Has Lloyd weighed in on this yet?

If RichRod is running a violation-skirting [maybe] program, then Lloyd should say something.
If RichRod is running a clean but intense [highest team GPA] program, then Lloyd should say something.

I know Lloyd hates the media, but I find his general reticence to speak to the media about the school and players he coached for so long to be mildly irritating. He could defuse this stuff quickly by getting onto ESPN or something.

Carr has declined nearly every opportunity to comment specifically on the team since he retired. I sincerely doubt he'll do so now. It seems to me that Michigan has deployed the out-of-the-box protocol advised by any crisis communications professional and I imagine it's unlikely to include a role for Lloyd. So if he commented, it'd be outside that larger strategy and that seems terribly out of character for him.

So, no, I say.

I know it seems like forever. But, it has only been a little over 24 hours since the story broke and it is Sunday (for about 8 more minutes). Plus, I would hope Lloyd would want to get some more information before giving any statements.

Not sure if it will ever come but I am not surprised it hasn't come yet.

Man, a lot is being made of the 2008 squad's GPAs. It seems really desperate. It has nothing to do w/whether NCAA rules were violated. And all of those kids were Lloyd's anyhow.

Yeah Lloyd won't say anything; he's way too circumspect to get into this mess.

It does have a place in this issue because players alleged that their academics were being severely affected (negatively) by the workout schemes and football schedule. The fact that they had the highest GPA in M history seems to contradict that statement.

That's absolutely correct. The GPA is one of the few truly objectively verifiable facts in this story that is so full of gray areas, and it corroborates RR's side of things and discredits (to an extent) the snitch.

Plus, I love how in the transition from LC to RR, all of the positives are automatically attributed to Lloyd and the negatives to RR....

The team sucked last year, and most people (not speaking about MGoBoard rather the general populace here) blame RR for whatever reason, not Lloyd because the cupboards were bare.

And w/ the GPA, people jump to the conclusion that the GPA was high b/c it was Lloyd's players. It's automatically assumed that this very positive thing has more to do w/ Lloyd than RR.

He can't win! (In regards to public perception... And I'm speaking on a more general level here, not in specific reference to posters in this thread) No matter what happens, what he does or doesn't do, it seems like people find a way to spin things to make him look negative!

I really don't get why. Yeah, 3-9 is awful. Yeah, some people probably still pine for Miles, but damn. When is enough enough? RR seems like a really decent dude, who's obviously been very successful and will be (I believe, at least) at M, so what's the deal? It seems like there are quite a few people who just want to sabotage this man in any way possible, and I just don't get why.

I was only speaking to the assumption that many seem to have on this site: that RR's way of running things somehow resulted in the high GPAs. I highly doubt it.

And believe me, I also don't think they had high GPAs just because they were Lloyd's recruits.

I'm not against RichRod; I was just pointing out that the fact that they were Carr recruits weakens the effect of the GPA stat.

We should of course be skeptical of what the media spew out, but that skepticism should go both ways. I don't share the 100% sunny outlook of many on this site, but I'm still giving RichRod the benefit of the doubt.

Lloyd's recruits were the ones with highest GPA? Lloyd, whom I believe is an awesome coach and man, had 10 prior years to have the best GPA.

Did he all of a sudden recruit smarter kids his last few years? Were the kids in Henne, Brady, Braylon's... classes dumber than the kids in 2006+?

The logical conclusion is 1) It's a fluke and just randomly higher (after all it is 1 point of data); or 2) RR is doing something different that results in better grades +(more tutoring, more time in class, easier majors...)

This is all easy to research (for decent reporters).
