Haylie and Sara power SB to Mercy-Rule win

Submitted by MGoSoftball on

The weather was brisk and cold today as the few hundred spectators who braved the elements bundled themselves to stay warm.  It was a chilly 42F in AA today.   Coach Hutch looked like Kenny from South Park with her winter gear on.

The temperatures were certainly ice-cold but the pitchers were hot, hot, hot.  Haylie and Sara combined on a 3-hit performance for the Mercy-rule win against Bowling Green; 9-1.  Haylie was the starting and winning pitcher going 3 innings, giving up 0 runs on 1 hit.  She had 5 Ks and 0 BB with 1 HBP on the second pitch of the game.  Sara came on in the 4th and pitched 2 innings giving up 1ER on 2 hits with 3ks and 1BB.

The offense was led by Freshman Kelsey Susella.  She started at 1b and went 2 for 2 with 4 RBIs and a run scored.  Colie went 2 for 3 with 2 runs scored.  Caitlin Blanchard kept up her torrid pace by going 2 for 2 with 2 runs scored.  Jacklyn Crummy went 2 for 3 with an RBI.  Amy Knapp kept her contributions up by going 1 for 1 with an RBI and 2 runs scored.  Overall we had 10 hits.

Ashley Lane took a hot shot off the face off a line drive but was smiling when Coach went out to talk to her.  She appeared to be alright but she might have a shiner tomorrow.  This pushes our record to 25-7 entering a 3 game series at Penn State this weekend.

One more game, one more win.  Obviously we expect to roll a team like BGSU, but it's good to see us cruise this easily.  I was especially glad to see Wagner get some good innings in since she got a late start on the season.
