Haylie Wagner named Freshman AND pitcher of the Year in B1G. Chiddy Player of the Year

Haylie Wagner and Amanda Chidester won some very prestegious awards late this week form the Big Ten Office in Chicago.

Haylie won the Freshmen of the Year as well as Pitcher of the Year.   Haylie had the best record in teh B1G for starting pitchers at 30-5.  She was second in ERA at 1.53.  Minny's Sara Moulton was 1.52.  Haylie was 3rd in OBA at .205.

Chiddy was named Player of the Year.  The senior from Allen Park Cabrini is a do-all type player.  Many people dont know this but she is a catcher converted to third converted to 1st base.  Chiddy had a .348 which is in the top 15.  She had 44 RBIs which is in the top15.  The most interesting stat is she scored 35 runs.  That is high for a #3 / #4 power hitter.  This shows how smart she is on the bases.

Her average is weighted down by a slow start.  She is now batting over .400 the last half of the season.  But that is the nature of averages: there is no such category as slump.

Congrats to both ladies.  We are very proud of you.  Keep up the good work in Louisville and we will see you in Oklahoma City.

I am such a fan of Michigan softball.  There is a lot of patronizing about Title XIX; but, for several years now, the Michigan women have been winning their Big 10 titles and competing nationally.  We have a lot to be proud of.

Sara will lead the league in an offensive category next year.  She will improve her pitching.  We will have the best 1-2 punch in the country.

Sara's dad is a HUGE Blue fan.  There is no way he will stand for her leaving college early.  They have a very close-knit family and decisions are made together.
