Has Hoke spoken to any of the 2011 commits?

Submitted by J. Lichty on

Why was Hoke waiting until this weekend to contact our commits, not to mention prospects?

Per TomVH tweet, Hoke was apparently planning to call our commits this weekend.  Apparently Tabb tried to reach Singletary but could not reach him.

I am warming to the Hoke hire, but cripes, Brandon really tied a hand behind Hoke's recruiting back with waiting until last wednesday to hire him, but that doesnt mean that Hoke should double down on cementing the destruction by letting these recruits flap in the wind.

Shouldnt these commits - who have been waiting to hear from Hoke have been contacted immediately?

It is not Hoke's job to keep you in the fold. I can't remember a time when RR or his staff commented on a recruit (perhaps the ocassional F. Jackson comparison to some Michigan Legend). I don't want a coach who spends his time appeasing impatient unrealistic fans. Take a chill pill already. You are acting like a scorned date that didn't get the gratuitous phone call the day after.

There are only so many hours in a day, and I'm sure he's getting to everything as soon as possible. Hopefully he can get the recruits as excited about Michigan as he is.

......my daughter is on the tall side for 4 years old, and is pretty physically and mentally tough for her age. I am thinking DT maybe, but  I have yet to field a call from Hoke. My son is 3 and pretty darn fast - I see it every day when we runs away from the messes he creates. Definitely wide receiver material. Come on, Hoke et alia, I have two players right here watching Nick Jr.

I thought I read somewhere that priority #1 was talking to all current players and keeping transfers to a minimum (or zero!).  Next steps were to assemble a staff and call/visit recruits.  I also thought the "dead period" only meant no in-home visits, but phone calls (maybe max of 1 per day?) per recruit was still legit.  I'm sure he multi-tasked, but overall it sounds like it was current players first followed by recruiting.

I'm with you.  Hoke's first priority needed to be 'recruiting' all his current players to stay.  By making the current players priority number one over bringing in 'his players' also sends a strong message to the current players that they come first.

I'd be surprised if he also hasn't made contact with all the current commits by now.

The priority list should be:

1. Current Players

2. Staff

3. Recruits

and thats how he has gone about it.  Staff and Current Players get co-mingled over the first weeks but recruits/commits are a distant third.  How can he recruit when he doesn't know what he has to begin with on his team, let alone looking at the player's backgrounds to see if he wants to honor their scholarship offers?

You have to be patient and accept that things don't happen in an instant

not really sure, ND fans have all been talking about recruiting the past few weeks with all that has been going on.

Most people I talk to like hoke and think he was a good hire but no one is really all that concerned with UM football.  There is one small exception, Coach elston, ND's dline coach has strong UM ties, and there were rumors of him going to UM in the same capacity but that appears to have been pretty baseless since then.

I think most ND fans will take a look at UM after NSD and see what hoke has put together.  I wouldn't expect them to be overly scared of week 2 this year, not that they were last year either.

Is that Brandon and Hoke are going to completely sabotage everything Rodriguez did and come out with their own version of "Deciemated Defense" Cupboard was Bare" and"Every Coach Needs Four Years" arguments to justify themselves. OH, and don't forget, they will say things like, "We are Michigan Men and we only talk about players who play for Michigan"

It starts with this recruiting class. it's all part of The Plan.

OR, maybe, just maybe, Hoke has experience with this sort of thing and knows what he's doing. But just in case, I'm going to email him at [email protected]  to let him know he can read all the blogs to relearn how to recruit and coach.
