In MLS there have been multiple instances of it.
In fact, in MLS there has only been one year in which the MLS Cup did involve two teams with names ending in "s": 2010, when the Colorado Rapids beat FC Dallas.
But it's the only league with a name ending in "s".
FC Dallas really shouldn't count.
Yeah, you wouldn't exactly refer to a single player on the team as an "FC Dalla."

I don't know if you can really count the two Sox teams. They're plural names, just with goofy abbreviated spellings.
I never paid attention...but that is stupid. What's "sox"? It's not accepted in any way, shape or form when you're writing. In fact, it's not even used as slang the way "shox" might be used in place of "shocks."
No one says, "I'll be there in a minute, putting my sox on now."
Not only is your team's nickname an article of clothing...it's not even spelled correctly.
my grandmother has a book where her father or grandfather logged all of his expenses. each line lists some expense like groceries or farm tools or clothing. i only read a few pages, but one of the entries was for "sox." (after i saw that, i felt like i'd learned the most important thing i was going to learn, so i stopped.)

Well there are only 9 teams that don't end in the letter s:
NBA:Oklahoma City Thunder, Miami Heat, Orlando Magic, Utah Jazz,
MLB: Boston Red Sox, Chicago White Sox,
NHL: Colorado Avalanche, Tampa Bay Lightning, Minnesota Wild
So Baseball is impossible off the bat, as both teams are in the AL. In hockey, the Avalanche is the only team in the western conference, and they have played neither the Lightning nor the Wild in the finals.
For basketball: The Thunder is a 'new' team, and they have never played in the finals, so they're eliminated off the bat. The Heat has only ever played the Mavericks in the finals (2006 and 2011) so they're eliminated. The Jazz have only played the Bulls twice and finally the Magic has never played a finals against an s-less team.
So yes. This is the first.

The Nordiques had no history?? And when the team is gone, what difference does the owner's intent make? The Nordiques' new Denver owners' "intent from the beginning" was also to move the team, they just did it faster. How's that make it better?
If the fans had ever bothered to show up to Seattle games, and if the city would have built a new arena, you probably wouldn't have lost the team. Getting tired of listening to all the Seattle fans still crying about this crap when it was their fault to begin with.
I honestly would have preferred that you kept the team, since the mere presence of an NBA team causes a rise in the local crime rates. You know about the shootings after Game 5 with the Lakers? Yeah, I'd rather you take them back.
Fans did show up and the arena had recently been renovated. Bennett had no intention of keeping the team in Seattle. He demanded a $500 million arena knowing there was no way he could get it. That was his plan. I hate the NBA but this whole this was bullshit and every Sonics fan should be allowed to kick Stern squarely in the junk for allowing it happen.
You can't fault Seattle fans. First, their attendance wasn't bad. Second, Key Area had been renovated just a decade earlier. There are even YouTube clips of David Stern, circa 1996, saying how much he loves Key Arena. Ten years later, he claimed it was obsolete.
Seattle was simply a case of a guy buying the team with the intention of moving it. The fans weren't the problem. The previous owner should have done his homework before selling to a guy from Oklahoma City.
...as someone mentioned, but I believe that this is also the first time in an NBA final anyway (perhaps in the other major sports too) where one team's name has a causal relationship to the other team's name, at least under certain conditions.

One could also argue that the '78 NBA Finals (Washington Bullets vs. Seattle SuperSonics) fits that category. It's just a crying shame we'll never see a Wizards-Magic Finals.
Actually, the more I thought about it, I realized that Tigers-Cubs World Series have occured a few times throughout the history of the MLB, but of course the female has to be receptive to mating for this to work.

To be fair though it is going to be an interesting series. Either James/Wade/Bosh or Durant & crew are going to win their first title. That alone is going to be fun to watch. I'm not an NBA fan but I'll probably make some effort to try catch the games.
I know you're referring to the Heat Trio, but Wade has already won one.
