Heads need to roll...

Submitted by umgrad2001 on
I'll start off by saying that I believe RR and GR will be, at minimum, with Michigan through the end of next season. Making a change now at HC or DC will only set us back further then we already are. I don't think Mary, Bill, or the new AD-to-be is prepared to make a move any sooner (barring an unlikely NCAA major violation infraction). With that being said, it is obvious that futher defensive changes need to be made. I think it's time that RR replaces Jay Hopson and Tony Gibson. Clearly these two coaches (in particular) are not getting the job done on the field or in recuiting. They are a liability. Facing the likely risk of missing a bowl for a second straight year and finishing 5-7; you would think at least one head has to roll. Hopefully, it's two. Were Michigan, god damn it! Were giving up 31.7 ppg and 1-5 in the Big Ten; makes me sick.

I'm sure that Coaches Gibson and Hopson are too. I'm pretty sure that everyone associated with Michigan football is sick of it. But for you to say that "This is unacceptable this is not Michigan Football" and to not realize the circumstances that these coaches are working with is "unacceptable" on your part. As Sharik and others have said in this thread "you can't shoot a gun without ammo".

Giving up 32 points a game and losing should never be acceptable to any team, including Michigan. Sorry, man. If Williams and Kovacs suck SO bad week in and week out, why not start Van Slyke, Vladimir, Floyd, or even consider buring Turner's redshirt? Or move Woolfolk back and start Jones or Floyd. Something, anything. If all of that fails, if every possible combination fails, then clearly the problem is onlt the ammo. But if these coaches keep doing the same thing and expecting a different outcome... You also can't shoot a gun if the gun is broke, no matter how good the ammo is.

but instead coming from a person who shares your opinion. Is your position that RR and staff should get at least one more year coming from a place that expects a turnaround next year, or just that any head coach should have three years to prove themselves, etc. (or maybe your position is not that he should but only that he will) If firing RR now would set the program back two years, could waiting another year to do so set the program back five years? Just looking for your take on things. My take, if the team seems as all primed for a turnaround and significant improvement, give him another year, and another if need be. However, if the third year is just because "head coaches should have three years" because that is how it works and it should continue, not so fast my friend...

And scoring 32 points per game. Subtract out the DSU game farse and Michigan is scoring only 25.7 ppg. As far as "heads needing to roll", if any do I hope Greg Robinson has a say, since many of his underlings are actually RR's nepotistic carryovers from West Virginia: Hopson (LBs) and Gibson (Secondary) don't have much to work with in terms of depth and talent, but as far as developing talent over 2 years, they're scoring D's right about now. It's also very interesting how teams will far less talent (MSU, Wisconsin, Northwestern, Iowa) can still put together presentable performances at LB and secondary while Michigan's defense collapses.

Love your blog and your insights. But, not for nothing, if you're going to take out the DSU, then can you also figure out our scoring average for nine games. You're still dividing by 10 to get that 25.7 figure. We're averaging just over 28 points a game, if you take out DSU. That's still more than 8 points a game from last year. We already are so close to masking our current defensive weaknesses with the O and true freshmen QB. Another jump in scoring per game for next year might be enough to mask the defensive weaknesses. It would mean a couple more wins than we have now. Those other programs have five full recruiting classes of defenders on their rosters, btw. They have better personnel than us simply having more of it.

"We already are so close to masking our current defensive weaknesses with the O and true freshmen QB. Another jump in scoring per game for next year might be enough to mask the defensive weaknesses. Not only that, but start removing one or two (of the 3 or 4) of the big plays our defense gives up every game and you're already looking at a pretty big turnaround.

We get it. Everyone needs to be fired. Let's stop rehashing this same idea. It's cluttering up the board, and it's old. This is not a novel idea.

Yeah clearly they need to go. Also the pass production at Florida has been horrible. So i think they need to fire whoever the hell is their QB coach, same goes for Oklahoma. Also USC's defense is terrible, did you see what Oregon did to them, they need to fire their new DC. No way these things could be from players who are young and just not that great? There are lots of problems that need to be addressed, but since we dont break down film and know the play calls, and what goes on in practice how the hell do we know who HAS TO BE FIRED!!!!!!!!!

We spent years blaming Lloyd for Debord, Herrman, and Moeller. Assistants are a reflection of the head coach. It's not an "old debate" on a Michigan football blog. Rodriguez had a TOTAL free pass after a 3-9 season, and was allowed even more leeway when he aced Shafer and brought in Robinson. It is now time for him to be held accountable for the state of the program, and I applaud those who do it. Besides, it's great fun! Debate is the nectar of the message board Godz.

"WE!!!!! should stay the course" That's the problem you think you have a say in this. Seriously, what are you going to do besides say stupid shit on a message board? There is no WE you drink beer and maybe play a little NCAA 10. WE have no clue what is going on. Armchair QB

I'm sure the coaches hadn't thought of starting Emilien or Van Slyke or Jones or Turner or Floyd. Once the peons in Schembechler Hall read your post and pass it on to Rodriguez, I'm sure he'll feel like a dimwit and install your proposed defense instantly. And thanks for pointing out that broken guns don't work. Your extension of the metaphor added a great deal to the conversation. Other things that don't work when broken: a) lawnmowers b) computers c) mechanical pencils d) tanks e) remote controlled airplanes f) bongs g) cell phones h) rowboats

you're going to get the scarlet letter and be shunned from ever posting here again by even suggesting RR will be out after 2010. I got my anger out on Sunday evening (actually, Saturday but then got banned; it was a whole big thing). Maybe to keep others from being shunned like us and to move forward, no more of the FIRE XX after midnight tonight.

Also, this thread is completely UNACCEPTABLE and should be fired immediately. It does not live up to the standard we have come to expect from MGoBoarders. I will not idly stand by while people continue to post UNACCEPTABLE things here. This is the interwebz for goodness sake. There are standards and they must be followed!

There is no way we can win with this thread, despite the many glaring deficiencies it has. You have to be honest: all of the deficiencies could/should have been overcome by the Original Post, and it just didn't happen. We need a new thread as soon as possible. Ideally before the Wisconsin game. It's the only chance we have. THIS THREAD HAS NOT DELIVERED. [/Devil's Advocate] I Want To Believe!

This place is unreal lately, if it bothers me I know I should just not click on stupid posts like this but come on... can't there just be some serious ban hammer action, or just not allow new accounts for a month or so.

Were Michigan, god damn it! Were giving up 31.7 ppg and 1-5 in the Big Ten; makes me sick. If we were Michigan, who are we now? It is good to know that we're no longer giving up 30+ points a game, though. Seriously, how did you graduate from Michigan and not learn how to use an apostrophe? Heads need to roll... Can we start with yours? :D

I opened this thread expecting to be disappointed and I was. Then, about the halfway point, found a great deal of entertainment. There really is nothing better on the MGOBoard then when veteran members team up to pour ridiculous amounts of sarcasm on an unsuspecting victim. Then on top of it, to bait the easily irritable victim into the ultimate comeback...."f*$k off". I am thoroughly entertained.
