51 in HS -

Darqueze Dennard finished 2nd in the state of Georgia in the 100m his senior year, running a 10.72

Denard Robinson had a PB of 10.56 in HS.

I have to believe that Harbaugh knows what he's doing. Sure, I'd love to see him reeling in 4-5 star kids, but if the wins come rolling in, those kids will follow as well.

Richardson looks big, fast, and perhaps most importantly, physical. He seems to have all the right traits. Have to believe that Harbaugh can coach him up once he gets on campus.
