Hearsay: Zoltan too good???

Submitted by jaggs on
Is Zoltan too good for his own good or is the punt coverage just poor? It seemed like Zoltan was outkicking the coverage on his punts, just wanted to know what others thought. Does he need more hangtime? Is the coverage bad? It costed us some field position. Also, let me know if I am off base for even bringing this up with a good ole fashioned neg-banging...

Seemed to me that he was outkicking his coverage, but I always feel like that's kind of a copout excuse for poor punt coverage. He definitely was getting under the ball tonight, perhaps more consistently than he has his entire career. Every punt was a bomb.

I complained about the 15-20 punt returns all night. The first guy would miss every time. Five yards later, someone else would miss. Finally, the rest of the team would show up to stop him after another eight yards.

I believe it was a little bit of both. I really think the kicking coverage looked really really slow. I know Zoltan was booting the ball a very long way, but they also had pretty long hang times. Only 1 or 2 guys ever got down field, and they were usually slow and less than stellar in the athleticism department. I don't think this is on Zoltan though overall. The Gunners really need to get down there....

The stats may tell a brighter story, but I see why you say this. I kind of think the coverage was only so-so.... Don't think Z necessarily outkicked it, I can remember several times where there was 1 or 2 people there, but missed the tackle on the returner. Even with those mistakes, it's quite possible our net punting numbers were still good given Z's booming leg, but, in the future it'd be better if we can execute on punt coverage and capitalize more effectively on the advantage Z gives us.

Something was off with the punt team. Tonight Zoltan seemed to be outkicking his coverage. That's not usually a problem for him. Or maybe Iowa's return team just blocks really well. I don't know.
