the just released schedules were a flat-out statement that the B10 doesn't believe SOS will matter in playoff selection
Has Brandon already decided?
So how is the D front going to get better next year? I see a few recruits there but more help is needed. Any young kids coming in could play but are still a few years away from where they need to be physically. Just not seeing how the D will make the jump he needs to makes in 2011. Please surprise me and stop pounding on the ground we take. Go Blue !!!
Go Blue !!!
Dave Brandon: Detailed and thorough investigation proves that Freep report was intentionally misleading.
He's doing his due diligence, getting input, making calls, hanging around the sidelines, etc. I'm not so sure he's decided how extensive the change is going to be and what position UM's in. He's a sharp dude and I'm sure will make the right calls.
be fired? Based on his track record in recruiting, it would be a blessing if the recruits backed off their commitments.
But for Pat White, RR and his group would be coaching somewhere in AA-1 school. Michigan has been had and the Big Ten coaching fraternity is hoping and praying that DB retains him as coach.
Think about if DR is able to stay health. Next year he will be facing defensive scheme that have faced him before and they will reduce his effectiveness.
What wins in the BIg Ten and other elite conferences is size, speed and excellent defense. RR's model is speed, quickness and undersized player makers. He knows nothing about defense.
We are in deep trouble.
football has gone through endless permutations over a century-and-a-half, and some people want us stuck in amber, playing the way Walsh's Stanford teams did in the late 80s. It's not even logical; with a good D we have won all our games, and with the spread. The same people making such arguments fail to recognize how many offensive changes Bo himself went through, or the O under Mo and Lloyd.
" It's not even logical; with a good D we have won all our games, and with the spread."
logic - we don't have a good D and we haven't won many games. like evolution, only quality permutations should be retained.
the spread is not the problem here. And a good D can be put together. So people complaining about RichRod because he runs a spread o are not logical. Period.
"And a good D can be put together."
It's been 3 years, what's the hold up?
He's building drama and has yet to get a suitable applicant to his Craigslist post for "Scapegoat".
it's very difficult to put together two great units in such a short time period. For as young and ill-equipped, skill-set wise, as the offense was, he's put together a damn good one w/o the special effects of a speed back, like Hart and Hayes. The proble was two-fold, however, because on the high side he inherited 24 defensive players, barely enough for a two deep. By some counts, he only inherited 21 with a DL, great blitzing backer and cb on the way out.
You do the math and you'll probably come to a different conclusion and understand he had to spend a lot of time and recruits in repleneshing our offense, but all signs indicate the past two seasons, he's done the same with the defense.
I don't think Mr. Brandon has made a decision yet. I honestly think - from a business standpoint- that he is honestly looking at Long-Term and Short-Term goals for the 'business'. Brandon =/= Martin. Brandon also played for UM and I'm SURE he wants to see this program become elite and mesh together the Success Carr had with the National Success WVU saw under RR. I bet Brandon waits on his COMPLETE Decision until a) the regular season is over, b) can evaluate this team over the RR era- Records, Students-Athletes, Problems, NCAA investigation, etc.
In my honest opinion and gut feeling... Brandon will meet with multiple potential replacements such as Harbaugh, Miles, and other candidates... and try and gather what they think about Michigan's Program and if they are PASSIONATE about it. I also think in the Post-Interviews with the Coaches of the Current team he will weed people out IF he decides to KEEP Rod.
Keeping Rod probably puts us around 8-10 wins next year and possible stepping stones to be a Big Ten Power. Firing Rod probably puts us around 6-9 wins with coaching change and attrition, new system?, but which will be better LONG TERM? What is going to Make Michigan... MICHIGAN again? Where "The Game" becomes relevant. Ohio State has a GREAT leader in Tressel; as much as we all HATE them, respect that he has built a SOLID program there, and has cheated less than previous OSU coaches. Has [some] class and does what good coaches do and build a team around the athletes he has.
I have put my Trust in Brandon, and I believe he will do what is right for the program in the Long-Term aspect. If he decides to Keep Rich, then I am going to stay a Rich Rod Supporter. Unlike Martin, I believe Brandon will make the University profitable, as well as being well recognized as THE university of Michigan, again. He may want that kind of a coach in Harbaugh that will TELL it LIKE IT is... won't sacrifice Image for a "W". I personally like that he called out the University, before it got out of hand... UM Athletes HAVE been given an easier road if they want it....
I feel that Coach Rodriguez is currently safe but that can change. A blowout loss to Ohio State and an embarrassment in the bowl game may seal his fate.
Prior to the Champs Sports Bowl in 2004, Syracuse coach Paul Pasqualoni was safe for returning the next year until SU was embarrassed on national TV and the decision was basically made on the sideline after the game.
The most important thing about Michigan football is beating those rat bastards in Columbus. If he gets blown out again, I can't see how you can bring him back.
Syracuse '03, Michigan G'05
Space bitches, space.
The young man wanted to come to Michigan from day one. He opted for ND because he wasn't certain RR would still be here upon his arrival. Does his change of heart indicate he knows something the rest of us don't? There's no guarantee to the answer to that question, however...........................
Brandon has to keep him. Even if Harbaugh is a Michigan man, I will not have 3 more years of rebuilding. I can't take it.
Charles Woodson, down the sideline, he's gonna go all the way, TOUCHDOWN MICHIGAN!!!!!

Top 30 defense? I think I just threw up a little in my mouth. With Wisc running the ball on every play, we just got WORSE on D. We are now #112 nationally! Our D won't get better just because the players are older. While they're all working as hard as they possibly can, some just were never cut out to get significant minutes at Michigan. Time will not heal this wound.
