Head to Head STATS: OSU and UM vs Rutgers

Submitted by superstringer on

Because you want to know... the head-to-head comparison of how OSU and UM's offenses and defenses did in back-to-back weeks against the same "opponent."  We generally did better on D and running the ball; OSU's pass offense clearly has a much better day than we did.  Also, they had the ball 5 minutes more than we did, and they never punted.  Whereas, we scored 3 TD's more than they did, and never had to kick a FG.

That game was tied 7-7 midway through the 4th quarter. Laviano passed for 190 yards, 30 more than Beathard.

Both teams rushed for 193 yards.

Don't know what Iowa's deal is. I get the sense they're playing crappy now just so they can finally not play like crap when they play us.

that led to a first and goal for Rutgers, and then they failed to score on the possession. The Scarlet Knights scored on a subsequent first half drive and so the game remained tied until very late in the 4th quarter. Ironically, a Jersey kid was the guy who scored the game-winning TD for Iowa. In fact, he is a very good and punishing runner with speed.

It was, what, one or two passes each for Morris and O'Korn in the second half? And those were early. Michigan did a couple of well-scouted pitchouts, that one sprint draw, some fullback runs with Henderson, and a bunch of stuff between the tackles. There is no way to try less hard to score.

No offense, but comparing how we did against Rutgers kind of makes it sound like you're scared of OSU and are trying to convince yourself however you can that Michigan will beat them. I'm certainly not saying they can't, but scoring 20 more points on Rutgers isn't the reason for that.

Losing 11 out of 12 can do that to a fan base... I hope Michigan can give either MSU or OSU or... Both the treatment Washington gave to Oregon last night... Talk about a decades worth of frustration and misery taken out on the field damn... Poor Brady Hoke.

if M won by 20, we'd be hearing about how much better OSU is than UM based on the comparison. i agree it means NOTHING, but neither will the WISC/OSU outcome.

howeva,we both know the comparisons WILL be made. both locally and nationally. how else do you compare until they play!?

so i like it because it shuts people up - a little.

btw - we all know the best team doesn't mean victory (see 1990's). so for now it's just a fun way to increase the hype.

I hesitate to glean anything from this - it doesn't necessarily mean that we can walk into Columbus and beat Urban so much as it means that Rutgers sucks and couldn't play a top 10 team close to save its life at the moment. I think the real test of probability insofar as we are concerned for a preliminary estimate of our shot against OSU is going to be their game against Wisconsin, mainly because we're sort of a faster Wisconsin in some respects. Again, no transitive property, but similar schemes (although Wisconsin is far less dynamic)....yeah, you'll get a little data.

I agree, this is basically the transitive property (although it's fun to look at) I actually would take more from OSU's game against IU yesterday, and how they had some real weaknesses exposed by a flawed Indiana team. There seems to be some anxiety around here that OSU is just as indestructible as last year but I think they are far from it. I know I know, I'm a homer blah blah.

This is comparing how badly Lebron James would beat a kindergartner to how badly Stephen Curry would. The stats are meaningless cuz that kid just crapped his pants and went home two seconds into the game.

This stuff doesn't matter, the only thing that matters is Wisconsin has had plenty of rest, an angry loss chip on the shoulder, and an axe to grind at home during primetime. Go get em boys!

Oklahoma.  As the season is progressing, I'm not necessarily of the opinion that Oklahoma is that much of a powerhouse this year.

I'd be really interested to see how OSU plays against Wisconsin this coming weekend.

I'm not sure how much even that game will tell us.  Different teams play each other differently.  We are a much better matchup for Wisconsin's D than Ohio State will be.  I don't expect them to hold Ohio State to 14 points or even the 23 we should have had.

It will be interesting though to see how Wisconsin's offense does against the Ohio State D.  The Ohio State D has quietly put together statistics on the level of our own.  Are they indeed that good?

Wisconsin is going to beat the shit out of the Suckeyes.  OSU has zero quality wins and it's a joke they are ranked higher than us.  Living on the fumes of last year they're gonna get exposed.
