Heisman Race Question

Submitted by Adrian on
Ive been watching a couple videos with the updated Heisman race and when Barkley was mentioned i was immediately excited since i thought Forcier would follow. They didnt even mention him tho which was dissapointing. This topic might of been disscused already but i couldnt find it.So I wanted to ask why is he in there or more like why isnt Forcier included to. I mean look at the stats.I understand its early in the season but I just wanted to know why he was included in there Tate Barkley Games: 2 2 QBRat: 161.7 134.5 Att: 53 50 Comp: 36 30 Pct: 67.9 60.0 Yds: 419 428 Y/A: 7.9 8.6 Y/G: 209.5 214.0 TD: 5 1 Int: 1 1 Long: 44 44 Sack: 2 3 Yds: -9 -16 RUSHING Car: 24 10 YDs: 107 3 Td: 1 0

...because he is the USC QB and he just won the most watched game in ESPN history. He was a bigger story coming into the season because, unlike Michigan who basically had to start a freshman QB, Barkley managed to beat several veterans to get the starting job for USC. Furthermore, Forcier's performance against ND is not held in high regard by many in the sports media who are wary of Notre Dame thanks to the Charlie Weis era, particularly on defense. It's not fair, but on the other hand it is very early in the discussion and the race will ultimately change down the road as more games are played.

and neither one of them is going to win the heisman (this year). We all need to calm down, folks. We won one game against a bad team easily, and one game by the skin of our teeth against a team that might be really good (which means we're really good too!) or maybe more average. Let's not go booking hotels in pasadena and wherever the hell they have the heisman award ceremony just yet.

I didnt say Forcier was gonna win the Heisman. I was just starting a conversation on this slow Wednesday morning. Honestly one person brings up something a little too out of the reach of Michigan and everyone starts complaining why shouldnt we think Forcier can win it?

The "experts" (E.G. Mark May, Lou Holtz, Lee Corso, etc...) loves everything that USC does. They feel that USC is the greatest thing since sliced bread, which means they ignore the better stats of Forcier and focus almost exclusively on Barkley

has a shot at the National championship and often the heisman goes to the qb or rb on one of the best teams rather than to the actual best player, hence Barkley gets into the discussion not because of his performance but because of position and team. How many times has the heisman trophy winner went #1 in the draft or even first in the draft at their position? Not many.

Let's stop talking about "Forcier for Heisman" until at least, I dunno, the second half of the season. Heisman talk after 2 games is ridiculous, let alone talking about a freshman.
